I have never removed the starter and it was never a problem.

Just found your channel, great stuff. I watched the second video first. Like how you show how to get the engine out without the really expensive lifts people have.

Another thing that can be done with Type 1Beetle battery under the seat ... is to purchase a marine polymer battery box and place it where the battery sits. Then put some pieces of wood at the bottom of the box. This gets the battery off the bottom of the box. Next, put the battery in the box on top of the wood, reconnect the terminals and snap the lid on the box. This prevents the battery from getting shorted out on the springs under the back seat. It also keeps battery leakage from rusting out the floorboard which is what normally happens over time.

You forgot to disconnect the axles!

You don’t need to disconnect the axles. The transaxle stays in the car and only the engine comes out the back.

I like Your video, tripod is good to hold the camera, while You work on the engine, so we see all removing technology. I have to do removal also on my 1973 VW.

A 17mm flat ratchet for the top bolts, a 17mm flex socket for the bottom bolts, sometimes for the upper starter bolt with a long extension. leave the starter in place. Better to place jack stands under the torsion bars, jacking points are often sketchy. eye protection to keep stuff from falling into your eyes. The cv boot clamps are sketchy

I thought you only had to un-wire the starter. You actually have to remove it?

Is that an X-crossed intake manifold there ?
@shannonwittman950
@shannonwittman950 5 лет назад
I've heard of what you're talking about ... but on this setup, it looks like the two intakes converge to create one large opened chamber ... and then the engine banks draw equally from that chamber? I imagine both separate and converged arrangements are available.
