I realize this is an old video.... but I just used the Rain-X kit... Worked great. My windshield is amazing. Thank You Chris. My only slight addition to your video would be, if it doesn't seem to fill the whole starburst, just LET IT SIT. Hit it with a heat gun a little maybe. I got a phone call, and when I got back, the crack was totally filled perfect....

I bought a car with a chip on it. it was a star. I used this exact kit in the same way, but when I was done and used the razor at 90° it just left a white circle around the chip. Did I do something wrong?

I had a little chip on my windshield at the bottom most passenger side which I didn't notice and now it has grown to a huge crack spreading from bottom to half way up the windshield. Have you done any video for cracks and if you have please help me with its link. Thank you

Here's another comment I copy-pasted and its answer from ChrisFix: Q: I have a cracked windshield in my 89 del rey, that crack is probably older than i am, and it's not the spiderweb type, is there any way to fix it? A: If the crack is longer than 6-8 inches or so, you need to replace the glass. If it is shorter you can try this kit I sow in the video. Hope it helps :)

The other kit you used left the windshield chip completely invisible. So imo the other one works better. But it is one time use. That's true.

+Atrax R It varies. It has nothing to do with the kit. Some chips come out perfect, while others leave a little mark.

ChrisFix Ah, thanks for clarification. Cause the RainX kit is the only one available over here. It's the one I'll have to buy. But the vacuum the other makes seems like a better way. Not that I know tho, never tried either one. But I will try the RainX one on Tuesday. Have to wait cause it's not readily available in stores here (which really brings my piss to a boil let me tell you...).

+anna kavalov same reason your razor doesn't cut you (or shouldn't cut you) when you shave. you just have to hold it at the right angle.

+anna kavalov Think "your teeth" vs "sharp dentist tools". Silicon(glass) is harder then iron(razor). Glass is the "ice" state of silicon(temperature is relative), and ice took out the titanic.

stainless steel Razor Blades wont scratch Glass, Its what all tint professionals use to clean glass before tinting.

after the fixture is mounted over the crack and the resin is under pressure.... it helps to take a lighter and add heat to the inside of the glass a little under the chip. this heats the lamination between the glass and helps the resin spread to all of the cracked area.. dont heat for more than about 25 30 sec. and keep the flame about half inch away. lighter only! no heat gun or tourch..(too much heat at once)glass tech. for 10 years now.

Put a mirror behind the chip on the inside of the screen. This way you can keep an eye on how much pressure you pushing the resin in with the plunger and you can see how well the repair is going as you do it. DO NOT wind the plunger all the way in, especially if you put more resin in as this can force the chip to crack further and completely fuck your screen. Allow the the resin to sit for a few minutes before unwinding plunger to release trapped air. You can repeat the process as many times as you like untill you think it wont improve anymore. Applying some subtle heat from the inside behind chip can help open the glass up and allow the resin to flow in further. DO NOT get too hot. The sooner you fix the chip the better the result. I repair and replace windscreens for a living in the UK. Although this kit he is using is a very basic likeness its nowhere near as good as professional kits. UV lights are used to ensure the resin cures off properly. And pretty sure the tapping on the screen will do fuck all haha

8:14, when you remove the plunger, it can create a vacuum, It may help to screw in and remove the plunger a few times to remove air pockets. Other tips I saw on YT, is to tap the glass with the wet resin, slight heat from inside from a hairdryer or lighter, and polishing the final cured resin.

Most auto insurance companies provide $0 deductible coverage for this sort of windshield repairs. So unless you're hellbent on DIY, maybe give your auto policy a call first to see if they'll send somebody out to do it professionally.

Yeah... just got a new 2018 RAV4 Limited just month ago...week half ago had crystal fusion wjnshield done.... day ago it rained and a spot front of me (winshiled) about 5 ×7 wasnt treated right as or do behind the curtains .. i noticed that the (Sprinkled) drops wasn't streaming off the glass shield... they were stationery just moving slow and i was on the highway.. i turned wiper off..i thought it s the wiper..but how when this car is new..but you can see streaks of the measurement i mentioned... poorly half fast job for i paid off on it!..wemt back to dealer so they re-did it again.. hard to tell when its dark how good theyve done... took it to the carwash to see it better..not enough lighting..but noticed..theres a pin chip..it wasnt there before unless on way home on hwy traffic might of gotten a little...pebble! Cant really see it from outside much but when ur in drive seat .you can see it especially from a little glare from lightpost.. i may fill it in with super glue ..just egde of a sewing pin should probably do it!

2 big mistakes , even in very cloudy conditions the resin will Polymerise you need zero sunlight even a little UV will ruin your repair, also when you are about done use a lighter from inside, the heat will make all the bubbles go out from the crack. .

i actually have the same chip on my windshield because couple day ago i saw something like a rock hit my windshield on passenger side and today i saw the chip look just like this one. you can see the circular crack but it is crack inside the windshield ...it is a wonder how a chip can be in this shape and form. thank for the video

I have many years of auto glass experience. Did you know your windshield has been replaced before? That PGW stamp on the glass if aftermarket Glass. PGW is a good brand so good job with that. Also if you ever have spots that need filled a little extra taking a lighter lightly around the chip for about 3-5 seconds helps. Great video. Keep up the good work!

HauntedPurpose you can also vacuum it a second or third time to get those dark spots out which looks like air bubbles or maybe has some moisture inside. I also am a certified glass tech by GlassWorld.

This method sucks... The other one with the syringe is way better as it sucks out the traped air before you apply epoxy with pressure, this method doesn't do that and has traped the air in the bulls eye, the air has to go somewhere but it can't as your pushing the epoxy into the same corner that the air is in causing a air locks that is visible when finished.

@@paralelmind You have to pull a vacuum then introduce the epoxy under pressure into the crack.. If you do it your way then your screwed as when you re-apply you're causing even more air into the crack when you break the original seal.
