I have to replace the spindles on a 42" MTD I bought in 1993. It is still going strong. I have the deck off and I wanted to check signals on what might go wrong. This is a great video and just what I was looking for. Thanks !
Excellent video. I have an older Lowes MTD 16 HP 42" Lawn Tractor and was having a heck of time finding a video for these type of spindles. Excellent! Now I think I can order the spindles!
Great video and thanks for the part numbers. I have a old MTD 12/38 with a bad bearing. I removed the spindles but the pulleys and blade adapters are rusted on pretty good. Now I know they should come off pretty easy. Got them soaking in some WD40 and with a little heat hopefully they should come off.
+oneandzero Thanks, your welcome! I hear ya. I never did get the adapters off the ones on the video, they are stuck! It might pop off, a press would be nice for that. Thanks for Watching!!!
Where are you getting these parts? I can’t find them on Amazon. I have an older MTD mower & the deck spindle pully and blade adapter are frozen onto the shaft and I can’t get them off, I even tried using heat & a wheel puller. Nothing is working. My mower model # is unreadable so I can’t order parts by model #. Can anyone help PLEASE!! It’s an old signature elite 42” deck. I think it was a Montgomery wards mower back in the day. Since my mower deck looks extremely similar to the one your working on in this video, can you please provide the model number so I can use it to order replacement parts for my mower deck? My mower model number is totally worn off/unreadable, so I don’t know how to get the right parts for my mower.
I love these old MTD mowers iv replaced with new complete spindles but they wear quick the new stuff is not as good as old stuff ..I'd rather replace the bearings with top quality ones to get a longer life span out of them
I own a 18hp/42" montgomery ward power kraft lawn tractor. There are no model numbers or ID on the tractor, so I dont know what spindle I need for the deck. How do I determine the correct model part number for the deck spindle assembly?
ajp0007 guessing I would say it's the same as mine in this vid but not for sure. There should be a small plate with the model / serial numbers either under the seat on top of the frame or on the back above the hitch but it may peeled off it should start with tmo. Hope this helps thanks for watching!!!
+Stephan Black It would be very hard to do, hard to get the pulleys off the top, and harder to get to all the bolts but can be done. Thanks for Watching!!!
Ok I pulled the deck off today and it is a 44 I found a sticker on it its a mtd 190-935-000/i278D says meets 1986 safety standards only numbers I found Thank you
No problem. I sent the info to tulsa engine warehouse and they asked me if its a 3 blade deck, is it? It didn't show a middle blade but both sides have different #'s, the left is 917-0909 and the right is 917-0910, I can NOT guarantee these are right, the 2nd one shows a picture here: tewarehouse.com/Genuine-MTD-Part_3885 But i have no idea if they are the right ones or not. Its hard to find anything out the actual mower's model #. Hope this helps!
I have a older mtd riding mower I just got from a friend and its a 11 horse 32" cut is what is on the mower but then the deck has a sticker on it that says 44 that's it and it's rusty so I can't see any other numbers on there and I want to replace the whole assemblies as well since it sat in his yard for years
I actually have a 11-32 MTD (ServiStar brand), but it doesn't have the deck (plan to use it as a mini tractor, for pulling a trailer, etc) I just checked the manual i have on it and for some reason (1st time i've seen this) it doesn't list a complete quill / spindle for it, just the individual parts. But i'd suggest measuring the deck itself, if its a 44 inch cut off something else, its going to be hard to find new ones for it without knowing what it came off. But if it is a 32", there should be a model # on the back of the mower near the hitch, or under the seat, if you can find that i should be able to do dig a little deeper and find something. Thanks for Watching!!!
Phillip Craig For the type shown in the video for older style 38 / 42 inch cuts (plus several others) its 748-0300 Your welcome! Thanks for Watching!!!
