This video demonstrates how to remove a crank position sensor on a Nissan Xterra. This video should also work for a Frontier. For these simple jobs the assembly is of course just opposite of the removal. This video should assist you if you are receiving the code P0335

Dude, you saved me yesterday. My '06 Xterra just stalled when in a drive thru line yesterday. After many tries, it started up while pushing it out of line. When back on the road, it had little power and the tach was bouncing erratically. I suspected the battery as I've had a few issues with it or fuel delivery (some O2 issues too), but after getting home I saw the P0335 code. I Immediately checked your channel for help. I replaced sensor same day and had it back in form in no time and only $40 . I just hit 200K miles and want to keep it running for a while longer. Thanks for the well done videos and time you put in them.

Got a 2006 Xterra, 160K and over the last couple of years the check engine light/vdc/slip lights would come on...first thoughts were rear diff fluids. After another couple of years the same issues recently with stalling/not starting/rough running... Did some checks and the code was for the crankshaft position sensor... Found this video along with others but this seemed to the point...$34 later and 1 hour work, it's back to the beast it was and if you have the right tools and small hands it is very easy, my hands are big and I spent more time trying to get in and out of the space than it did to do the work itself...Very good video. Ry you have saved me hours of grief and research on the Xterra. Mine shuts off randomly pulling out from a stop sign or cruising down the highway only when it is really hot outside and an almost CEL but never would stick! So I replaced the cam sensors and cleaned my MAF and throttle body- no luck. It shut off today at work and FINALLY threw a CEL. Crank sensor code!! I was so excited to finally catch a code lol! Thanks again to you and your great video I will be replacing that sensor tomorrow.

My bad, you are 5 correct. I screwed up because two of the 3 look the same and I installed them in reverse. Corrected it after it was still throwing the code. Let the dummies like me be aware that they should look for the o ring on the cam position sensor that the crank sensor doesn't have. I apologize for the incorrect statement. Fun fact: that fastener at 4:00 can be either a bolt or a screw, depending on how it's used. In this case it's a screw. If it were to fasten two unthreaded parts with a nut on the back then it would be a bolt.

I've watched many of your vids before and found them helpful for the 2007 Nissan Xterra SE I have had for about 8 years now. But I'm currently stuck beating my head against a wall. Drove it the other day no issues parked it, went to start up today to take kids to school and go to work turn key to on everything normal all dash lights come on as usual, turn the key to crank the engine over and nada other than hearing a click from the engine bay maybe a relay opening and closing. No clicking or nothing like engine is trying to turn over and battery is dead or low. Cleaned all battery terminal connections and checked tightness, nothing. Went ahead and replaced starter, checked all connections again and still same thing. I'm at a loss other than IPDM might have gone bad or its something else I can't figure out. Did the IPDM check thing and all went the same as video I watched horn, wipers etc. Swapped fog light relay with ECU relay to see if relay bad and no change. Have I missed something or did IPDM go belly up?

@@SabrinaHawk Sadly, mine ended up being a simple fix but caused frustration because it was something that I was simply overlooking. I wish I could say the most recent DIY had gone as smoothly as the first video when I changed out my valve timing sensor. This time around I had the crankshaft position sensor to replace. In short, I broke the bolt and then proceeded to break an extractor in said bolt. FML. This is after drilling a very well centered hole and just making the mistake of not drilling to the next size extractor as recommended. Yes. Here's my question. Is it possible to remove the transmission dip stick guide tube in situ? If I could get this out of my way in the right wheel well, I'd have a clear shot to hit it with the rotary grinder

I just replaced both camshaft sensors and the crank sensor and now the 2012 pathfinder won’t even start. Could someone please help me out? SOLVED: Super embarrassing guys but I began the process of elimination and began reinstalling both of the old sensors one by one starting with camshaft bank 2 (45° one, right side when facing engine) and no luck. Left the old one in bank 2 and reinstalled the old cam sensor bank one, and discovered my stupid mistake. I was tightening the bolt and it seemed to never tighten. I thought I was over tightening and checked and inadvertently pushed the cam sensor in fully and heard a pop-I hadn’t pushed in the camshaft sensors all the way. 😑😑😑😑 pushed both old sensors in all the way and hand tightens the nut. Went to start the car and voila! Car came to life and engine turned over. Reinstalled the new, Nissan OEM cam sensors on bank 1 and 2 and this time, made sure they were filled sealed, and the engine roared to life. Ended up taking the passenger wheel off and making sure the crank sensor was fully seated and it was. Noob mistake. Thank God I caught it.

I have a 2008 SE. I see no reason to remove the inside cover in the fender. I can pull back a little and slip my hand right in to get to the sensor. I can see the sensor from outside the vehicle without even removing the wheel although I will do that to get closer to plug and bolt. Has anyone tried this?

What did you end up doing about this? I may be in the same situation I did the cam sensors and she still threw the code so I just did the crank sensor but I’m scared it’s not gonna solve it

@@samuelway3914 Hey, did the crankshaft sensor help? I had some shaking and the code so I replaced my camshaft sensors, but the car would barely drive after replacing the sensor, and is still throwing the code as well.

@@acea1507 replaced both cam sensors AGAIN with OE parts. The crank sensor is coming this week. I’ve read a lot of people saying always go with OE when replacing sensors. Apparently the ones from autozone can crap out on you in like 10-20 miles. Not throwing a code anymore but idle isn’t perfect, hopefully new crank sensor will solve it.

I used cheaper parts as well, but it made it worse instantly. Maybe I'll grab the oem parts. Good Luck! Please let me know if the crank sensor fixes it.

@@acea1507 hey man sorry just now seeing this. Yeah I replaced the crank sensor and then ses light turned off after a couple days but I was still getting an oddly high rpm at idle. I did the idle relearn procedure (first try😎) and its been running pretty good since. There’s a few RU-vid videos on how to do it.

For the second gen Xterra there is only one. If there was two, it would tell you what bank the bad one is on.

The crank only has one sensor in the Xterra. The cams have one in each cylinder head.

Anyone have tips for pulling out the bolt for the sensor when it falls down into the bellhousing? No idea how I managed to mess up such an easy fix this bad.
@Rythecarguy
@Rythecarguy 3 года назад
Bro! How did you manage that? There should be an inspection panel at the very bottom of the bell housing. It's used to access your fly wheel. You should be able to unscrew the bolts on the inspection panel, pull it off, and get your bolt out from there.
@fv3086918
@fv3086918 3 года назад
When I pulled the bad part the bolt came undone and I'm almost sure it fell down there cause it's nowhere to be found. Thank you so much for your reply I'll check it out and try that out!!

I have the 2011 Nissan Pathfinder, has the same issue, I'm going to go ahead and replace the crankshaft position sensor, I didn't hear you mention what the engine is, mine is the 4.0, sensor is in the same place, so you might want to mention what engine you're working on, so if we aren't working on the 2 models you are, we still might have the same thing in a different model. I hope this cures the dying while driving issue. I think it will.
