I wash my cabinets with Murphy Oil Soap once a month and by washing them once a month, there’s no grease buildup and it doesn’t take long to clean them. I’ve used Murphy Oil soap on my cabinets for 33 years and my cabinets look great!
You keep a clean home just as I do, but you would be AMAZED at how filthy many people are. I wish I could add photos to this post because I could show you what my current rental looked like upon moving in. I have never moved into a place a filthy as this one was/is. I have been cleaning for months now, and I still have months of cleaning left to do. I have not even begun to tackle the outside yet.
Beyond the really helpful information you convey, I am so happy that, unlike so many videos of this nature, you don't speak a mile a minute, or shout. I appreciate your calm, detailed delivery. So much easier to pay attention.
Agreed, so many feel like they need to yell information at us. This was very helpful for me Angela. I have a couple homes with this exact problem on the cabinets.
I'm fortunate enough not to suffer from depression. I have mastered the art of organisation and keeping a clean home. I have no business being here, but find you so fascinating. I have binged watched around five of your videos after stumbling upon your depression and cleaning video. You're incredibly engaging Greetings from 🇬🇧
Wow. What a great "teacher" you are. I don't know how I stumbled across your channel, but so glad I did. Looking forward to learning lots of tricks to make cleaning easier. Thank you!
Angela, I swear you were just in my kitchen with me! I was standing there looking at my cabinets and wondering how to clean the grease off. I came and sat down at my PC and you popped up! Thanks for the great advice as always. I'll have to get one of the brushes. BTW, I LOVE my docapole. I use it for everything.
Hooray! We're twins. I love my DocaPole as well. Thanks for watching this and for taking the time to drop me a line. Keep me posted and let me know how this works on your cabinets. I'm eager to hear your experience.
You're like everyones mom or that one aunt who knows everything. I can not tell you how much I love and use your videos and tips. Thank you, I subscribed now so I wont miss anything.
I'm homebound due to chronic debilitating pain, yet watching your videos of you cleaning is so satisfying to me. Please know that the positivity of your reach extends even beyond those who can actually physically do what you demonstrate. Thanks! Blessings...🙏🏽🔆🌹
I have wach this video about 20 times, thank you. I been a house keeper for over 20 years, I lost all my clients thru pandemic and also lost way to pay my bills ,now I'm cleaning but, all yours videos help me to change and give better service to my clients, and I'm busy more then ever.
Sadly many lost clients due to the pandemic. But I love that you have new clients and are busier than ever....this is awesome!!! Thank you for kind words and support! I wish you lots of continued success!!!
My cabinets are so dirty and greasy. I tried cleaning the worst part ( above the stove) and the finish was coming off, so I stopped. I will try again using this method. I will come back and let everyone know the results. It seems like it is a very safe method. Love the channel already. I am subscribing. 🙂
It's actually possible that the built up grease was starting to eat through the finish and it wasn't the cleaning product. I've had one of those plug in oil air freshener things take the paint off a shelf that was too near that outlet. Prolonged exposed to certain oils can start to take off finishes.
Your cabinets look beautiful! What most people don't consider when giving cleaning advice is that many people do not have the supplies or cannot afford those needed items. Not everyone has a drill, let alone the needed brush head and the goggles. ❤
I did your method on my cabinets. Using the exact product and process. My cabinets had a lot of build up. The cutting board degreaser was not that successful. I had to scrub a lot. The drill buffing and murphys was good for clean cabinets. My cabinets are definitely better. But it was not as easy as I thought it would be. Thank you for the tips.
Hello Angela, Thank you for a fantastic video! Clearly your knowledge is gleaned from years of keen observation and your commitment to doing a great job. As much as I enjoyed learning the best way to clean my cabinets, I doubly enjoyed your thorough and efficient presentation style. Again, a hearty thank you!
I just took your advice and used the Murphy Oil Soap and it worked great. Just a tip to be careful with any sun damaged areas not to scrub too hard just clean it gentle or it can be damaging. no more greasy kitchen cabinets and it even took make-up and hair dye splatters off thd wood in the bathroom.
Hello Angela me again ! I was just going to get out a degreaser and thought Angela will know for sure ha ha. Saved the day for me again. You truly are my best buddy. Enjoy the rest of the week and have a Wonderful weekend. Cheers from Alberta Canada XOXO
I finally cleaned my entire kitchen and it was really bad. I used the Awesome cleaner from the dollar store and it performed miracles. I saw the grease pool up and drip off and it was the easiest project ever. That stuff works at cutting through really thick grease.
@@AskAngelaBrown well, now that it’s completely clean, I’ll use the method wood for good or Murphy oil soap for maintenance. I’ll never let it get that bad again.
I don't know if you read your comments anymore because you have so many of them now but I hope you do because I don't want to do a voice recording of my question. Can you possibly do a video on Septic Safe cleaners? Not are they just septic safe they are environmentally safe too. Hope you read this. Thank you for all.of your dedication to your channel. You have taught us cleaners "how to fish" and I am.ever so great full.
1.) Wear protection, mask, glasses, and gloves 2.) Take off knobs, and soak in Dawn dish soap and water for 10+ minutes 3.) Take a foam paint “tester” brush (black foam applicator, wooden handle), and “paint” on food - grade mineral oil used to moisturize cutting boards. Store in an away / safe place. Wipe after 10 minutes with a cellulose sponge, which you will dispose of after cleaning the cabinets. 4.) Use Murphy’s oil soap Murphy’s oil soap in a spray bottle on cabinets, and a power drill + brush attachment combo. NOTE: Never use degreaser. It will dehydrate the wood, can take off paint, and ruin or remove the cabinet finish.
I found an old bottle 3/4 full of Orange Glo Wood Cleaner & Polish in the garage right before I was going to Lowe’s to get the cutting board oil Well I tried it and it worked!! It’s greasy and non aerosol so similar to the cutting board oil in consistency I wanted to get more but it’s been discontinued They’ve changed to a 2 in 1 clean and polish formula It says it will remove wax build up by letting it sit on the surface for 5 minutes I bought it for the rest of the woodwork in the house. I love all your helpful cleaning tips 💕
Good to know, glad it worked well for you! And thank you for letting me know that you enjoy and find the cleaning tips helpful, I appreciate the feedback and continued support!😊
Much respect to you. I value your concern for safety, and I enjoy your no-nonsense teaching on what to do, and why you do it. You just earned my subscription and like. I look forward to learning all the hacks that you post on here, even if I do not need them.
Baby wipes, people. No gloves, no goggles, no power tools, no fumes, no mess. I don’t know what they put in them, but the stickiest of grease just wipes right off. I use them on my stainless range hood, too. No streaks, just sparkle! 👍
I agree, baby wipes all the way, even small spots on carpet or fabric furniture,...I've used many different brands, including generic ones and they all do a great job!
What else can I say? Very educational and informative videos! As always, more power and God bless! Love your efforts to inform and educate our community!
You are wonderful; You start with personal safety equipment! Too many people ignore this and our young people are not taking enough care - we have gotten more careless through the generations
I am so grateful and fortunate to find out your channel. Really useful information about cleaning field that i needed as a house cleaner. I do love your way to convey the details explanation of cleaning.
@@AskAngelaBrown i am really appreciate your reply. I am indonesian, that passionate for sure in cleaning. And learning continuously, looking for information up to date about cleaning field.
Great video! Very informative! One question: how can the mineral oil be fatal if swallowed, when it's a) food-grade, and b) recommended for use on cutting boards (which will, of course, mean that food cut on that cutting board will be in contact with the mineral oil, which means that you end up swallowing mineral oil when you eat that cut food)? I normally use mineral oil to treat my cutting boards, but if it *IS* toxic, maybe I should find some other way to condition them?
Hi Happy Bunny! Sorry, I didn’t mean to cause confusion. You’re right, in the video I was referring to the mineral oil as food grade. You are ok to use it on your cutting boards. Here is the definition of "food grade" www.csidesigns.com/blog/articles/what-is-food-grade and here is the Safety Data Sheet for the Mineral Oil used in this video. www.howardproducts.com/files/sds/HOW-113_Cutting-Board-Oil-1.pdf It is important to note that mineral oil is a liquid made from petroleum. While it is used for many ordinary household things and is safe for the intended purposes, using it in a manner inconsistent way (such as confusing it with other kitchen oils) could have fatal effects. The warning is to keep it in a locked area when not using it on your cabinets or cutting board and it is NOT intended for consumption.
@@AskAngelaBrown Oh, okay - that's a relief! Thanks for replying, and for the really useful links - I had recently oiled my cutting board with mineral oil, and was concerned that the food I'd chopped on it since then might have been (mildly) toxic!
Mineral oils are oils derived from crude oil as used in lubricants and have different types. Further processing of the paraffinic oils result in white oils referred to as paraffin oil. They are safe, however, ingestion of them is a means to promote bowel movement as in laxative effect.
@@AskAngelaBrown Hi there, I am dealing with gunk of three decades so I really needed this today! However, do I have to empty all my cabinets to use the mineral oil and Murphys Oil? Because they are toxic? Or so long as I don't open my cupboards, can I treat while they have stuff in them?
I have just rented a House and its an old house with wooden kitchen and bathroom cabinets. I am new to this and have been wondering how I will clean these as they do have grease on them and I know water and a cleaning spray is not a solution. I just watched your video and you explained this very well and I am going to try this method and I hope this will clean the cabinets up. The House has beautiful laminated flooring and I may use the Murphys oil on the floor also. Thank You.
I was just looking at my cabinets. I’m getting my kitchen repainted next week and I’m going to be cleaning my cabinets. It’s going to look new. Thank you.
That's awesome to hear! I'll be rooting for you and wishing you success as you get started. :-) If you want more in-depth guidance, you can check out our training for cleaning business owners at savvycleaner.com/join
Funny I did mine the other day. I can’t find Murphy oil here in Australia, so I used a kitchen degreaser! I sprayed a little on the worst bits, but I used a little soapy water on my brush to scrub , and then wiped over it with a damp cloth when done. My oak cabinets came up like new. So impressed.
Hi Angela! Thanks for all your great videos! Hard wood floor question- real, old wood floor... Not general clean, but cleaning stains from wood floor. Specifically - kitty poop that just misses the litter box, after picking up and cleaning floor of poop (sorry for the details) and some diarrhea there leaves a outline stain that has remained. What is the way to remove this type of stain? Thanks! 👍🏼
I used a furniture polish remover on a rag. Took the gunk off of my antique dining set. I had a huge buildup on the knobs but wanted to maintain the patina. I gently wiped until I removed enough but not 100%.
@@AskAngelaBrown Thank you for the reply. My set does not have a polyurethane finish on it because it is too old to have it. I think kitchen cabinet buildup is different. I am going to try some of your methods for that.
Thank you. The project turned out really well. We do this process for average families once a year and then families with young children (who can reach the cabinets) twice a year. This keeps them looking nice year round.
Thank you for this video. My cabinets are white made out of maple wood and some spots are turning yellow from the built up grease. Definitely trying this method
TY so much i have been feeling unmotivated to clean lately I used to be a clean freak and now I am over cleaning lol maybe menopause kicking in soon who knows hah but thanks for this it helps
I don't have an issue with greasy gunk build up other than on the blinds/thing above our stove (it's a vent thing from the 80s that used to have a massive microwave in it and one of these days we will replace it with a proper hood but it's a space with odd dimensions and we're trying to figure out how best to handle it). HOWEVER - my cabinets have the recessed panels in them like those in this video and giving them a good scrub down is such a chore. That drill brush is the tool I never knew I needed. I've been putting off giving the cabinets a good cleaning - I was going to get started today - but I simply must obtain that tool first. It seems the green one is "medium" stiffness and there are a few colors of medium stiffiness, yellow, blue, and green - the color is just so you can keep them straight for dedicated chores. Good to know for anyone looking to buy. So I have a set of brushes ordered and now this task I have been putting off... well now I can't wait to get started! Thank you so much for this tip, your videos are so inspiring and helpful. :-D
Angela, so glad for this video! Question: My cabinets have an inlaid wood design on the doors where grease is pooled between each layer. I purchased the drill bits and a brush which clean the rest of the door great but not the tight inlays. How can I clean that? Thank you and I love your videos. Homeowner here💕
Are the layers also wood? Are they sealed wood? And is it all the same type of wood or are they different types of wood? The best option for something like this (assuming it's a custom piece, which suggests it could be pricy is to contact the manufacturer or store of the brand and ask if they have a custom or proprietary product they use for cleaning - and if using it will void the warranty. They often sell something that is in alignment with the products they sell and if something malfunctions they will honor the warranty. Does that make sense?
How do you clean the white kitchen cabinets please? Glad I just found you channel. Moved into a brand new house and want to keep it clean from the start. Thank you!
How to get rid of heavy grease from cabinets? It’s very easy…..don’t fry greasy foods or deep fry inside the house to begin with. After spending a fortune on a kitchen remodel, I bought an electric frypan and an electric deep fryer and simply use them outside on the back patio when cooking or frying messy foods……it’s genius, no messy cleanups on the stove or cabinets or strong odors in the kitchen.
Hi Angela, love your video! Can you recommend a good cleaner for greasy stovetops? I’ve been using Bar Keeper Friend cleaner and don’t see any good results. Thanks in advance!
When America's Test Kitchen tested cleaners, they really liked the Method all purpose surface cleaner. I tried it on my greasy stove hood and it cleaned better and faster than my old kitchen cleaner.
For a greasy stovetop, you can use a degreaser or dish soap. Leaving it on (dwell time) shouldn't be a problem because the surface of the stovetop will have a gloss coat or an enamel on it. After you've scrubbed the surface and the stovetop is clean, rinse and wipe any soap or degreaser residue from the surface before cooking again. 👍
I dont understand the mineral oil (food grade) is fatal if swallowed but you can apply it to a cutting board? Also, are you using a dry sponge wiping the oil off? Thank you.
Hi Deb, Great questions. Here is the meaning of "food grade" www.csidesigns.com/blog/articles/what-is-food-grade and here is the Safety Data Sheet for the Mineral Oil used in this video. www.howardproducts.com/files/sds/HOW-113_Cutting-Board-Oil-1.pdf it is important to note that mineral oil is a liquid made from petroleum. While it is used for many ordinary household things and is safe for the intended purposes, using it in a manner inconsistent way (such as confusing it with other kitchen oils) could have fatal effects. The warning is to keep it in a locked area when not using it on your cabinets or cutting board. It is NOT intended for consumption. The sponge can be damp - it absorbs grease better when it is damp, and it is more flexible and easier to use.
I have the Exact kitchen cupboards and granite as you do. The glass in the cabinet above the stove gets beyond sticky. I use , believe it or not, tire cleaner. Spray it on lightly and the grease dissolves like melted butter. Or spray it directly on your microfiber cloth , follow up with window cleaner and Voila.
We have moved into a house that has many of years of grease on the cabinets and I really need to get rid of this extremely greasy cabinets and I am going to try to do the “easiest” process and take before and after pictures.
My rental kitchen cupboards are Oak. They are about 30 years old and need some love on top of a good clean... there is definitely sticky grease from previous tenants and some water damage. What do I do first?!
Hi! What type of brush attachment for the drill do we use for this project? I have a kit of attachments, but I find that even the softest one could potentially scratch the wood. Thank you in advance!
Hi Jeniffer, thanks for watching. Here is the paid link amzn.to/3PbggvQ to the drill brushes I use for cleaning. When you hover over the picture a row of product pictures appear. One of the pictures in this lineup has a color-coded chart that explains which color brush (strength type) you use on which type of surface. I know it seems like you will scratch the cupboards - but the green one is designed specifically for this purpose.
I really needed this! I have another kitchen question. I am helping a family member. Her kitchen stone floor is extremely dirty. She doesn’t do maintenance cleaning. All she has is a wet swiffer & that doesn’t work well (I tried 4 times). What can I use to clean it? It has had standing dog urine & feces on it.
When you say stone what do you mean? Is it a slate or travertine or a ceramic tile? Does it have a coating on it? Or, is it sealed stone? I need more information to know what to recommend.
Are they wood? If yes, are they sealed? If yes, the same method can be used. The mineral oil is clear, will remove the grease, and can be wiped right off. 👍
Angela, I LOVE YOU! Finally, we have a content provider that demonstrates proper cleaning methods. Too many people want to use the next best product or easiest product on the market. As you mentioned, these products are too powerful. My brother and I have been trying to keep our aged parents in their home. Well, there are certain chores that get put aside for another day. Sadly, it is the kitchen cabinetry that gets neglected. I feel that the doors should be removed as the entire surface requires the pre-treatment. Thank you for sharing your expertise.
Great video and thank you! Knob cleaning: if you soak the cabinet knobs in water for cleaning, then the screw holes will retain the water as you reattach them to the cabinets. Water can leak out or rust from the inside screw of the knob. There must be a fix for this?
Thank you for your positive feedback! When cleaning cabinet knobs, it's important to be mindful of water getting into the screw holes and potentially causing issues like leaks or rust. One way to address this is to try using a damp cloth or sponge to clean the knobs instead of soaking them in water. Alternatively, if soaking is necessary, you can dry the screw holes thoroughly before reattaching the knobs to prevent any water from being trapped inside. A Q-tip might help with getting the water in the holes. Additionally, you may consider using waterproof sealants or lubricants on the screws to provide some extra protection against moisture. These precautions can help minimize the potential for water-related issues when cleaning and reattaching cabinet knobs. Hope this helps.
Great vid thx. I believe Mineral Oil is non toxic, it is used on food cutting boards, on babies skin, and as a laxative. Mineral Spirits are a different matter ... maybe that's what you meant?
Thanks for adding to the larger conversation. Mineral oil is petroleum based and food grade so yes it is safe for cutting boards and not to be confused with cooking or other oils found in the kitchen.
That's great! I love hearing that. I'm a big fan of Murphy and have used their oil soap to clean and nourish cabinets for years. Thanks for watching and for sharing this.
Great question, What are the walls made of? Is it drywall? Is there a backsplash? Is it stucko? Wood paneling? Wallpapered? Painted? The secret will be in knowing the surface type so we can pick the right solution for removing the soil. 😀
@@sophiacstaley Awesome. Is the paint on drywall? (like a regular wall of the house?) And is the paint shiny or dull? If you flip a drop of water on the wall does it change the color of the wall (like it soaked in?) Or does the drop of water bead up on the wall and stay the same color?
My daughter and I clean apartments where people sometimes are evicted or they haven’t cleaned from the day they moved in until the day they leave. The thickness of the grease sometimes is overwhelming and sometimes the managers change out the cabinets that depends how many years clients have lived there. Just wondering if spending the money on Murphy’s oil soap is even worth purchasing for these type of conditions. The one good thing is the kitchens aren’t very large generally involve 6 upper cabinets 3 bottom cabinets, only 3 upper cabinets are generally the ones that are extremely greasy.
I would never, ever put a "fatal if swallowed" product on a cutting board. I use pure, USP certified safe and pure mineral oil on my cutting boards, and walnut oil on wooden bowls and wooden cooking utensils. USP certified safe mineral oil is also easier to find and less expensive than the product you show. One can find it on the laxative shelf of the drug store. It is widely used in the woodworking hobby and cabinet/furniture making industry. Walnut oil is hard to find and expensive, likely available at a high-end woodworking specialty store or the largest supermarket in your area. Smaller and medium sized grocery stores do not have enough space to carry a lesser-bought item. It too is food safe.
Good points. Thanks for joining the conversation and offering other alternatives to cutting board oil. This is a food-grade product designed for cutting boards to nourish and seal the wood. Used improperly or consumed by humans (inconsistent with its intended use - it can be fatal.) The key is to be aware of the hazards or dangers of any product used by referring to the safety data sheets and then using them responsibly. In this situation we are putting them on cabinets - and not near food.👍
Clorox wipes always have worked great removing grease and grime from all my cabinets, stove/range/hood areas. No fancy brushes,no soap nothing else works as good as Clorox wipes.
Have any of you tried WASHING DOORS REGULARLY with just a sponge and dish washer liquid dissolved in water? I have it in spray bottle. If u wash them once a week u won’t need all that shebang with a drill and stuff. I got tired just looking at that.
Murphys oil soap works wonders, I also use the degreaser grill dab on a sponge 🧽 quick swipe . Make your own solution combine baking soda , peroxide and dawn soap forms a paste , final dilute winger in spray bottle for shine .
Thank you for the detailed information-so helpful! I have an antiqued copper hood and have to be careful what I use so that the copper does not become discolored. Can I use the mineral oil on the copper hood?
Yowser. You can use the oil on painted cabinets but if you have grease on drywall with eggshell paint - you may need a new paint job. That is going to be hard to clean. Do you regularly cook with grease? If no, and the house was like that before you moved in, a paint job may be a good investment. 😍
