Liked and subscribed! Is it safe to use CRC QD Electronic cleaner on the contact points?
@TotalTechnik
@TotalTechnik 4 года назад
Hey there! It's generally ok to use contact cleaner on the electrical contact points. However, it's often wise to disconnect the battery feed first (depending on what you're doing), and although contact cleaner does evaporate, it does not evaporate as quickly as things like brake cleaner (seconds) especially when it gets down into grooves and cracks etc, so you may want to allow decent time to ensure that is is all properly dried out before reconnecting. --- To help support us (for both you and others reading this) there are a few things you can do: 1) Donations both needed and welcome! What causes the bubbling just above the coil covers? Mine is more serious than yours, is it a problem?
@TotalTechnik
@TotalTechnik 3 года назад
Aluminium often forms bubbles like those, oxidation rather than rust but same principal. It should not present an issue from a mechanical perspective, just cosmetic. --- To help support us (for both you and others reading this) there are a few things you can do: 1) Donations both needed and welcome! @@TotalTechnik I thought perhaps it could have been affected by the oil levels or viscosity not distributing the heat effectively enough... I have corrosive "pimples" underneath the silver cover, in a line formation away from one of the ignition coils.

Why do people always try to release these connectors like this? This is the wrong way to release these!! No tools required for any VAG connectors! You simply have to push the connector in more while pulling the tab back with your thumb. The seal is what provides the locking tension for the release tab. By pushing the connector into the component you release the tension and the tab flips up. No screwdrivers or picks required. So f in simple but you still see broken release tabs and pick marks because of people trying to use tools to release these connectors. I’ve never used a tool!

I have a 2006 Audi A4 quattro and it won't go over 60 miles and it smokes if it goes over. The check engine light is on. What's the problem?
@TotalTechnik

That could be a number of things. Ideally you should get a diagnostic scan done, and that should hopefully point you in the right direction to track down the fault. How often should the valve clearances be checked on the BBK engines? About to do a service, inc rocker cover gaskets and wondered about doing the clearances at the same time. Thanks.
@TotalTechnik
@TotalTechnik 4 года назад
Well there would be no harm in checking them, especially if you already have the rocker covers off! @@TotalTechnik do you mean a general condition check? If it has hydraulic valve lifters is there any clearance to check, I thought lifters meant they were self adjusting? Happy to donate for quality advice and useful vids.
@TotalTechnik
@TotalTechnik 4 года назад
@@andrewmcpartlin2655 Hey Andrew. Apologies I should have read your message more carefully! It depends on the model, but you asked specifically for the BBK (which I missed) - which has hydraulic lifters. No adjustment required for hydraulic lifters, as you mentioned - self adjusting on the S4 (BBK).
@andrewmcpartlin2655
@andrewmcpartlin2655 4 года назад
@@TotalTechnik no worries, the engine is in the B6 S4 2003 avant, so the ticking noise I'm getting could just be gunky oil deposits? The oil level is fine and I follow the 15sec rule (as per your video).
@TotalTechnik
@TotalTechnik 4 года назад
@@andrewmcpartlin2655 If the noise is very apparent you could do an oil flush to try and get everything as clean as possible. Most S4's do tend to be a little tappety on the top end due to hydraulic lifters, but should not be excessively noisy. Also, a tappety rattling can sometimes actually be the intake manifold flap knocking so that can be worth inspecting as well as that is often confused with lifter noise. Best of luck!
