In my experience the best way to fix snare ring is with gel pads and a roll of duct tape. The gel pads to dampen the snare and the duct tape to tape the drummer's mouth shut, so he cant whine about you messing with his sound. *grinzz*

Ring in that octave range could be very useful too, especially when it's in the key of the song like in here. It adds more sustain, which helps match the energy of distorted guitars.

alternatively, something like transify can take out the sustaining ring sound without leaving a hole in the drum. i try that first, and then if the overtone is still too strong, do some notching. all of which pre compression so it can be smoothed out down the line.

Fix it at the source or else you're just losing crucial mid-range info that'll be helpful on small speakers.

You don't remove the ring. You ADD ring !! Look the snare has had a dead, flat, bland sound since the 1920's. When you leave the muffler off, tighten the heads & hit with rim shot, you get an actual NOTE from your snare. Bruford knows this. Portnoy knows. Alex Van Halen knows. The sound becomes alive with an actual note. WAKE UP DRUMMERS. Why sound dead when a cool ring brings it to life. The era of the flat snare drum is over !!
