There actually is very little to these Dewalt planer, once you take the body and motor unit out. There isn't much else there.
They are a nice little planer and are powerful, but they are also basic and don't plan to 0mm.
They always seem to plan something matter mow low you set them.
As with any planer, nails and screws cam play havoc with them. When they hit something hars enough they tend to do damage to the set plates or the clamps, as well as the blades.
resetting the holders and changing the set plates is quite simple to do. But do watch out if debree getting inside the motor unit.

Great video as always. I'll stick with my pre-WWII Stanley-Baileys Nos. #2-8 working collection for planing "manually".

Power planer only better for removing lots of waste, finish always better manually, unless you go slow with these.

Hi Dean Could you do a Vid on zeroing and setting the blade. Dewalt don't seem to think people should know how this is done.

I like my dewalt tools alot out of over 20 I've only had 3 stop working still under warranty. I like your videos because if I need to fix a tool I now have a better idea how.

If your saying that, you'd probably not have that happen to you in the first place, I've got a three blade 240V, it's got 6mm thread bolts that clamp the blades, respect for running these things often negates a tool for Dean to sort.

@@Mark5mith90% of the tools in for repair come from large companies and not 1 of em respect their tools. Stuff I seen is insane and mostly preventable. Now the stuff from average person was always in much better condition.

@@verifiedduncepackcrew5586 Maybe I'm just old fashioned, I look after my stuff, which is a hotch potch, most are hand me downs but they do the job, aye, site stuff is not well treated, if they don't have to pay for it they don't care, keeps Dean busy though😁

Dean is there any chance you can let us know what each repair cost out of interest. Been throwing out these tools for years because when I send them in local for repair it's takes 6 or more months to get them back.am hooked on watching these vids and have learnt so much about the quality of some tools.

yes i will try include prices where possible. But the price is not what ever repair shop will charge. i only get paid pannies here in donegal, so the labor cost is less here.

Do you sell any to a cheap retired military guy in the USA? I like to repair and reuse my tools, but finding used ones are difficult.

So the blade casting was liberated from a Makita that's been around 40 years.So I assume the planer will work with the original massive blades that don't break .and those blades are more available available

I'm not liking the blade setup on that, a screwdriver isn't my preference for tightening something that is subject to those kind of forces.
@WoodMachinist
@WoodMachinist Год назад
When you buy one of these it comes with quite a nice socket T-wrench for tightening the screws using the hexagonal portion. You could also use a Torx allen key for more leverage over a screwdriver but you don't want them ridiculously tight as it's unnecessary and will damage the threads in the drum.
@Mark5mith
@Mark5mith Год назад
@@WoodMachinist as long as repeated blade changes don't wear it out, the plane I've got uses 6mm thread bolts for tightening the blades and 4mm grub screws for the height, this looks weaker and harder to align.

You can go buy another one and switch out the guts on it if the controller is bad and put the bad one in the new one then take it back and it doesn't cost anything but gas and time don't ask me how I know .
