This method works on both the Noma Biscuit, Royalites style bubble lights, and likely others of similar construction.
Correction: when I am going over materials needed I state "15 watt bulb," it is actually a 15 volt bulb used in these fixtures.
C6 bubble lights are getting quite expensive in working condition, so I scour the internet for non-working ones. I found these several months ago. There were a total of six that didn't work in some form. Two Noma biscuits had broken tubes, three Noma Biscuits had burned out bulbs, and one Royal bubble light had a burned out bulb.
Before recording this video, I practiced on four bubble lights, and seemed to hone my technique more, with each one repaired.
I watched an outstanding channel called c6lites, to get some info on where to begin, so go check out that channel for a wealth of information about bubble lights:
www.youtube.co...
In this video, I show how I repair two Noma Biscuit bubble lights. One is a slow step by step process, and the other I just do "quickly."
Some come apart easier than others, but all are well worth the effort to fix, due to the high prices of these lights. The idea with the glue I use, is to not have to go through the cutting process, when the bulb needs to be replaced again. Simply soak in water, and the entire assembly will come apart.
A handy tip is bubble tubes from c7 bubble lights should work in the these c6 varieties. I replaced two, successfully, in my application. Soak them in hot water the same way, until the glue releases the tube.
Attempt procedures shown here at own risk, especially working with blades, methylene chloride, and glass. Please wear a thick glove, or two, and have a lot of patience, as the blade could slip at any moment, and glass could break easily, as well, when removing/installing glass tubes into the base.

We had bubble lights when I was a kid. Always used C7 lights on our tree. I see the benefit of using school glue instead of model or super glue is that if the bulb fails in the future just soaking them in hot water will soften and melt the glue making repairs much easier since school glue is designed to wash out of clothing without causing any lasting damage.

Nice! I have some C7 bubble lights in service, and they will be included in the 2022 Christmas lights tour. Yes, that is the plan. After several days in service, they are staying together, just fine.

Do u know any tips to get the bulb out on one of those newer bigger models?

It's the same procedure as seen here.

Can't Santa's little elves help with this? Or are they busy all year making toys for the childrenses? Anyway, that's a very painstaking process. But, for things that are unobtainium, or at least unobtainium for the price, that's an excellent job well done. I'm sure this video will help others interested in repairing theirs.

They're on the elevators, hard, so I have to do this work! Oh yes, I see the writing on the wall. evilbay has already prohibited the sale of bubble lights, since September, so perhaps that is yet another Octember fail! I got lucky, and snatched some up, before the listing got removed. Got an email from the 'bay about how dangerous the are, as well as the seller, and to stop using them. Fortunately, after the seller, and I reached an agreement, the transaction went through! At this point, I should've died like 200 years ago, by the amount of "dangerous" items I have in, and around the house.

@@dynatrak Har har! I know, we both have things that should have killed us 200 years ago. Name the item. I'll tell you what will kill us: I was invited to my sister's house for dinner tonight. Her boyfriend replaced all the sockets in their vintage chandelier in the dining and then put in err eee dees. Cool white, no less! ugh, blinded for life! They are cool "Edison style" type bulbs that almost look like they could be CCFL, but no, just stark. blinding light.

On my first attempt, I did OK until I got to the part of taking the bulb out. It absolutely does not come out. Even my big mechanic husband with all his strength could not break the glue loose. Got any ideas? Also, still can not find the bulbs. I have a box full of these wonderful bubble lights that are burned out. I have been saving them since I was young, ( I am 80 yrs old) . I truely need help. Thank You

Sounds like the base needs to soak in hot water for longer. I never had one not come loose, so far. On the stubborn ones, after soaking in hot water, I'll grab the bulb base that screws into the light socket with pliers, while holding the plastic bubble base with a leather glove on. Then gently twist the bulb base with the pliers back, and forth. It should break free from the bubble base. Ebay is getting bad about taking down bubble light listings. Here are the ones I use. Get them fast, they tend to sell out quickly! www.ebay.com/itm/256252411747?hash=item3ba9d57f63:g:0oEAAOSwHvFk1pDN!

Keep in mind, the whole set won't light if just one lamp is loose or burned out, so be sure each one is out be fore pointless disassembly.

They can be found online pretty easily. Long shank 15 volt 5 watt bulbs is what to search for.

Wound up getting hold of a few of these but without a way to test or light. What fixture or outlet can you get to try them out or can they only be used in noma products?
@dynatrak
@dynatrak Год назад
I use a 9 volt battery to test them. Just touch the bulb base to one battery terminal, and the threaded side side to the other battery terminal. It will light if the bulb us good. If you want to use them, there are always c6 strands for sale on ebay.

So, no real way to convert to a 120v bulb? Is it size or it would get too hot and melt the plastic….? Thanks for the info
@dynatrak
@dynatrak Год назад
@@msoul3248 No these are 15 volt bulbs meant for a series string of 8. Multiply 8 bulbs times 15 volts each for a total of 120 volts. You will need to buy the appropriate c6 strand to use these bulbs.

They still make 120 volt bubble lights. Any hardware store will have them. @@msoul3248

Would it be better to remove as much of the original adhesive from the bubble tube to make it easier to install in the repaired base? Also, does the bubble tube rest on top of the new bulb inside the base? Very informative video. I have 2 sets of these in the original boxes that my Dad bought back in 1947.
@dynatrak
@dynatrak 10 месяцев назад
They aren't one size fits all, sometimes they need the old adhesive for a tight fit, and sometimes it needs to be removed, if the tube fitment is tight, to begin with. Yes, the tube rests on to of the bulb. Thank you. Do your sets from 1947 still work?
