Thanks for these 3 videos, they're excellent! One point I might add, access to the water pump pulley bolts is much better if you remove the entire engine mount. It's just 3 extra bolts which are quite easily accessible and it leaves much more room next to the water pump. Thanks again!
Thanks for making this video! I was able to replace the timing belt on my mom's outlander. I really appreciate that you gave the torque specs. Right on!
Awesome informative video, walked me completley through my first timing belt / water pump job. Thank you sir. A couple thing were way different though. motor mount, serpinting tensioner idler, and a few other. But thanks couldnt have done it with your video.
Do you a life saver.. I thought I would need special tools with air impact. I did the dumbest thing and took off the belt first without loosening the pulleys! So have to put that back on. The steps are simple and I have the right tools. Thanks a mill. New subscriber! 🫡
Thanks for the informative videos on this. Just did the timing belt and water pump on my Eclipse yesterday and it went smooth things to your videos. Appreciate it thanks
Thank You So much for this series of videos. It got me started on removing the head on my 2005 Outlander. My timing belt seems to have skipped approximately five teeth or more (the cam is advanced from the crank. seems like it should be opposite). When I removed the number 2 plug it looked like it had been hit with a hammer. I am taking the head off to see if only the valves were affected. In which case I will get a rebuilt head. If the pistons or cylinders are bad, I think I will try a used engine imported from Japan. Any chance you could make a video on removal and replacement of the head? Unfortunately I cant find a repair manual (Haynes or Chilton's) so these videos are a godsend. THANKS AGAIN
My bolt just Snapped on the Belt Tensioner on a 2006 Galant ): your video ( tho i have experiance on a 4g63 ) helped me with my doubts thanks! Now to get the broken bolt out.
Your videos helped me a lot. I have an 03 Outlander (4G64). There is a rubber plug that covers a hole in the wheel well to access the waterpump pulley bolts easy. I took the head off mine due to it being an interference motor. No signs of damage. Doing my own measurements, the valves do go into cylinder chamber, but pistons do not travel up far enough to make contact with the valves.
thank you so much is a great video and it came right on time for me to help my daughter's girlfriend. you explained it quite well. I hope to watch more of your videos in the future. again thank you so much. Jim
Wish I saw this earlier because I need to do the water pump and thought I needed to break the huge bolt off the flywheel to get the balancer and cover off. The other videos definitely not as well made as this
What if your timing belt is broke? I know when the cam is at TDC with the timing mark lined up on top Cylinder 1 & 2 intake valves and Cylinder 1 & 3 exhaust valves will be loose ..... correct? How do i make sure the crank is at TDC?
How critical is that oil pump being on time after replacing the water pump and all the belts, seals, sprockets and tensioner ? keeps going out of place after the initial perfect set up and after rotating the engine 4 times. it was also out of time when taking it all apart with the original marks all in place. Did I miss that oil shaft line up ? With timing belt off , bolt out of the block, I could not get the allan key in on the mark only off the mark no matter how many times I turned the sprocket to find the hole for the key to go in. Is that oil pump timing critical or will it work out of time ?
I hope you still read the comments to this older video but I'm currently trying to do a full timing belt, water pump, and head gasket change on an 08 Galant but when I get down to the crankshaft, it's out of sync with the tiny notch and the "T" line, whereas the camshaft is TDC. What do I do?
Can you remove the just the balancer and lower timing cover to get to the crankshaft position sensor, or do you have to do everything to get the bottom cover off
bro first off thank you you're guiding me through my eclipse timing belt.this motor has the same set up.i lined up the cam marks with tje top and i found that lil notch on the pulley but no matter how many times i turn it the lil notch on the bottom wont line up
You stated you could be 360 degrees off, I'm guessing you're talking about being on the exhaust stroke instead of compression stroke. So when your belt breaks or strips teeth, how do you know which stroke you're on to put your belt back on? I have this exact problem right now and can't locate the answer.
I did mine , replace the worn timing belt. The question is, It took six revolution to get all the marks line up. Is that affect the timing? And what to do?
Hello everyone, thanks to this video and all the supportive messages I feel like giving this wp replacement a go. I have an important question regarding this process, hope you can answer me! So, In case i just need to replace the water pump, do I also have to set tanget at top dead centre as this video shows from min 7:00? Or I can just loosen the 4 bolts and take the crankshaft pulley off? In order to reach the wp I need to take the timing belt lower cover off, and in order to do so, first need to take the crankshaft pulley off, right? Just need to know what steps do I need to skip if I want to replace just the wp. Thanks in advance!
Great detailed/verbal video. I don't think you could have explained it any better. I'll assume the 70 dislikes are from people that are completely helpless when it comes to turning a wrench..
I was on the part to line up the camshaft but when I turned it clockwise, it will stuck and I cant turn it anymore. I was able to line up the crankshaft. Can I go the other way to line up the camshaft?
Just to let some people know... This is NOT for the 3G Mitsubishi Eclipse (Spyder)V6 engine. I thought it was, started following the steps and many things in the video are different from the car I have (2003 Mitsubishi Spyder V6).
How do I tell if my timing belt is worn? I hate the idea of interference engines with timing belts. I look under the cover and the belt has no cracks and I can still see the writing. The belt is a Gates. Am I OK or is there no way to tell? Thanks!
Yes Mitsubishi has no room for manuver if you dont remove it - I know it is 4 years later to answer this but I am doing it now and want others to hav the answer :-)
michael dicarlo how is it not worth the effort to replace the timing belt and avoid breaking it and bending all of the valves? They need to be replaced around every 60k miles.
