Man, what a comprehensive redo and a great job executing. Love the "J" roller to help press that roofing material onto the substrate. Awesome work.

Now that you have finished the pop camper. Can you let us know how you handled the roof covers with the rubber membrane. I'll be doing a roof replacement on my 95' starcraft starflyer this same way you have.

I'm working on a camper that's going to need 12'+ sides. I've watch other videos where they purchase lumber that's 14' long and trim to fit, but I love the idea of splicing together plywood to get that length. Mostly because it's easier for me to transport than a couple of 14' boards. Did you do anything special on the areas of the sides that are butt jointed together? I was thinking about biscuit jointing them.
@FakeLegGreg
@FakeLegGreg 3 года назад
I used a small separate piece of plywood to cover the splice on the inside. Biscuit joining may work too. Good luck.

Loved watching this! I am about to attempt a complete rebuild of my 97 Jayco J-series 1406 roof. I have a question for you however. I have seen these superflex roofs and am concerned if I use this that it will puncture. I also have been impressed with some other videos out there that use a roll on coating like truck bed coatings or others. From my understanding, you cannot use any other products on top of this superflex. Do you have any recommendations or druthers that you personally found in your research to nudge me one way or the other in the final finish of the roof material? Thanks, and nice work!!
@FakeLegGreg
@FakeLegGreg 3 года назад
Truck bed coating is not a sealer, it's to prevent scratching and skidding in the truck bed. It also covers imperfections. The coating is heavy. I guess the rubber membrane could puncture but if it punctures being glued down, you probably have more damage than just a puncture. This membrane has also been on my 2014 travel trailer since new, no punctures. Thanks for watching.

Hey man, this video is extremely helpful. Only have a couple questions: how did you negotiate the corners with the rubber, and what did you end up using to trim it out after the rubber skin was secured?
@FakeLegGreg
@FakeLegGreg 2 года назад
Thanks. The corners are about glue, clamp, and stretch. Curves and corners are a hassle. You can also strategically make a diagonal cut from the outside edge to the corner and do an overlap. I would suggest practicing the cuts with paper or spare clothe first. Good luck.

What a great video! I wish we could do this with our pop up but we only have one small spot on the side of the roof where it’s rotting. It’s about 2’x2’ section. I’m wondering if there is a way to just replace that spot ?
@FakeLegGreg
@FakeLegGreg 3 года назад
Thanks for watching. You can just replace that spot but you have to reinforce the attachment of the patch. Sometimes it is just easier to rebuild the whole top rather than try to patch. Some people do get away with patching though. Good luck with your repair.

What about added weight to lift system
@FakeLegGreg

I am not sure of your question? The quick answer is don't add weight to the lift system.

Since I had no idea of what to do, it took me a couple of weeks, part time. The top could be completed in a week.

Enjoying your videos. I acquired a 1982 Skamper two years ago and begun a rebuild. Even started some video on the process for eventual RU-vid channel. Mine was in much better shape than yours, but the roof was trashed and constructed the same way yours was. The bottom half seems to be in pretty good shape - needs new canvas, but the current one seems to be functional. I live in Massachusetts in a house that was built around 1850, so they did not plan for a garage. Everything I do has to be done outside, thus a bit slower progress than yours. Roof rebuild was in process when I put it to bed for the winter of 2019 and was unable to work on it during 2020. So I have questions. I considered altering the roof to include a slight top curve for water drainage purposes, but wasn/t sure how to go about doing that. How much offset does yours have from the center to the sides? Can you give us a hint as to how that was accomplished? What was the process of patterning the center hump? Also did you have to do somethihg in the center of the roof to maintain the curve from front to back. Future videos = hwhat is your plan for the corners?
@FakeLegGreg
@FakeLegGreg 3 года назад
My top curves side to side. No curve front to back. The curve is just 1 inch drop from the middle peak to each side. I made a template out of cardboard and traced it on the front and rear roof sides. In the middle you can see 2 crossmembers around the vent hole. Both of those crossmembers have the same curve on them. Still thinking about the corners. Good luck on your project. Thanks for watching.

Watched the roof repair on jauco popup. You put plywood on top with 1x2 frame. What did you use for inside roof? Question. Would this not add a lot of weight for cables lifting roof? Mine has cable. Afraid of to much weight. Your thoughts.
@FakeLegGreg
@FakeLegGreg 3 года назад
Mine is cable lift too. I used 1/8 plywood on the top an don the inside. Some of these popups are designed to lift tops with A/C and that adds a lot of weight. My top weighs very close to original.

@@FakeLegGreg did you not have to put plywood on top then rubber? Also new insulation plus took inside. My roof is fiberglass, then foam,then luan roof for inside Seems yours have roof out and then took in..correct? Ths for return email I want mine as nice as yours!

@@jimkeeling Mine is 1/8 plywood, 1 inch foam, and the thin rubber sheet over the plywood. I don't think it weighed much different than the plywood, foam insulation, and aluminum skin that was on it before. Good luck with yours.

Thanks for watching. Well....at this time i havent done anything more than the video. I have been literally frozen out of the shop in north texas. We have rolling blackouts and temps in the single digits. We are not equipped for this. It looks like a week or so before we get back to our nornal winter. The corners will have to be addressed. Its probably the next video. Thanks for asking.
