Love your videos, well done sir! Nice camera shots and well explained. Just small one correction, at 5:15 that part is actually called the "Driveshaft Guibo" or "Driveshaft Flex Joint". You refer to it as the "Steering Guibo", which is a similar looking part, but is attached to steering column and also called the "lower flexible coupling". I hate to be a nit, but some of us are newbs and might order the wrong part.
Great job man, it is way simpler than I thought. Ive done a lot of work on my e46 m3 but never would have went this far without seeing how its done (Although I don't need to remove the rear subframe) Thanks
Flawless video my dude. The arm you called the camber arm is called the lower control arm, and it’s connected to the piece you took off bolted onto the chassis holding your hub, that’s the trailing arm. Just helping u out with the terms 💯
Love it man! This was really helpful. I stopped watching at around 7 because that was really good and helpful enough to figure out how to solve my issue. Love your stuff
Too bad you don't live in Germany :D I would always bring my car to you if something's wrong with it. But your Videos help a lot in understanding and how to do it by myself. Thanks a lot!
Honestly, most of my tools are from Harbor Freight, only my specialty tools aren't. I started out with their tools and have built a whole business and everything with their tools with no complaints. Maybe when im much older with tons of money and want to show off my tool collection I may buy a nice toolbox and tools to go along with it. For work, I don't see the point in wasting thousands of dollars on overpriced accessories.
This was really cool to watch. Just curious, practically speaking, why would one remove the entire rear suspension? Is it easier to do a total overhaul this way rather than remove individual parts?
Thanks Steven! It is much easier to overhaul all of the subframe bushings and diff bushings with the entire rear end removed and also a good time to reinforce the subframe mounting points
Hey shoplife tv, love the videos, without your vids I wouldn't be able to fix my car which I'm very grateful for thank you so much. I recently got in a car accident( nothing that major) and I was hit on my left rear side so I have to replace the left rear spindle/knuck, I was wondering if you can post a vid on how to replace the spindle/knuck, thank you in advance
I need to replace my Rear Trailing Arm Bushings on my E46 M3. Do you have any (or planning to make) any videos on that? They seem to only last around ~60k miles and my car's got 68k miles on it. I also need to replace the AC Belt and drivers side window regulator. Even though I just bought this car and I have to replace all that stuff on top of the fluids, I'm absolutely loving it. I saw your S54 swap, that thing is freaking awesome! You're channel has helped me learn about the E46 chassis faster than the forums have.
If you're having handling issues like bumpsteer and your rear tires are wearing faster than they should, replace your RTABs. Same thing happened to me and I replaced them with polyurethane bushings. The process is simple but to make your life easier, borrow a BMW RTAB/FCAB puller from someone (I borrowed mine from someone local on M3forum). Here's a DIY: forum.e46fanatics.com/showthread.php?t=678004
Great Videos, they have helped a lot. Do you think you will be doing any brake disc and pads videos along with the handbrake shoes? maybe bleeding the system?
I have a complete brake overhaul video coming soon, includes removing the calipers (cleaning and painting them) and pretty much everything else. Thanks for watching!
I recently drop my subframe on my 330xi and I had to cut the ebrake cables off to get the subframe to drop. I did remove the two ten millimeter bolts but it just didn't want to come down. Anything I missed?
+Miguel Lara You might have some of the oem undercoating on the part where the cables go into the cabin which is what was holding them up. Usually a good tug or some cutting with an xacto knife helps it come free.
Is it easy to swap all the parts to a new subframe ? Mines rusted out but found a better one for 50 bucks was going to reinforce my subframe mounts and get new bushings wonder if swapping a subframe would be easy or not
this is encouraging no, I don't have any tools at this time so I got to have a shop do it. but it doesn't look like the job that I imagine the dealership who quoted me $5,000 to do the job which I think is bullshit I've got a BMW shop on it take it too and it's a hell of a lot cheaper than the dealership specially when the rate is only the same or similar rate to a body shop was about 75 bucks. Per hour
Great vid manOver the winter I did my subframe chassis reinforcement on 2000 BMW 323i manual. One mount had already gone thru. But I did manage to fix it. This vid came in handy. But my question is would a 330 diff fit in my 323i?. I can't find LSD for mine only for 330 diffs so I wanted to do the swap.
+Paul Palacios Thanks man, and the 330 diff should fit, not sure if their are differences in the flanges where the driveshaft mates to the diff though. If you can send me a pic of your diff flange and driveshaft and I can try to match them with a 330 diff I have.
Could you confirm me that the left and right spring arms are different into the subframe attaching point?one is bended different from the other slightly.
HI, I have a BMW 325i 92 its been wrecked on the passenger side and it broke the trailing arm, I would like to know if i can just change the trailing arm or i have to change the whole suspension due to aliment.
Heyy bro going to take subframe out very soon due to clunking through the gears would you recommend replacing with polyurethane bushings or bmw rubber bushings? Thanks your blogs are hectic
+Eacey Ivey Will be making a video on this. They usually develop cracks at the mounting points for the rear subframe causing clunks and eventually the entire rear floor tearing out.
Im hearing a clunk from the back when i shift from 1 to 2 and sometimes 2 to 3 so i think my subframe and diff bushings need to be replaced havent had a chance to look but im pretty sure. This video makes the frame removal easy. Did you change the bushings also?
+just Faisal Most likely your differential bushings, I was in a rush to get the car back together as I wanted to drive it to California, so I did not change the bushings. I have all of the bushings and plan on making a tutorial on that as well in the upcoming weeks. And I go to NCSU, residing in Raleigh!
+ShopLife that would help, i also ordered the diff bushings so I'm gonna change them as soon as i get some free time. i don't think I'm gonna take the subframe out cuz its my daily and i can't have it sitting around for more than a day... I'm not sure what tool to use to press the old bushings out.
Holy shit bro you know more shit about these then me wow congrats how did you learn how to fuck with BMW ? I just pickup e46 for daily Iam trying to walk away from Honda game "
Da Krush don’t give me wrong bro h22 with ITb sounds nice n gas prices feels rite lol like I had before but driving bmw in rwd setup feels amazing .. just need to learn the in n out of them ..
+ShopLifeTV Thanks man, I have problem in my e46318i. When i changing a gear from 1-2-3 and sometimes on 4 gear I heard loud deap sunf when I change gaer. the soun is from rear axe. I thing its a rubbers from rear diff ( one big at rear adn two smaller on front) What do u think? Sorry 4 my english grammar.
