You need to be more clear that the modification is not for hiking purpose! Otherwise a lot of people will ruin their boots. If they come off and the boots hasn't had much use, that's a warranty issue. Drilling holes in a GTX lining is the worst thing one can do unless you have a specific reason for that( like the one in the clip). But for hiking you basically just gonna end up with wet feet. And eventually laces will cut through the fabric since there is no reinforcement.
