I go around my object with the Pen tool and close the path, I go to "Make Selection" (Anti-aliased checked and new selection checked) hit OK, it places marching ants on both my object and around my background. I am not sure what I am doing wrong. Any ideas?

How did the background turned white at 2:42 by just hitting Ctrl+ALT+R (REFINE EDGE), I did exactly the same but the background didn't turn into white. I'm using Photoshop CC 2018 btw. You did a great job on this Tutorial! Kudos!
I have the select and mask option instead of redefine and its selecting the rest of the picture instead of the selected one..how to counter this thing?
When I used the brush to go back over and reincorporate some of the finer strands of hair that were cut out, it also brought back the rest of the original background...but your screen showed anything but the hair disappearing again...did I miss a step?
It's vary photo to photo.. If your background color completely match with the hair color. Then It will be really hard to cut out.. There are so many way to cut out background.. It's depends on the image characteristics.. In that case, use a hair brush instead regular brush
