That wire was so thin, they shouldn’t have put anything! The way you do it with the re-bar is a solid slab. Liking the early upload 👍
@missionDan
@missionDan 6 лет назад
Integra DIY to be fair, and this isnt a dig at david, the reinforcing mesh should be sat on chairs or a tric trac type product so it is in the center of the slab, this would have made a lot of difference to the integrity of the base, Americans seem quite content pulling the rebar in to the concrete as they pour but you only need to be 20mm from damp ground for that rebar to rust and pop the slab within only a few years.
@IntegraDIY
@IntegraDIY 6 лет назад
Mission Dan I do agree it would be best to elevate the rebar higher, but it does have a vapor barrier which helps keep moister down. I think it’s more important for an out door slab but I’m no expert :)

The problem with 6 gauge wire and 6" squares, it means you have to walk on the wire because your feet wont fit in between there fore bending the wire to the ground. Wire is no good.

Are they going to remove the tree? It would be reasonable to say that those roots would just grow back over time.

@@OdellCompleteConcrete where are you located? I need to do this in my house. I don't have bulging but the opposite actually. I have a depression in my slab but its covered by laminate so I can't see the extent of the damage. It's a split ranch and the outer foundation (footers? ) are an inch higher than the lowest spot I've found. I think it was a gutter drainage issue that was corrected after the damage was done. Any advice or contractors in the St. Louis Missouri you know and want to recommend, thank you.
@roberts.5293
@roberts.5293 5 лет назад
Tree roots only damage things that are already damaged. Tree roots seek out water and water can sit in the cracks that are already formed. Narrator says so in the video "roots came in thin into the cracks and swelled". Avoid this by ensuring any vapour barriers are installed properly and ensure that there is some sort of barrier around your foundation prior to planting.
@russellmartin2705
@russellmartin2705 6 лет назад
David if the homeowner wanted to keep the trees could you treat the ground with root killer? I had to replace a section of main line that had root intrusion and asked the plumber to put killer around the couplings and he didn't, roots came back in a year. I would pass that job, too many issues like future copper leak, dust in shutters, banging the walls with tools, if ground water rises perimeter will leak and on.

Thank you for the video, I'm so terrified right now. I'm dealing with monstrous red cedar tree roots, there were 6 in row, planted in a 30ft x 20ft yard of my neighbor's, they tower the homes at about 50 ft in Ht. One tree base within 8 ft of my home foundation 3x the width of all the others, clearly finding water and oxygen from under or around my homes foundation, and he & everyone (he knew) tried to downplay this for a year. He even came out last yr, dug and cut the root, claimed he had remedied the issue, covered it back up with dirt and said he was finished. But the problems continue. It's gotten worse. Pavers continued to lift, all my plants and bushes died on this side , a cert arborist he finally hired came out and even tried to downplay the severity until, I sent him pics the next day when I, myself (a woman) Finally went out last Saturday morning to lift about 75 pavers and dig around. It's pretty horrific what I uncovered. The roots are going in 2 directions around the corner of my 2 story unit. They're HUGE , I just got started digging and I'm scared as to the actual extent. Some roots are 5-7in W , 15ft long. One base of one root( where he cut last year and burried) is 15 in wide , 14 in deep in spots and has 4 arm roots that extend visibly, 15ft, a couple of those are 9in wide. Now I have noticed cracks in walls, nail popping, and it seems I have water somewhere under my slab because of the growth. It's all like a puzzle I finally out together. Knowledge is power! Calling insurance tomorrow. Wish me luck

Would there be a benefit to using a concrete saw to get a nice clean cut close to wall? I’d be nervous about disrupting the concrete under the walls with the jackhammer
@Agnelum1
@Agnelum1 6 лет назад
xxxnolove Risk of cutting those pipes if a saw was used, maybe? Also, doesn't a nice clean cut also make it easier for the new pour to "move" along what is essentially a fault-line?

Great video! I was wondering why you didn't get the circular saw out to cut along the edge, and then rebar into the existing foundation. I've seen you do that on patios and stuff. I guess you don't expect any movement since it's in the middle of the foundation.

Wade Knelsen I don't think so, the tree is gone.
@Jorge_moya
@Jorge_moya 5 лет назад
Exactly what I was thinking. The ground will expand and shift with the seasons and water. The new floor was not tied to the existing concrete. Most other videos I've seen they tie the new to the old so it moves together. This will either lift or sink in time. It's basic science.
@head7502
@head7502 6 лет назад
Why not saw cut the edges 12-18” away from the wall instead of worrying about it popping off the glue and dowel in the rebar so it won’t lift again. I know it’s gonna get covered by some kind of flooring but just seems like it would be cheap insurance.

Odell Complete Concrete ok thank you, I have more info to share and a “few” more questions 🧐 The area in the garage is about 16”Wx 25’L and the largest area in the Master Bath is 3’Wx10’L, there is no vapor barrier. There looks to be 6 gauge wire mesh in my slab. Here come more questions: -Should I put down a vapor barrier, if so what millimeter? -Should I epoxy to secure the rebar? -How deep should I drill into both sides of the old concrete for 3/8 rebar? -Should I wire tie the dowel rebar to the new 3/8 rebar, or do they work together but independently of each other to securely fasten/bond the old concrete and new concrete? -Should I use cement mix or concrete mix and how do you determine psi? I noticed you didn’t use doweling in this video and that is a much bigger space to back fill than what I have. Can I use the same method? Have any referrals in Houston, TX? Have any referrals in Houston, TX?

I personally could not agree even more. Your level of detail and attention as such is displayed in every video you professional produce. Those lucky few in California are so lucky to have your service that makes the rest of us in the United States jealous with envy.
