After I generate the fill layer, nothing changes. Don't know why, maybe it's the type of scene.

Thank you for explanation, but I want to ask, I also using AE 2022, but there is no option for 'Generate fill layer' or 'Create Reference Frame', could you help me?

It's because you need to be selecting your video layer otherwise it doesn't show up. Same thing happens to me so just left click on your video track then go to that panel

Despite following this video, mine will not correctly generate a fill layer, I just end up with a black 'patch' showing over the item I am trying to remove ( someone's big head in the way) Any suggestions.

Try doing a reference layer, it might even been that it's not picking up the video layer but i honestly cant remember what i did to fix it
