How to remove and replace a hard drive in a Elitebook 840 G3

I'm getting a used laptop, but still my first ever laptop, from work i've used for 4 years remotely from home, get to keep it.all i have to do is remove the hard drive to gove back, keep the rest, buy a replacement ddkve, borrow an external cd room to install my OS, and i have my very first personal laptop. Please I opened the back of my laptop and found out that there wasnt any hard drive in it and i have been using it for about a year now and I only opened to check because I encountered the blue screen of death recently and i'm surprised cause why has my system been working without a hard drive ever since? Please I need help

Sounds crazy....but because my G3 had an intermittent fault....I bought a similar machine and decided to remove the hard drive from the original machine and put it in a caddy tpo save all the documents etc as a spare drive. I removed all the screws and battery.....but where you show the hard drive....NOTHING!!! So I put the battery and cover back on....and plugged it it....still working and shows a 256gb drive. HOW???? Is their a 2ndary concealed drive that I've missed???
