Holy fuck, the amount of miss information on thermal paste application is just crazy. This guy did a good job! but your worst nightmare is not applying enough paste. Use moderate amounts of paste because the surface of cpu dies and heat sinks are never perfect. If you are using conductive paste then 80% coverage is fine to avoid spillage on the board. Only people who over clock to the electrical and physical limit of the cpu need to worry about thickness of thermal paste. Usually these people lap or remove the die plate to achieve better results. If you are doing this then you worry about thickness. All Heatsink clamps have a torque/screw limiter/washer to prevent pressing all the paste away. You can build an engine and it could be for a lawnmower, your moms car, a ferrari or an F1 car. Its up to you to determine the work required. Not all computers are F1 cars. Most of them are your moms car.

@Real_MisterSir
@Real_MisterSir 3 года назад
Sounds like either the cooling liquid hasn't been sufficiently filled up (or the pump isn't running etc), or someone forgot to remove a plastic seal before installing the cooler. 96C is bad with standard air cooling under heavy loads, let alone water cooling at startup. If you hit well above 90 just on idle, it means you probably never get more than half the CPU performance that it has available since it'll be throttling instantly and cut down on its frequency significantly to avoid critical cpu damage. As a benchmark for a standard build, your idle should be around 50C or preferably lower with watercooling, and stay in the 60-80C range under load. Anything nearing 90 is a major warning sign that something critical has gone wrong. Also make sure that you don't have the water tubing/radiator mounted in a way that could create big air gaps and prevent flow through the pump, especially if the pump is in the CPU attachment block.

@pach777
@pach777 5 лет назад
Well I just inatalled my AIO and I have to say it was easier with the MoBo on, since you need to route the wiring for lights and fans while you are installing the pump on the radiator. There is no actual risk of cracking the MoBo on a M4 socket since you screw the pump to the bracket that comes with the board and it stands above the board itself so there is no mechanical load on the pcb.

@@FirstDagger I did an X and a drop in the middle and just spread it myself, this way there are no air bubbles because pressing cooler on it will spread it from below as well and make it ooze out of the sides. If people are worried about air bubbles they happen all the time you can just minimize air bubbles and applying a thicker paste and pressing gpu on it will get rid of bubbles anyways.

When your pc shuts down its either because of temperature reaching the limit allowed (set by software), or it could also be energy issue. Try cleaning both cpu and gpu cooler and then change thermal paste on both (although I would run some games and turn on monitoring to check temperatures so you can see which one is getting too hot). If the pc still shutting down after all that, try reinstalling the drivers of your gpu. And if it still doesn't work, it means something in your build is dying, and my guess would be the psu.

LoL, I just did mine today on my old Inspiron 530 from 2008 - a whole DoZeN Yrs ago!! Only because it recently crashed & I took everything apart to clean out all that dust (this part, i actually do once every 2-3 yrs which kept the system running this long)... this time though, I just took both CPU+GPU apart to clean those fans thoroughly - that's when I realized that the old paste has dried up pretty much. To think that this computer has been running almost non-stop for that long or at least 18-22 hrs daily, is quite impressive =D

@@ejojo13 if I will use only cpu stock cooler of Ryzen 3 3rd gen. still needs to apply thermal paste? Or depends on CPU cooler you use?
@ejojo13
@ejojo13 4 года назад
I don't know about AMD's Ryzen CPU's that come with their own coolers/fans as those may come with pre-applied thermal paste... if not, just buy a 1g tube off Amazon or eBay for like $3-6 depending on the brand & use the Dot/Pea method to apply when assembling them together. I'll build my 1st system ever in 6-8 months when Ryzen 4600 hits the market... I put it off with 1600, 2600, & 3600 [almost went with it last yr, but decided to kick the bucket another yr by with my old Inspiron 530]. Actually, I just finished fixing it by replacing the CMOS battery after seeking for an answer as to why it crashed while I stepped away from it a couple of weeks ago. Found a thread where many had similar experiences, so I ordered a couple of new CR2032 off eBay for 1.50 apiece [PaNaSoNiC+SoNy with expiration date of 2029]... that was before removing the old one from the 530 to clean it out that I noticed it to be a NeWSuN brand CR2032. Then I had to wait yet another week for the thermal paste as I was not expecting to take those fans off their CPU&GPU while doing the full cleaning job! Spend part of yesterday & all morning cleaning out my full-size desk & changing out 1 of my 2 SaMSuNG monitors [it died after 11yrs... the other should last another 3-4 more yrs as it hasn't been turned on continuously in those 11+ yrs] with a 27in UltraSharp. They look funny next to one another as the new DeLL unit is 16:9 & the SaMMy is a 16:10 Also added a new RGB keyboard that I bought over 2yrs ago, but never got around to switching it out with the DeLL's. About to hook everything up in the next few minutes & back to regular online life again as the small tablet I've been using to get by is tiresome for typing long messages like this oNe!😂!
