Wow, first time I've seen someone do this! This is a great temporary solution at least to get my hood looking presentable until I can work on a long term fix. Thank you so much!
Interesting way of cleaning up oxidation on an old vehicle with original paint. After the clear coat you'll have a very nice unique patina. Thanks for posting
Dude you are hitting on all eight cylinders well maybe four in the LUV But I’ve been looking for something that is a super mild abrasive that will cut through oxidation. This technique is a dead shot to the forehead!
It may take me 4 boxes of magic erasers to get all the oxidation off my car! I love magic erasers for house cleaning, never even thought about them for car.
My granddad still has his daily driver '72 Ford Courier he bought brand new off the lot, so I grew up loving small pickups. I actually might have an opportunity to buy a LUV, and am excited to follow your project.
Yup it works! Melamine (Magic Eraser) foam is 4000-5000 grit equivalent. Then you can take it two steps further and polish it out with medium cut foam pad on a dual action polisher and put a paint sealant on it, as an example. It would shock you as to how well it will turn out. But I'm a big fan of wet sanding and that is basically what you are doing. Good video!
Had to explain to my wife it only works for oxidation on the car... she wanted me to try it on the shower and tub... like that's going to work...hahahaa
hello sir, what are the chemicals used to remove oxidation and degration in faded plastics such as children's outdoor play equipment, so that the color can come back bright without being repainted.
Nice. Would throwing a clear coat spray on top of this cleaning make it last multiple car washes and intense sun exposer for over a year? Grinding off paint with a wool pad on my 93 camry that was repainted and wondering how to seal my final half ass work. No reply necessary
Should coat it with something UV resistant, so it should last! All car paints have the lacquer for the same reason. The magic erasers are actually melamine sponges.
Mike Stanek I recommend Deox C gel for rust removal/conversion, which is citric acid. There are a few similar products that are citric acid in a "gel" form.
Sandpaper did better getting rid of oxidation for me. I used 50 grit sandpaper and 80 too. But I did it by hand. I used a yellow foam pad and that didn't work for me it was a heavy cutting pad I used on my rotary polisher. I probably next time used 1200 grit sandpaper wet dry after I get a 7 inch hook and loop pad.
I thought he was going to show us how to remove oxidation from the car using pads and cutting liquid to remove the oxidation he didn't do any of that he just washed the car big deal.
