Please leave your questions (and of course suggestions) in the comments and I will respond accordingly.
In this video, I’ll take you through the step by step process of fixing a talking drum. You can do it too 😊. I am using my Iya-Ilu (Mother talking drum) as example here. Iya-Ilu mostly leads the Yoruba dundun ensemble with gudugudu as accompaniment.

Thank you for this! I recently was given an old ashiko that somebody tried to repair incorrectly. It needs a head and strings. Although slightly different from the drum I have, this will greatly help me in repairing. God bless.

How long do we scrub for between clenched fists. I normal Pull the skin apart between scrubbing. I noticed that my drum face, some of it become transparent. Even though I keep it wet when I am sewing the drum. Please help.

I will advise that you scrub all areas evenly. As you pull the skin apart, observe if it has the same flush all round.

@@mosesayankunle Oga mi, thank you so much for your feedback. I am appreciate sir. A follow question. When you cutting off the Extra skin from the Drum head after you sew it and pull the string [Osan]. How do you get an Even / smooth round rim Edge of the drum. ? My edge is round, to a degree. but the awo is not very smooth like yours. Thank you in advance.

I have a question.. when you puncher the drum with needle,do you Pierce the eleke or you go around the skin? Thank you
@mosesayankunle
@mosesayankunle 3 месяца назад
The ìlẹ̀kẹ̀ isn’t pierced because this might break the needle and the ọgán would not pass through without difficulty. The first and second layer of the hide (awọ) is pierced slightly off the ìlẹ̀kẹ̀ (hidden between both layers) for smooth process.

@@mosesayankunle awesome.. O make sense. Esà.. so the ileke is slightly pinched when passing through needle between the first and second layer of the awo. Is that correct?
