How to Repair or Restore Honda S2000, Acura Integra or NSX Leather Seats

Detailed video showing how to remove your S2000 seats, break them down and perform patch, leather restoration, and repair of your leather seats. I am using Leather World Technologies products, but there are many other leather restoration products out there. I am demonstrating technique vs pushing a product and trying to save you some $$ by DIY. The foam and fabric material are available online or at your local fabric store. For spray adhesive, I use 3M Spray Trim Adhesive, heavy duty. Scotch also makes a similar Trim adhesive spray. The foam I used was 0.5" thick medium density and can be found on Amazon or eBay.
Suitable for Acura, Porsche, BMW, and Corvette owners. Please skip around to the area of interest. The process takes days as you have to let the product dry, so be prepared to be without your seat(s) for several days. It won't look as good as a professionally installed New OEM leather seat cover, but mine turned out well and onlookers think the seats are now in great shape. I did both seats for less than $150 in materials, going the pro route would have been 7X that in California. It's worth a try-take your time and experiment with the gloss finish (yes, you can mix.) I do not monetize my videos, so any advertisements were not requested by me. Good Luck!

Great DIY! Touching up my s2000 and bought new seats to replace my ripped ones. Really great DIY for anyone doing replacing/reupholstering!

Thanks for the kind words. I found a pair of cracked seats on CL and fixed the cracks and resold them. The buyer was pretty happy because his seats had holes and the foam was worn away to the frame.

Fantastic, just take your time and when replacing the foam, use care in shaping it similar to the other side if working on the bolsters. That's key to getting that smooth look.

Thanks a lot. This video is an excellent resource for the future, so much that i saved it just in case the internet dies 😅

Haha, hope the internet doesn't die. Glad you found it helpful. I recently sold the S2000 and these seats held up very well. The key is to keep wiping them down with the Top Coat that Leather World Technologies sell (Low Gloss) as it creates a transparent skin that really protects the fill and coloring work you perform on these seats. If you give a quick wipe of Top Coat every 3-4 months (especially the outer bolsters), your restoration will last a long time. Good Luck!

Wow I watched this so many times, great work, I tried getting shops around me to re-store my 07” S2000 seats, can you re-store for me? I can send some pictures mines are just as bad as these?
@SirFixAlotAutos

Thanks for asking, but I've got way too many projects of my own to do it for anyone else. The key here is to get the product, tools (mostly hog-ring stuff) and material lined up and start with your passenger seat. Take your time, practice dismantling and assembly even in areas that don't need work, and work in sections. The second seat you work on will come out nicer than your first, but that's ok. Good Luck!

Thanks for the quick reply, I’m researching now, and I’m going to drive an hour a away to a shop in Orlando. They have before and after pictures, and good reviews. It looks looks like they can tackle this job. I just need the driver seat repaired, passenger is like new. I do mechanical and electrical work. I’m afraid to do upholstery, the AP2 seats are really hard to find. I just hate people touching my cars, I had really bad experiences. I learned the hard way to work on cars. You seem like you really know what you doing that’s why I reached out.

Great video and a great result! Thank you for making it and sharing. I wish I had the courage to do this myself to the red seats in my S2000. My concern would be colour matching - I imagine black is a little more forgiving than red?
@SirFixAlotAutos
@SirFixAlotAutos 3 года назад
Yes, black is more forgiving than red. That being said red and tan are both doable and would probably look better than the cracks in the seat I imagine are present. Leatherworld technologies have a color matching service if you send in a piece of your seat material (there is excess once you break the seat bottom down.) Give them a call and they'll walk you through the process. Once you patch any holes and smooth out the cracks and apply the dye, the real key with lighter color seats is the sheen of the top-coat. You may have to experiment in mixing semi-gloss and gloss to find that perfect Honda factory look. This is a bit like bodywork, you can apply coats and then remove coats by sanding. You also need to take the time to get the surface really smooth before applying color and top-coats. I completed my two seats over 3 weekends. Give it a try, the worst that can happen is you spend $150 trying, the best that could happen is you save $1500+ from avoiding the re-upholstery shop. Let me know how it goes,.

@@SirFixAlotAutos Thanks Dan, I'll look into Leatherworld! I did have a repair completed a year ago by a mobile leather repair guy but the cracks have reappeared. I also like the idea of fixing up the foam within the bolsters as these were shot on the drivers side when I bought the car 2 years ago. In the short term I didn't realise you can simply swap the drivers side out for the passenger side which could provide some short term benefit

is the perforated part on the lower seat glued/stitched/stapled onto the foam? i had a spill in my seat and the smell is proving to be a bit harder to get rid of than intended (trying to not go to a detailer)
@SirFixAlotAutos
@SirFixAlotAutos 2 года назад
The perforated part (cover) is hog ringed into place. There is a thin foam pad that is stitched (might also be glued)into place giving structure to the leather/vinyl, but I think you were asking about how the cover around the perforated area is attached and kept in place (hog rings.) If you spilled something, the spill might have gotten into the foam below, in which case you would need to replace (or wash) that too. Good Luck!

@@SirFixAlotAutos Thanks, i figured i was going to have to clean the foam. Just wanted to see if it was something i'd be able to reach without having to reupholster the seat

I was wincing through out the video waiting for that glass table to explode. I had it happen to me, dropped a screw driver and it landed right on the point. Table shattered into a million pieces.

Foam, I just found it on eBay, it's a medium-density upholstery foam. I ordered it in 0.5" thickness and layered it if I needed it to be thicker. The 3M Trim adhesive spray works well, but I think Scotch also sells a good trim adhesive spray. Good Luck!
