HOW TO REMOVE PORSCHE IGNITION DUMMY KEY

If for whatever reason you would like to remove the dummy key / knob thingy in Porsche ignitions with keyless entry and drive, here's a video that should help you out.
just make sure you leave the key fob outside the vehicle while doing this. once the car detects that there is no key inside the vehicle and you cycle the knob a couple times, you should hear a click and you will be able to just pull it out.
this is good to know if you are someone that just bought a custom knob online and want to replace it yourself, or you are trying to program new keys.

Thank you! My car dealer never mentioned this comes out. I thought it was stationary and I just needed the key fob in order to turn this ignition key 😅

Turn your old key plug to the far left and hold it that way for 30 seconds. You will hear a click that unlocks the mechanism and you can then remove it. In some cases, the actual remote control key must be outside the car and out of range on the vehicle.

My ‘17 911 doesn’t require cycling the ignition twice. With the remote outside of the car, simply turn the ignition on, then off…the click occurs, and I can remove the dummy.

No, the key fob doesn't fit in that slot. It only sends the signal to allow the dummy key to start the car. It works the same way as the push start button.

@@HanNguyen-vb3eo, wrong. You may have to fiddle with it the first time, but after that the real fob slides in and works just fine.

I just bought a 2013 GTS and the key fob sometimes didnt read and I was freaking out as I was almost stranded in Maine ,but it finally started ..changed both key fob batteries ..this AM it didnt read and was annoyed ,seen this video..took the dumby key out and at first thought the key wouldn't go in..but it did..it started up..

I'm gonna say probably not. Unless the car came with it and someone removed it. This was like a keyless ignition option that not all Porsches came with.

You'd really only need to remove it when programming a new key fob or if you wanted to replace the dummy key for one that was like a different color or something

My faux key looks just like the one in the video and I was able to remove it just like the video showed. I have a 2023 Macan GTS. Cool video.

Some people like to switch them out for different colors, and if you need to program a new key you have to remove it first

Plus, I live in fear that some knucklehead is gonna walk by, see the fake fob sticking out, assume I left the real key in the ignition, break the window, climb in and try to steal the car…
