Removing the headlight pods of the 987 generation of the Porsche Cayman is super-easy due to the extremely clever design.

The proper terminology for the front trunk, is called "bonnet” 😊

I couldn't agree more, it is a front trunk and nothing else.

In my opinion you have that the wrong way round and could stress the headlamp or bodywork. To release you rotate the tool clockwise on the right hand headlamp and anticlockwise on the left hand, The cranked part of the lockbar should move towards the road. It should not the hard to turn at all if you do it the right way. The cars manual shows this clearly for the left hand headlamp, at least for the UK.

That’s exactly what he said to do. Not sure what I’m missing - what was the wrong part?

That's right. I just removed my both lamps on cayman 987.2 and unfortunately Cliff had it wrong. I love your videos but this one is not the correct. To be honest those metal bars that lock the headlamp does not go over the top. They just move 180 degrees but over the bottom. In the correct way, the lamp does not go up before locking itself. Check in the manual. The metal bar should be facing down, then you install the lamp and turn it to the back by 90 degrees only and hear a clicking sound. The lamp is snug and that's it. It shouldn't go up upon locking.

Hi Cliff, hope all is well. I'm one of your happy subscribers! I need to change the bulb on my 2010 Cayman base. You explained it well. My major problem is...the nut or alan key part inside the lock has been stripped already the by previous owner. I am so frustrated. Do you have any suggestion? You're my only hope :) Thank you in advance.

I went out and did some digging on my car. Essentially, the special tool is a 5mm socket that attaches to a 5mm hex head in the fender. I'm not sure which you're saying is stripped. If the tool has stripped, then you can just use a 5mm socket with an extension and a wrench. It'll need to be a small one, though, because the hole is so tiny. I was able to grab it with a 1/4" drive 5mm socket + extension and I don't think anything larger would fit. If the 5mm head in the pod is damaged, I would try a stripped bolt extractor like these: amzn.to/4cipge7 The problem is that the smallest I could find was a 3/8" drive and most of them have a big hex base on them, making it impossible to get them through that hole. The one I saw that hasn't got that base was still 3/8 drive and is $54! You may have to use a step drill to open up that hole to get the extractor through there and grab that stripped head. And after you get it fixed, go back and punch the previous owner in the face ...
