Those diodes were connected in parallel. Not sure how you faked it but you can’t test an individual diode in that case. You would have to remove and test each individually.
I don't think he faked it, just look at the diodes move when he probes them, this looks like a rather poor design and the top/bottom diodes were just making very little if any connection.
I have ever seen solar panel where the diodes were connected three series sets and then connected parallel.when ever I tested the diode when still on solar ,some shows open loop but after removing it from solar panel and tested it shows it is good. The problem is the solar giving out low current resulting in to low power output
great video I get the end point, few steps missed. you showed testing the string that was shorted, I guess you just missed the part where you should have shown individual testing on each bypass diode. people must remember if you change these the silver strip of the diode is the cathode side this always goes to positive side, current flows from anode to cathode. remember if replacing bypass diodes take into consideration of the desired voltage of a series pv system and the amount of amps flowing through these. 25% extra for amps or nearest option is advised, more is better for life of these.
He shorted the schotkey diodes dead shorting out a section of power cells. Those are bypass diodes that prevent shaded cells blocking current flow. You can't test each diode unless you remove leg connection.
Weldone engr. Thanks for this clip it will help me. I have a panel not charging. I thought its a big deal to fix with money and d stress. But with this I will go get diode. But what are the units of this diodes
having worked on some super shitty cheap solar panels (I'm looking at you Windy Nation) I can totally appreciate this beautiful piece of machinery those diodes are really easy to replace so soldering required, nice!
Whats the rating of diodes in normal 250/260watts panels?...i have some poor performing panels at a remote location, i intend to visit the location soon and to attempt this repair, so want to go there with the diodes and not do a roundtrip twice
Where can I get me a 50 Amp solar panel with a charge control and something that can detect a short circuit. Can a 2,000w solar panel work for a jumpstarter to get more watts to power stuff ?

or belter said, if one diode is short then all diodes parralel with the faulty diode will be short also. you need to remove and test each diode individually.
yes, but now consider them in series-parallel connection; that is each two in series then combine the series into parallel. This will increase volatage and current. Ensure that the voltage of each solar panels are equal. Have your 24v charge controller with you.
I am a little confused about the meter scale used and the connections as you seem to have no connection on the common connecter? For some measurements.

A diode is a semiconductor device that essentially acts as a one-way switch for current. It allows current to flow easily in one direction, but severely restricts current from flowing in the opposite direction.
Putting parallel diodes !!! I expect better from German engineering. Putting six discrete diodes in parallel will almost alway not distribute current uniformly across the parallel diodes. First, the diodes have to be precisely matched.. Not likely with discrete diodes. If lucky the parts came from same wafer, preferably adjacent diode die from fabbed wafer location. Second, the parts have to be tightly heat sunk together so they are all at exactly same temperature. As diode heats up its forward voltage drop is reduced so it will take more of the current from other slightly cooler diodes, causing it to get hotter. Run-away effect causing hottest diode to take most of current and get even hotter. Leaded diodes provide poor heat sinking capability. For bypass diodes it is better to use TO220 or similar packaged diodes with additional metal (electrically isolated) heat sinking. Single heat sunk diode for each bypass diode. Packaged part with dual diode in single package okay to parallel as they are likely well matched and tied to same heat sink base of package. When a panel is partially shaded a bypass diode can have upwards of 5 watts of heat to dissipate. A leaded part gets blistering hot. This panel is unusual with five bypass sections. Looks like done across short row pairs instead of long column pairs. Better for reducing drop out for partial shading as less series cells are taken out for bypass section.
Your way of testing is problematic since you didnt remove the diodes legs it still is polluted from the circuit....and also you didnt trace the flow of circuit you just pretend that it is as it is...

@@NaveedZahirCreativity no mate. meter is only rated to 10A you have set it on the 20ma scale but because you are using the 10A lead port it defaults to 10 amp scale.
