I enjoyed the video very much. I glue baste and find it much faster for me. Not saying it's the same for everybody. Do what you feel works best for you and be nice to those who do something different from you.

I've been using glue to baste for several months now and I like it. The thought of stitch basting each corner of my hexagons overwhelms me! I guess I just like gluing things. 😊 I was happy to see how you handled the difficult-to-remove pieces. I've struggled with that and started using my Hera marker to work the fabric away from the paper. As a newbie, I think I was a little too generous with my glue. 😄 I just recently subscribed and am learning a lot from your videos. Thanks!

Wonderful! Yes, a Hera marker is a great tool for this. I've tried both stitch and glue basting and much prefer the glue, as well. So glad you're enjoying the videos! Thank you for subscribing!

I wonder if steam would help release some of the tougher glue areas, especially those using washable school glue? Something I’ll try next time. I also use a tool- the “purple thang” tool is great for opening up points that are glued to bury threads, and helping get between paper and fabric to break up the glue line or pop up the paper when I’m done.

Yes, steam would probably help! And it sounds like your tool is working nicely for all those uses. Thanks for sharing with us! :D

What sort of colours would you use, for varied materials , I use a light grey using gutterman thread. Put always happy to try any ? Better suggestions. Thanks for tips.

Great idea. I use a similar color - light tan/gray. You might also try a darker neutral for darker colors, like dark gray/brown.

Quick question, I’m sorry if you already said it and I missed it, but do you do anything after removing the shapes so they can be used more times? Am I supposed to iron them? Mine are soooo folded 😅
@MakerJayne
@MakerJayne 10 месяцев назад
Great question, @ashleyschifano4619. Yes, you could iron them with a dry iron to help straighten them out. :D

Does it help to spray a little water on the paper to pull the threads thru?
@MakerJayne
@MakerJayne 2 месяца назад
This project was glue-basted, so no pulling threads through.
@lilaalabed2527

@@MakerJayne I meant pulling the threads that accidentally got stitched through the cardstock templates.

Oh, okay. Yes, spraying water on the papers may help get those threads out of the paper easier. That's a great idea!

When im doing the hexies, im not looking for speedy ways, thats my slow stitching time. Glue belongs in my papercrafting supplies. I use only needle and thread to baste fabric around the paper. I dont even use.pins, i have wonder clips. Dollar stores also sell mini clips if you can't find the Wonder clips. I can pop the papers out once I've surrounded the pieces when piecing together. Gluing is an extra step i really don't need, let alone getting glued papers out. Oh, and then there is the detail that I can reuse the papers a couple times. 😏

Wonderful, @wendywilson1736! Those are all great reasons to thread baste. :D

You know what I only use glue for tacking the template in place. One dab on the back. Then I trim if need be and baste it on with needle and thread. Glue basting is not faster and it fails at the worst times and the paper falls out. Too frustrating. I find the sewing up more difficult as well when doing the actual piercing. No thank you. The papers op out easily once you remove the basting thread. No struggling. I think you are just trying to sell more glue. That's my opinion. It's fine for tacking, but for basting, it has earned an F grade in my book. I gave it a good run. On multiple projects. You fans of it, just keep on using it. Me I will spend my money on more fabric and my time saved on piecing it. I am unsubscribing.

Thank you for sharing your opinion but I don't sell glue. :)
