It was brought to my attention that the Mapping 2D Node may be redundant and not necessary. Sorry for this. I'll test it and try to address this in the next video! Even I make mistakes (of course I do)... hope it's not too much of a bummer.

I use keyshot all the time and I must say you’ve opened my eyes Theres things here I’ve never even seen or new could be done in keyshot I just wanna say thank you so much , truly means so much to see these vids , I know so many people who’ve always put me down or just hated on keyshot saying blender is superior , but I always just got used to keyshot and was the only render program that likes sketchUp models , I make TARDIS models as I see online there’s isn’t many detailed accurate and realistic TARDIS exterior models out there so I make em in keyshot , I’d love to see what you could do if I sent you one of my TARDIS models , would love to discuss this with you if your interested

Thank you for the thoughtful comment, it means a lot to me. While I'd love to say yes to your offer, right now, I have to be quite guarded with my time and my schedule doesn't allow me to take this kind of request. That said, I hope you stick around and that I can help you along on your own creative journey as I publish more videos soon. Thanks!

Hi, What a great video :D I'm trying to use this to create a "engine turning" surface - circles overlapping used as a decorative surface fines on metal. I'm using Stainless Steel Circular Brushed as a starting point and then added mapping 2d and Mesh to control the circles. Keyshot won't overlay the circles but create some hexagonal patterns instead. what can i do to make the circle scratches overlapping each other and not the cuts? Hope you can help :D Thanks for some great tutorials !

@@WillGibbons I watched it, awesome video. It's just that wood is a extremally complicated material at least for me, there are many different ways to represent it and it's so easy to mess it up. Thank you for your videos, you are doing a great work!
@WillGibbons
@WillGibbons 4 года назад
Wood is organic and KeyShot's procedural textures don't really favor organic materials. I'd recommend going with high-quality image-based textures in that case. I suggest looking at Poliigon.com for such resources.

so I've been trying to add some moving texture animation but can't seem to find a way, on a color gradient i can just add curve animation to shift node, I tried using this method mesh and 2d mapping I get access to a shift node this way, but when I connect it texture vanishes, is there an easy way shift a texture or do i need to add a video map?
@WillGibbons
@WillGibbons 3 года назад
Unfortunately, you need to add a video map. Used to be a way to animate location of a texture, but that's not supported anymore.

May I ask you one question not related to this tutorial? (Keyshot forum is pretty deserted now). Do you know how to place a gradient mask on edges of a material of a complex object? For instance, I have a bent metal plate with brushed front and back surfaces, bumpy/rough rims and partially brushed partially rough fillets between them. I've assigned in Solidworks front/back surfaces and fillets as material#1, bumpy/rough rims as material#2. And now I want to place a gradient mask on the fillets in order to make smooths transmission between these two materials. Also, I want to place a gradient mask on the rims to make them more bumpy and scratched on the center and less on edges of material#2. Picture - imgur.com/Brt8Qgo Occlusion or Curvature texture won't help(I had high hopes for Occlusion). Linear Gradient would have done the job but the plate is not flat. I assume that Curve or Map types of Color Gradient may help but I couldn't figure it out how to use them and I wasn't able to find any information about these Color Gradient types on the Internet, even on Keyshot Manual, just nothing...
@WillGibbons
@WillGibbons 4 года назад
Without UV unwrapping the chair, you won't have luck achieving what you want. If the chair back had no curvature to it, a linear gradient would work. You would build each finish you want, the smooth one on the base, then add the bumpy texture as a label on top of the base. Then, using a color gradient, you could fade the opacity of the label to only show on the surfaces you want. That said, the color gradient won't map the way you want it to the back of the chair without UV unwrapping it in another program. Sorry I don't have a better answer.
@ilikeskies
@ilikeskies 4 года назад
@@WillGibbons What do you mean by "chair"? You thought it's a chair on my model? It's a curved engraved stainless steel plate for dog collars: cdn11.bigcommerce.com/s-t04x4i8lh4/images/stencil/900x900/products/135/7872/slide-on-name-plate-installed__62529.1572133721.jpg?c=2. Ok, I'll learn and try UV unwrap. But what tool I should use in Keyshot after that? Is it Linear gradient or maybe Curve or Map types of Color Gradient?
@WillGibbons
@WillGibbons 4 года назад
Apologies. I thought it was the back of a chair. I didn't see the entire model, so it wasn't clear to me. Unfortunately, as I said before, you're going to have to rely on UV mapping to accomplish what you're trying. Otherwise, render out a couple finishes and use Photoshop to composite them to achieve the rendering you want.
@ilikeskies
@ilikeskies 4 года назад
@@WillGibbons Thanks. I did a course on UV unwrapping in Cinema 4D and now plan to learn RizomUV)). But I ran into another... difficulty: dunno how to export or convert model from SolidWorks to quad polygons for further UV unwrapping. How do you do this or maybe you deal with triangles?
@WillGibbons
@WillGibbons 4 года назад
@@ilikeskies Not the answer you want... if I know I need to UV unwrap something, I'll model it in Blender using good topology. I don't have a workflow for turning engineering CAD data into good quads.
