Nice video. One tip about fitting the new bearing, if it is too tight to tap in easily. You could stick the new bearing in the freezer for an hour or so and it will most likely slide right in.

Thanks for the video. Just want to mention: when installing the new pully bearing, add some locktite to the outer surface of the new bearing before installing it into the pully. Also, if you take notice of the small tabs that help lock the old bearing in place, make sure to redent the tabs after the new bearing is installed. This way the pully wont walk off the new bearing. This happened to me after I installed a new pully bearing. Just wanted to make mention. Thanks..

I started to get an intermittent noise on my 2006 tundra compressor. Thanks to your video, I will be tackling it tomorrow. There are too many guys who have videos where they say, "_____ has to be removed." The next thing you see is the part removed. They do the same with re-assembly. I already know what has to be removed. I need to see how to do it. Thanks for the step-by-step detail.

Great job! I did a vid of this repair in a dodge ram -- very similar difficult points. The hardest for me was finding parts. One thing people should know is that the splines on the pulley may not be symmetrical, so there is only one way for the pulley to go on in some vehicles.

First I want to say the video you made or replacing the upper and lower intake manifolds on the Monte Carlo was great. I followed your steps and I've replaced my upper and lower intake manifold on my 2000 MC SS with ease. It now runs very quiet. Now I am hearing a knocking sound when my AC is turned on. After watching this video I feel I can make the replacement with ease. As long as the steps remain the same as described on this ford.

To clarify this video. Your problem was a bad clutch not a bearing. I agree it was worthwhile to replade the bearing anyway. My truck makes noise when I turn the AC on, and no noise when it off. Yours is just the opposite because the clutch rubbed. So, is it reasonable to deduce that a noise with the AC on would be the bearing (because of the load)?
@bbushong67
@bbushong67 Год назад
It's worthwhile to replace the entire set, to include the pulley with bearing and clutch. Both the pulley and clutch faces were worn beyond repair and should have been replaced.

Thanks My ranger is having some issues and this video helps quite a bit. I took the pulley off and the bearing in it was toast. The inner race and balls fell out. The outer race wouldn't press out like yours because on the back side there were some little tabs that prevent the bearing from being pressed out. I could have ground them off and pressed it out, but decided to go for a new pulley

Hi Shane, wondering if after replacing yours if the sound went away. I just spent the last 3 wks dealing with the compressor issues on my 09 ranger. Ive already reinstalled a new clutch coil, new pully, and and new clutch but still have a slight grinding noise like the pulley is scraping against the plastic electrical connector on the clutch coil. Does your spin totally free?

+RatchetsAnd Wrenches No need to change the condensor as you can easily flush out the system as if the compressor is locked up, it would have black oil in the system in which you would have to flush out the system. No need to replace anything but the compressor and drier

OH MY GOD THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS VIDEO!!!! Mine started to knock and my clutch is catching, but the whole AC compressor assembly is like $200. At least now I can test these two first to see if that is the issue. I replaced my tensioner assembly and fuel pump a few months back, its a pain to CONSTANTLY be under my hood over my whole serpentine assembly, but now I can check all of my pulley's to make sure they're good! Could the hammer+socket work for a wheel bearing as well?

@bbushong67
@bbushong67 Год назад
There are different designs that all work the same. One more reason to replace the clutch and pulley together. The ones in that video were worn way beyond serviceable limits. Not the best idea to stick a used clutch on a used pulley. They should be replaced as a set.
@danc1197
@danc1197 7 лет назад
If you're hearing pulley noise and you can't tell which one put a stethascope on and put the diaphragm on each belt driven part. The part making the noise will be magnified through the stethascope. The other parts will not be very loud with scope on. Process of elimination. Also you mentioned the ac compressor only engages when you turn ac on. A lot of modern vehicles use ac compressor for the window defroster as well. Because compressed air clears the windows faster.

Better yet, toss that slap worn out pulley and clutch plate and just put new parts in. Way easier, and both of those parts were terribly worn beyond service limits. If the bearing is worn bad enough to need replacement, the face of the pulley is probably also shot like the one in the video.

You know what's the same size as the new bearing and doesn't matter if you hammer on it? The old bearing. Also, spinning the pulley has no effect while removing it from the compressor as you need to remove the center race (fixed), not the outer race (spins). You need to work it from different angles whenever possible. thanks for the video though

Thank you for sharing all your knowledge with us. I Have a 2001 Seat Leon and the AC is not working at all. When it received a refrigerant gas charge, it was working fine for about 10 minutes and then it just stopped working, So we have removed the gas to check for any obstructions on the AC line and put in new gas. It worked for about 15 minutes and stopped working just like the first time. The AC clutch makes a noise just like the one in this video, So I removed the clutch and it definitely looks like it needs a replacement, however, I wanted to be sure it's just a clutch problem, so I used a rubber ring to lock the clutch together and make sure the compressor was spinning, but still the AC is not working. Any ideas on what to try next? maybe a bad compressor? thank you in advance!

Hi, if the clutch is locked up, how would I know if I need to replace the clutch or the compressor? Or both... I can't rotate the clutch (car off, ac off), pressure was too high in the low side and don't know if it messed up the compressor. On good system, if the ac is off, can you rotate the clutch by hand? It's fixed to the shaft of the compressor like you mentioned. Btw, great video and thanks for explaining how the clutch itself works, I found it really valuable.
