Grinding the braid is needed at the very beginning of its preparation for work and with proper storage, that is, lubrication for the winter with salidol or any other lubricant before mowing, simply wipe the lubricant with a rag and the braid is ready to work. But since I hadn't used this scythe for about 10 years, I had to clean it a little from the rust.
Previously, the scythe was grinded and polished with stone and sand on the river. That is, constantly wetting the stone with water, the braid cloth was brought to a mirror shine.
I, in view of the progress that has developed to date, use an angle grinder for this, or, more simply, a grinder.
If the braid attachment is well thought out and configured, then it can be removed with one light blow of a hammer.
Knocking out the braid on the headstock, I compact the metal, and most importantly, I pull out the blade.
When the blade is dense and thin, it cuts the grass well and does not lose its sharpness for a long time.
For sharpening the scythe, I did not take a device with water, which is called a kushka, but simply moistened the bar with dew.
By the way, the bars for sharpening braids were cut out of minerals that were found in different places and rocks of the Carpathians.
In ancient times, the most popular was the bar brought from the Hungarian Tokaj region. It was called so - "tokaika".
As you can see, the scythe cuts off the grass perfectly, which means I'm ready for haymaking. Comparison of the cleanliness of the cut of the scythe, brushcutter and segment brushcutter, as well as their performance - in the following videos. Thanks for watching, friends.
