The new resistor that klipsch is using is. 10W 820 Ohm. It's a white rectangle. I don't know if the leads come in different lengths, but if they do, get the longer leads. It will make it easier to use.
I work fixing audio gear for a Klipsch dealer un my country. I fix tons of these subs amps. One of the most important thing is to remove this resistor and put two wires in the board, using silicone fixed 820 ohms 10 watts resistor to the head sink. I know most of the problems in these amps. 95% of the time is posible to fix them. Best Regards.
I have fixed 2 of these amps myself, but the second one i was a little bit unsure of because it didn't work for very long. So I bought an amp from klipsch for the sub. I was pretty sure I was right that these caps were the issue with these amps. Thanks for reassuring me.
I bought my speaker like 5 or 6 years ago and when my amp fails I call Klipsch and they send me a replacement free of charge. Even if it’s out of warranty I’d still call them because they might send you one also. With that being said, if I didn’t throw away the failed amps I think I’ll give it a shot like you on replacing the failed resistor(s). Helpful video thank you 🤙🏼
Wow! Mine is close to 3 years old, 2 years and 11 months... So I just sent them an email to see if they'd cover it this time. If I get them to cover it, will still have the bad unit replaced, why throw it away.
That's what I did. I didn't do a very good job on the first amp I fixed a d it started to cut out a month or two after I fixed it. So I bought a replacement a d kept the broken one for a spare. I just fixed the broken one, a couple days ago, and it's working fine. Now I have 3 amps and only 2 subs... I didn't solder the resistor very good the first time around.
Klipsch plate amps have been known for problems, mine went out three times. The first cost $125.00 to replace the amp from klipsch, the second one same cost, the third they wanted $225.00 to replace their defective amp. Had short conversation with them, but of course they denied the the issue with their amps. My response to them was have you checked with the online complaints, their response was the sound of crickets. Took time to replace a number of caps with some good quality components and have not had any more issues. All my equipment is run through a monster power monitoring system. The irony of this I have a radio shack sub I use on another system that has been in use for more than 30 years without any failures, you pay for a better component and have all these problems. In all honesty I will not purchase any additional klipsch equipment, my goto components now will be SVS.
I had a radio shack/realistic sub, it was a 10 inch powered sub. I gave it to my nephew several years ago and it was still working at that time. I bought it around 99 or 2000. I'm not sure the Klipsch components are better. Klipsch is a hit or miss, with almost all of their products.
My R-115SW starting popping three days ago. I called Klipsch the next day realizing that my warranty ran out 2 months ago. They were so nice and asked me to send my invoice and my serial number and two days later they sent me a replacement amplifier at no charge. Love when a company stands behind their products.
Lucky. I called while mine was under warranty that it was having issues. Told me to keep playing it till it went out. It went out after the warranty went out . They told me sorry. Not helping me. It's the last Klipsch item I've bought!
@@dickydoesaudio3466 they sent me new ones i have 3 replacement they last less than a year now they gave up no more free ones so i am starting a class action law suit they made a lemon amplifier they will pay one way or the other
Thanks for sharing this video. I just purchased this subwoofer and set it up on Christmas night. It worked for 2 days and then quit. Green light is still on but zero sound? Unfortunately, this was an Amazon purchase, so I received a full refund but can't return it so I will try to fix it. Hopefully it will work.
I wanted two Klipsch 15" subs that wouldn't give me any issues so I ordered 2 woofers from Speaker Exchange, built 2 cabinets from MDF and ran them off of a Crown XLS-2502. They hit so hard and drop so low, I'm rattling pictures on the wall. AT MY NEXT DOOR NEIGHBOR'S HOUSE!!!😂
I actually was working on a job site recently and found two of these klipsch SPL-150SW laying near the dumpster . The boxes were toast from this person trying to try throwing it in the dumpster. So I took it apart and let it dried for a week before I tested them . Both subs work great. One of the amp plates isn't working. I already have a ton of gear personally but why not make the place go boom boom a bit more. So in your opinion should I sell both the plates online and just upgrade to the crown or get the plate fixed? Also since I threw the boxes away I was wondering if you went ported or sealed on your build? I plan on doing it outta birch instead of MDF . Pretty cool score though. Who ever previously owned these subs were idiots, as who just throws away 2k worth in subs ?
I have the R-112 and recently it stopped working. This video is helpful cuz it gives me some direction on how to start troubleshooting. In addition to no sound coming out, were there any other signs of your SW not working correctly? Mine giving a light popping sound.
The resistor I used didn't have any stripes. Unless you're talking about the one that gets replaced?. From what I remember it had blue and tan stripes on it. Mine was pretty obvious because it was kinda burnt

Can someone please list the resistors cap or caps that I need to replace the bad ones like where to find them at and which ones I need. My amp on but no sound I’m not sure but I’m hoping it fixes it. Thanks
One of mine just died :-( I turns on, but just gives a "thumb" every second or so. With or without the signal cable connected. Did you ever find the specs of the resistor and the cap?
I didn't, but I'm actually repairing another amp right now, I'll be going out to get a resistor in the next few days, I had the guy at micro center tell me what size it was because the stripes on the resistor mean different things. I should know something more in the next few days. Please check back in a day or so. Hope I can be a bigger help then.
@@dickydoesaudio3466 Sadly this wasnt my issue, i pulled out the amp and measured the 820ohm 10watt resistor and it works as it should. I couldnt see anything else that was burned or popped :(
i have that 115 as well and When I connect my Node streamer to the Sub and the node is set to " output level fixed" then I can not use the Sub actually since immediately it starts booming immensely even with just a little bit volume on the Sub.. Is that a faulty volume adjustement knob or ???
It most likely means that when you set the Node to fixed output level, that level is very high, likely the highest it can put out. EG the equivalent of the volume knob being maxed out. Which is apparently a much hotter signal than what the sub typically expects. That is probably not the subs fault, you'd likely see almost any sub act the same way.
My amp did the same thing. It looks like the Brown capacitor with the strips blew the top off of it. I want to replace it but I don’t know the size of the capacitor or Capacitor type. It definitely looks different than the other capacitors in the amp.
Sorry to hear that.... I was able to take my caps to micro center and the employee helped me find the caps I needed... im going to go back and find out what caps I needed, and put a link to them in the description.. I hope this video helps you out. This was a big reason I started this channel, because these amps go bad on so many people, I thought I could help.
I wouldn't hesitate to buy them. I haven't seen anyone have a complaint about the amps on the newer versions. Even the older ones are hit and miss. The repair is easy to do even if the amp does fail
@@pf5658 there was a r115 in and auction close to my house and even with all the subs I already have, I didn't hesitate to bid on it. I believe it went for close to 450-500.

It wasn't for me, I bought my first one, it was b stock. It took almost 5 years before the amp went bad. I'm not sure how long the warranty is from klipsch, but I'd imagine if it was in the warranty window it would be covered.
I am trying to get the specs for this. I went to microcenter and they helped me out.....If I can get the specs, from the parts I got, I promise I will post them.
@@dickydoesaudio3466 As far as I can tell, The resister is 820 Ohms and should be 10 watts instead of 3. I am also going to use high temp RTV to glue it to one of the aluminum head sinks and run wires to it. The Cap is 330 uF 16V 105 degrees C.
Thank you for the input. I'm sure what you are doing is going to be fine. You sound like you have a pretty good idea about what you're talking about. What I did was just replaced the the cap and resistor with a soldering iron and it worked fine for me and is still working.. thanks again for the specs on the resistor .
I bought a supposedly new one on Amazon. Got it today and it was physically damaged and the power switch seemed like it had been purposely broken. The good news is that I got a refund on it.
I bought my first one through a company called onecall on ebay, it was a refurbished or open box. It had a small chunk out of the back corner but it didn't effect anything. I believe I got for 750. That was around a year after they came out.
You can probably find them on Amazon, I was able to find them locally at Micro Center... if you search your area I bet you can find someone who has them in stock.
I'm sorry I don't have anymore information for you right now. I took the peices with me and had one of the employees help find what I needed. If you know the size of the cap or resistor that is needed can you find it on Amazon. Again I apologize.
I bought my Klipsch speakers over 20 years ago when they were made in the U.S., IF they fail I will not be buying Klipsch again, they are junk now since moving manufacturing to China...absolute Junk. They sound great but use cheap components....like 5 dollar blue tooth speaker cheap. I will not spend top dollar on cheap crap
I'm very disappointed with Klipsch because less than 6 months 3 out of My 4 subs Amps went out already and I don't even abuse My system and VERY low hours of use 🤨🤨
