You are AWESOME! Just saved my life! I dropped my usb-3.5"-harddisk. powerpin broken. disassembled it. It was not recognized anymore at first but on another computer it was okay. Only that it was "not formatted" anymore. It sounded fine and seemed to work properly. But after quick formatting it, only 2 of 4 TB were recognized. So i did this AWESOME tutorial ... WTF. A normal eraser? I didn't use mine since my school days. Haha. So good. After that, Windows recognized the whole 4 TB again. I formatted it properly and am currently running a data recovery program. Pure Awesomeness! Thanks a lot, dude!

I don't know how to thank you, the method you mentioned in video helped me as my last change, I was about to giving up of rework my 2004 model 3.5 IDE SAMSUNG 120GB HDD. I wanted to try it as my last chance and it looks so easy the way that everyone can use eraser but I was really shocked after erased all surfaces of logical card and pulled the usb cable to the laptop. Completely insane!! I got our family pictures,videos back which are more older than 10 years .. Your awesome!

My desktop failed to boot and setup did not show seagate harddisk. I tried to boot multiple times, once it detected (I felt the vibration when it started), but before it could boot completely, the drive stopped. I followed this video, cleaned the connections with an eraser. I could see the connection were blackened and it came off with lot of rubbing. I put on the screws back very tight and tried, it was not detected. I again removed the screws cleaned more, this time I just tightened the screws enough (I read on the disk not to screw very tightly). This time the hard disk was detected. It has been two weeks and the hard disk is working well. I am writing this comment from the same desktop.

Thanks innovative ideas for putting this video. By informing us how to bring back to life a dead Hard Drive, you have given a ray of hope for survival of my external Transcend 1 TB hard drive. But still I need your further suggestion rather clarification on status of my drive. 1. The drive is not detected by the computer though the motor is working. 2. There is a clicking sound with regular interval when device is running in computer 3. Can I open the disk and expose the circular disk (in which data is stored) to sunlight or even light as there seems to be problem with read and write Head. Kindly reply.

Also you can use a graphite pencil to not only erase but redraw on the contact pins or any burnt out traces on the logic board to get it to work.

Indirectly it is possible. As virus attack may slow down the process of pc, and sometime we forcely shut down pc by power switch, in that case it is possible.

Kindly check the settings in BIOS if it is on AHCI mode then please change HDD mode to IDE. Thanks

Dear +INNOVATIVE IDEAS Fantastic and easy to understand video. One question...What is the bit number you have used to open the screws on the logic card ? Also I have a seagate backup plus slim 2TB portable hdd and am finding it difficult to open 2 of the screws out of 4. Also the hdd makes a beep sound twice as it is connected (there is no click or buzz sound) and the hdd is vibrating as if its powered on but is still untraceable. I have tried changing the usb cable as well as double checked the bios and its proper. Kindly guide me. Thank you. :)

Bro I have the same hdd as yours. However, the screws are so tight I think it’s corroded. Can I put some lubricant oil in it or this will damage the hdd? Also, the only screwdriver I have is the small one. Is there any other solutions for that? Please help and thank you so much!

Thank you for creating such an informative video like this! I am also facing not exactly the same issue but I could able to see the local disk drives (have 4 partitions) in my system (My Coumpter). But could not be able to open or check the details of the drives through Partition Manager or Windows Disk Management Tool. When I try either way to check my drives it got hung and nothing would be showing after that. All the times, I needed to unplug it from my PC to avoid the hanging problem. I am using the same model of HDD (WD 320GB) shown in this video and currently which is connected with my PC through an HDD Enclosure. Can you help me to resolve this issue?

Kindly disable SMART option in BIOS settings and take backup of your data. Ready for new HDD.

Reboot and select proper boot device Or insert boot media in selected boot device and enter a key I'm facing this issue.. can u suggest anything?

In this case HDD is not detected or operating system is working well. Kindly check in BIOS , if HDD is shown there, then please try to install operating system, if HDD is not shown there then please apply the method shown in the video. Thanks.

Worked on my WD 500gb 2013 build HDD the drive stopped working suddenly after 6 years. My drive was not getting detected in BIOS. P.s. Pencil eraser worked for me

sir, till last saturday, my 1 TB HDD (TOSHIBA) was perfect. next morning, my motherboard repeatedly failed to detect it, I tried required cable alternation work, but nothing happened. So, I rushed to my known computer shop, they told me that HDD is dead without proper test. My HDD is just 2.5 years old. Data is extremely valuable to me.

I don't have any pen eraser laying around my home so I used alcohol instead on the connectors instead. My hard drive worked for some time but it stopped working after an hour :(. Can you suggest any alternatives other than the pen eraser?

Unfortunately the power supply code (adapter) of laptop which hanged in my legs two time due to tiny area and my Laptop had dropped for my tables and was not able to read the data so was thinking that it might have some hard disk may get the internal damage or else problem so i wish to get repaired with law cost those hard disk so does it way to get it repaired ? kindly input your valuable suggestion.

I used Alcohol and q-tips to clean the contacts is that ok? I got rid of the corrosion but still not working still says device is not recognized and giving USB error, not detecting the drive even in Disk Manager disc is spinning no issues, no noises, I hear the reading head but no detection.

sir my external hard disk(i.e.wd elements 1tb) isn't responding.whenever I connect the hard disk to the laptop the light of the hard drive keep on blinking(which means it is connected to the laptop) but it do not show in the pc. I tried your way but nothing happened. please respond asap.

My mom dropped a laptop, thought she just damaged the screen, which would be easy enough to replace, but i hooked it to my tv and it had just a blue screen, maybe a curser be not every time, is the hard drive damaged beyond repair? Or is there a problem with the motherboard?

Feralbigdog2 kindly check if BIOS setup is being displayed more than 5 minutes, again check that if HDD is properly connected to the motherboard. After these steps, at last, try installing fresh o.s. thanks
