Last resort method on How to remove a ceased up grinding disc nut and remove the jammed grinder disc. And get back at doing your indoor or outdoor projects.
Thanks, Stefan. I only cleaned the wheel flush with the securing plates/nuts allowing a pipe wrench the surface area to strongly clamp the piece. That worked for me.
Stefan, a few days later I did complete the task. A better way is instead using a screwdriver use an old hacksaw blade to remove the remaining bits from the shaft. Anyway it works like a charm.
I recently was having an issue with a hyper tough ( Walmart) 7 amp 12000 rpm angle grinder . The issue was similar to what the guy in this video did to get the cut off wheel locking nut off his grinder but the issue I was having with my grinder was I had the spanner tool to remove the cut off wheel but the cut off wheel locking nut that threads onto the tool to hold the cut off wheel in place tightly to prevent it from slinging off while using the tool was on so tight I couldn't get the center nut washer thing off the tool. Not sure about other angle grinders but the hyper tough angle grinder I have has a button at the top of the tool that your supposed to press in and it's supposed to lock the threaded thing in place that holds the locking washer on and for some reason and I'm not sure why but when I'd press the locking button in it'd lock into place but as soon as I'd put the spanner tool on to try and remove the locking washer I'd spin the spanner tool and as soon as I'd go to spin it the angle grinder the part that the locking washer threads on to that holds the cut off wheel on would just unlock itself like the button on the angle grinder would pop back outwards making it where it wasn't preventing the threaded part that holds the washer on is actually locked into place , so I ended up doing what the guy in this video did except I used an old hand saw ( hack saw ) and turned the angle grinder on and slid the blade of the hack saw in-between the two lock washers while the tool was running to grind down the peice of the cut off wheel that was stuck in between the two lock washers then once I had it fully ground down i sprayed some PB blaster on the threads of the grinder where the cut off wheel locks onto qnd let the PB blaster sit on there for about an hour and came back and used a set of locking vicecrips and locked them onto the bottom locking washer grabbed the spanner tool and flipped the angle grinder on the ground upside down and managed to get the locking button into place and put the spanner tool that came with the grinder onto the top locking washer on and spun it and the top locking washer came loose. Kind of a pain in the ass to have to do all that just to get the top lock washer off the angle grinder but I actually found this video to be helpful and I know he used a screwdriver while he ran the tool but I think the hack saw in-between both washers on the grinder was a better method to get it off I tried an old flat head screw driver and set it in-between both the washers while I ran the tool and it didn't seem to help . Just seemed to ruin an old unused shitty screwdriver I didn't care about which doesn't bother me I've got a shit ton of flat head screw drivers but I think what really helped get it to come loose was spraying that pb blaster on the threads and letting it soak on there for an hour really helped get the top lock washer off tbh . Thank God for good ol pb blaster lol!
I had this problem this morning, resolved it by using a thick peice of timber with two 10cm punches drilled into it so it sticks out about 1cm on top. First q20'ed the living daylights out of it, and just slight elbow grease and open. Really didn't want to sacrifice the blade that was in it as it was literally a brand new wood cutting blade. Plus i dont have another angle grinder
Just had the same problem, stuck disc nut. Before trying this method I threw some heat at it with the blow torch and it came off using the nut tool and a pipe for leverage.
I put a breaker bar on the key, just a piece of 3/4" rigid pipe. It made light work of it. And by "light work of it"I mean it broke the lock inside and the blade is still stuck 🫤
Wrong. Use a curved channel-lock-wrench to unscrew it. Press the button in, put the angle grinder on a surface the blade can 'grab' such as on carpet, and leverage your foot on the angle grinder, with the blade pushing into the carpet on the ground.. Lefty-Loosey-unscrew the nut with the Channel-lock-wrench with all your strength. It may be best to first spray on penetrating lubricant, then do the unscrew.
