Rubbing alcohol works too in some cases by the way. I tried doing it on a couple of my figures, NECA GMK godzilla, NECA 1989 and some more and it worked quite well without removing any of the normal paint.
yeah, don't use acetone unless you intend to repaint the whole figure it will remove the finish on the plastic. Another method is a lighter fluid that works well and doesn't remove any finish. Like with anything that removes paint though be careful because it will remove everything.
Acetone based nail polish remover doesn't do shit to the painting, I have Banpresto Dragon Ball figures and I once brushed a little area of one of it with this product and it cleaned it well but didn't ruin the painting at all. Maybe pure acetone will damage it but regular nail polish remover with Acetone won't.
