Some scammer makes a BS copyright claim by downloading from the RU-vid audio library the same track as you and adds their bit like singing, rapping etc. You use that same music from the library and they know it is free, but RU-vid's copyright matching system says you used their content - they know you did NOT infringe on them in any way, but they STILL claim against you to fraudulently receive any potential income from your hard work and RU-vid refers to them as the copyright owner - really boils my you know what.

Why is it that a company can strike your channel without any proof? Not claim, but strike. My content is original, fair use, but does use video game assets. I have hundreds of videos like this, but one day....a video game company just decided to strike my videos. No warning, no request for removal....just Strikes. We emailed back and forth and they ended up removing the strikes. But they had zero grounds for the strikes in the first place. YT did nothing to stop them

I hope one day RU-vid lets us literally straight up replace the whole audio in a video. For example, think reediting the audio in your video in Premiere, then exporting it as an MP3 and uploading it, and RU-vid re-muxes the video with the new audio. :( Though I suppose bad actors would abuse such a feature somehow and ruin it for everyone.

I deal with unintentional music playing in pretty much every video I film since I cover car shows. I've heard I can dispute it, but it takes thirty days. I have learned to keep the clips short even though it takes much longer to film and edit. When I get a copyright notice while uploading a video I just go back an re-edit and re-upload. I'm going to try the song removal feature next time I get copyrighted, but I'm worried it will take too long to process since most of my videos are over an hour long. Wish RU-vid had a button to check when uploading that any music in the video is unintentional since it should fall under fair use since I'm covering a newsworthy event and didn't add the music myself. I have also tried using AI music tracks I made to cover up copyrighted music, but it looks like the record companies are coming after that next.

We have exactly the same question. We film carnivals, parades, street parties. It is impossible to publish a meaningful video of the event without including the original audio which we have no control over. We are recording events officially recognised as being of international touristic importance. This is cleary a case of fair use but some videos have ten or more copyright claims on them. We are eligible to monitize the channel but have refrained form doing so at the moment. How should we proceed?

well said: "it´s not perfect at all" ... From the view of a content creator: I fully produce my own material (reviews, diy-stuff, darts tipps) and found a channel, that uses parts of my content out of context and totally wrong messages. I couldn´t contact the other channel, because there was no mail, no adress and he deleted my comment directly and banned me of his channel. So i tried to claim my content and RU-vid not only gave the other channel my name and channelname, so that he knew it was me. RU-vid simply said "this is fair use" and gave ME a warning, that they will strike my channel if I go on with claims they decide for the other party. That said: since then the other channel insults me personally and pretty regularly for more than 12 months now and still uses my content as he wants to.

A lot of the time that is not enough. For instance I had written permission to use someone photographs in an explanation video. However the video was still strciked by someone with multiple different names and was using one of my university friends images. he (assumingly) was placing a claim on the beauty of the photograph creator who me and the photograph creator had no idea who they were nor wanted the claim. The Copyright algorithm is great but it is also open to mass abuse. Even with evidence to counter the the fake copyright strikers claim and with RU-vid on Twitter getting involved. it was not enough for a computer to decide (literally no one on the copyright at RU-vid looked at the evidence). I had to then re upload the video with the identity of the Photographs blued something that the photograph creator was as she wanted her story told without censorship.

@ArtemisGamingChannel

I'm having a similar problem with Clipchamp. I think it is mishandling of someone's copyright by third party websites that the apps are using. In the end, I stopped using music from editing apps because I don't trust that they've asked permission from the musicians or recording companies themselves but took a shortcut to third parties. That is my best guess when looking into it.

One extra piece of advice I would have liked to know before: **Save a copy of everything you receive and send** because AFAIK there is no way to check your history of claims/appeals. I have a video using a public domain version of classical music and it's getting claimed again and again. One of the times it got to an appeal and I was ready to get the strike and go to court because I was pissed off. The first time I had to dispute a claim the proof I sent was great but was lost once I sent it. You don't receive a copy in your email nor can check it afterwards. The time I had to dispute the appeal I ended up finding a video of the recording session of the piece and references of the license owner stating it was public domain. Now that text and links are stored in my docs so I can reuse it whenever it's claimed again.

@GranCanariaUncovered Месяц назад
We film carnivals, festivals and parades, nightlife etc. We live in major tourist destination with over 5 million visitors per year. The street parades can have for example 100 floats with huge sound systems. Many of these events are officially recognised as events of international touristic importance. The people at the event which we are filming are reacting to the music, but we have no control over the music being played. Likewise it is not possible to publish a meaningful video of the event without the background sound because the audience are dancing to it, singing along etc. Having read all the 'best practice' guidelines that even RU-vid direct us towards, our channel comes under the category of journalism. Fair use says that the sound recorded during the events is incidental and accidental as we have no control over it, nor are we directing or requesting the DJs play any particular song. The topic and reason of our videos is to promote the actual event we are recording. We haven't monitized the channel yet though we are eligible to do so. Many of our videos have copyright claims that say they have no effect on the channel. In some cases there may be 10 or more claims on one video. If we find we can't monitize a video and want to be paid for the hard work we put in to making it (three camera operators working on most of them) then do we have to dispute every single claim on a video individually or can we just claim fair use on the video overall due to journalistic exemption?
@GranCanariaUncovered
@GranCanariaUncovered Месяц назад
Nice to see some likes, but where to find advice how to make sure we are paid by RU-vid for our videos? After all we are the ones doing the hard work here and RU-vid run ads on our original content so I assume they are getting paid.

As someone who has faced both ends of the copyright/strike section I find it incredibly infuriating. When some one reuses large chunks of your original video and you cannot take money from it but only strike them (something that IMO limits free speech). Also the one occasional I was illegally striked by someone with multiple names using an image of one of my university friends supposedly someone else (how on earth is that allowed). Even when the image creator had not only given me permission to use the images but also claimed that the copyright striker was nothing to do with them and actively tried working with me to counter the strike. RU-vid atm are probably the best at representing copyright holder and protecting their rights (which is a must). However it also does not mean the system is perfect. The whole system is open to abuse, and they are countless examples including MR Beast where the system was abused . If I really wanted to I could create a bunch of random accounts and strike a number of Vid IQ channel of some one else and probably get away with it due to the lack of human moderation, and the fact I would have the final say (judge and jury). Im not a law expert and don't pretend to be. But What there needs is slight adaptation in policy. Checks and balances to make sure that only legal companies and relevant individuals can claim on breath of someone. When Escalation happens there needs to be human moderation something in my case would had easily solve the claimant as being a fraud, and finally for governments and authorities holding RU-vid to account to avoid the high profile cases like 'ObbyRaidz' and the 'fat rat' incidents.

For videos with over 100k views you can't even edit it to remove the copyright material. I have a joint account with my sister where we make fanvids/AMVs/crackvids and we got a copyright claim for a 17 second song clip that completely blocked one of our crackvids. The video had over 100k views so we couldn't do anything to remove that part and it had been up for over 5 years before they claimed and blocked our video. We contested the claim and they rejected it, but luckily they modified the terms so that it was only blocked in certain regions and now it's back up. RU-vid should at the very least allow editing to fix copyright issues regardless of the view count.

What frustrates me is when you download music from a Royalty Free website like pixabay and a 3rd party on behalf of the owner hits you with a copyright claim. I use a certain song on one of my youtube channels in the intro so I get a claim on every video I upload. If a song is on any Royalty Free website it should be intelligible for copyright claim at any time on RU-vid. I appreciate RU-vid working with creators to protect their original content and I applaud that. However, I think some adjustment still needs made and if any song is found to be on a Royalty Free site RU-vid needs to make it ineligible from copyright claim.

The one i get really frustrated with is I have paid for licenses to use clips of music and yet 2 or 3 different people will claim copyright on it even on RU-vids own music for creators and we are expected to remove it. If its not meant for content creators use then why have they added it to programs we pay for or why is RU-vid themselves allowing us to use the music when people are being copyrighted for it. It is incredibly frustrating for many people especially smaller channels and it appears to happen more the closer they are to monetization or if it is just after. It is almost like a spite attack by trolls. I've even had one where the person who made the original claim was not the person cited when I put in the appeal with the license information and it was STILL turned down.

Talking about copyright, how about videos or shorts, using AI to generate stories, images, scripts, etc. But I always mentioned it in my description for every video. And of course, I always use some of my own scripts. If a company likes you using their tools, it should be allowed because we are also promoting their tools. It's a win-win for both creators and the company. Maybe vidIQ can make a video about this or related if possible. Thanks. 🤔

I received my 1st copyright strike earlier today. There's a few things that i dont understand though. When i uploaded it, RU-vid didnt flag up any kind of issue. My copyright strike today was the result of the copyright owner requesting a takedown. Now, they took down 3 videos, but left 2 others on my channel (I have since removed them myself) Next, on doing a search on RU-vid, my videos that were removed and which ended with me receiving a copyright strike, the same programmes are plastered all over RU-vid. I just dont understand it 😢😢😢

How do the musicians who play their own instrument to songs like idk metallica or avenged sevenfold etc fall into the copyright arena? Is it considered edited or new content? I uploaded a couple vids with me playing guitar to songs and got a copyright notification so I guess it sounds pretty accurately note for note to get the notification and I am pleased with my guitar skills there, though it's not like I uploaded the original song, it's a cover, but I still get a notification which may affect my channel?

@akawilly
@akawilly Месяц назад
RU-vid Studio has a channel copyright tab that shows you when people have used your content. When attempting to copyright strike them, you must consider first if their video falls within the domain of "Fair Use". You can also use this feature to DM the offending party. You could ask for compensation for your work, or whatever you want to let them use your work.

My channel is 'Walk with Me.' I received a strike for using a photo of a person in a thumbnail, which I took myself. In the action options, I only had the option to delete the video and couldn’t even dispute the claim that I took the photo myself. I was forced to delete my best-performing video, and after this, my channel's impressions decreased. Is there really anything I can do?

I don't know why Studio's UI for this is so goofy. Why can you only see the details of a claim by mousing over things? It feels almost intentionally bad.
