Good video. I learned the hard way. Have guys that cut the tree leave a three-4 foot stump. That gives you leverage to push stump over once roots start to weaken. Especially helps on harder wood trees. Of course you may have been hired to remove without talking to guys that took the trees down. Either way, its fun and satisfying "work"!

Yeah, for sure so much easier just to push the tree over than try to dig up the whole stump

If it's a live tree, I just push them over with my JCB 214S backhoe. Up to 18" Pines come out like weeds, leaving almost no hole from the root system. Then I lift up the whole tree horizontally with the clam bucket and buck it up into 10' sections. It's really fast and easy. If the tree is dead, I cut it down leaving a 4' stump for leverage. Dried branches on dead trees can break off and since I don't have a cage are very dangerous falling from 60' heights. Cheers from Canada.

spruce stumps run shallow. Maples and hardwood stumps are deeper.

I am currently digging out a maple I just dropped yesterday. Definitely not an easy stump as most I've dug out.

I'm just getting started into excavation. Would you give me an idea how you bid this type of job?
@dirtworktv

Yes, sir the easiest way to do it is probably your Time and Machines usually go from 125-200 an hour and usually charge some sort of equipment delivery fee to cover your fuel cost an trailer 250-500 or you could charge something simple like three to $400 a stump

@@dirtworktv I really appreciate you taking the time to answering my question. Not a lot of people on here are willing to share their knowledge. So again thank you for that! Also to begin with, i do a lot of concrete and harscaping but getting into excavation work, would you recommend starting with something small like a Kubota Kx 033, or something bigger like their Kx057? Or in between like the Kx040?

yeah for sure man I feel like that’s my main objective is like I want to offer opinions advice, and also learn myself that’s a lot of the problem is a lot of these people only think of themselves, and I learned when I was just getting started I wish there was somebody who would take the time to answer questions I had so any questions you got don’t ever hesitate. No such thing as a dumb question, if you wouldn’t mind sure the channel or whatever anything else we appreciate at least wanna continue to grow and help others achieve their goals

And I would say something in between would be good. That way you’re more versatile you can do land clearing you can do most excavation work and you can keep yourself from being limited by being on the in between size I would shoot for 10 to 14,000 pound machine, that’s what mine is. It’s 14,000.
