@uFixTek
@uFixTek Год назад
If you don't use thermal putty and instead use thermal paste on your components, you risk damaging the board, causing your VRAMs and power regulator components to overheat quickly, leading to sudden shutdowns. The reason why thermal putty is necessary in this case is because: thermal putty is a thicker and more malleable substance, similar to a clay or putty. It is applied by placing a small amount on the surface of the component. The putty is able to fill in larger gaps and surface imperfections that the thermal paste cannot. On the other hand, Thermal paste is a thin, fluid-like substance that is spread over the surface of the component using a brush or a syringe. It is designed to fill in microscopic gaps between the heat sink and the component, allowing for better heat transfer.

Hi, I have the same laptop. When on performance mode I've been hitting 95°C (cpu, gpu is around 70) when gaming and after two years of never cleaning the device I was hoping to remove a lot of dust from the fans. But it was almost perfectly clean (so it won't realy impact cooling performance). I still have to order some thermal paste to redo that. But I was thinking. Liquid metal should normaly do a better job at cooling than thermal paste. Would I not decrease the cooling performance if I replace the liquid metal with thermal paste? Did you have a before and after comparising for the laptop in the video?

Thank you for your feedback! If you wish to support the channel, you can like, subscribe, or both! Regarding your question, I would highly recommend replacing the LM with Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut Extreme thermal paste. Based on tests, it performs just as well as LM, but it has the added advantage of maintaining its effectiveness over the long run. Unlike LM, which creates a thin layer that can dry up after a few months, thermal paste will remain stable and keep its effectiveness. This is especially important in preventing any seal cracks caused by vibrations, which can lead to undesirable results (like the issues you're currently facing). By opting for thermal paste, you'll likely have a more satisfactory experience. amzn.to/450H7C0 Should you have any further questions or requests in the future, please don't hesitate to ask me.

Hallo. After cleaning and replacing the thermal paste (the warranty has long expired), my laptop stopped turning on, namely the battery indicator is fine, the power indicator does not light up, the "in airplane" indicator lights up during startup, then the disk activity indicator lights up for a moment and then the display turns on, but it doesn't show anything. also the radiators heat up over time and sometimes the blowers start. Please tell me what happened and how I can fix it? For my part, I can say that it is far from the first time I change the thermal paste and I was very careful, I disconnected the battery before the procedure.

Regarding your question, do the following exactly as i mention: -remove the bottom cover -Disconnect the battery (charger too) -remove both rams -open the laptop 90 degree and place it on its side, press and hold the power on for 60 sec - place ONLY one ram near the cpu slot -without the battery connected , connect the charger and press power on and wait for 10-15sec if you get image then power off (unplug the charger), else to to #2 step -plug in the 2nd ram and power on, and if you get screen, power off and plug in the battery -enjoy #2. same steps but hold the power on for up to 2min, and if you place the 1st ram and no POST then use the other ram, keep me posted.

@@uFixTek I will be very grateful. I was already thinking of taking the laptop for repair. But if I am able to fix it myself that would be great! Moreover, I have a multimeter and will be able to check faulty components if necessary. Although I don't really understand how to do it. I can say that I wiped and smeared the thermal paste several times because I thought that I had damaged something or smeared it somewhere. And when I tried to solve it for the first time and wiped the thermal paste, the laptop turned on and even got stuck at the login screen, but it quickly turned off (probably due to overheating). After that, nothing changed and I doubt that this launch could have harmed him because the symptoms are not different.

@@uFixTek Hi! I have just cleaned and repasted my rog, and it wasnt a smooth ride. At first, i did not know there are 2 different substances so i cleaned it all and replaced everything with thermal paste. Cleaned everything, applied paste just to the cpu and the vgu as you do, and adding 1.5 mm thermal pads to everything else. Now it turns on, but as soon as I load up a game, it turns immeadiately off as I would unplug it from electricity. You mention here and in another comment as well that pads are problematic as the gap is neither 0.5 nor 1 mm. Is this what im seeing? @uFixTek
@uFixTek 10 месяцев назад
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback! If you're interested in supporting the channel, you have the option to like, subscribe, or even do both! Addressing your feedback, indeed, a portion of the heatsink contains gallium. We've have opened numerous (many many...) laptops where liquid metal (LM) comes into direct contact with copper heatsinks. Personally, I've conducted tests involving the application of LM onto a copper heatsink on both personal laptops and those of clients. Over a span of 3 to 5 years, we've observed no instances of corrosion occurring on the copper heatsink. With a simple polishing process, the surface reverts to its original state of pure copper. As a testament to the longevity of this approach, we recently performed maintenance on two laptops where LM was applied two years prior. After utilizing copper cleaner to clean the heatsinks, they remained in flawless condition.
@Peter2k84
@Peter2k84 6 месяцев назад
@@uFixTek the silver part of the heatsink will be Nickel plated. The LM will react with copper over time, depending on the particualr mix the manufacturer uses (from the LM). It usually only "discolors" the copper, but only a few microns in really, but the LM can harden out over time (as in form an alloy of a kind). Thats what users in the desktop space always afraid of, though isn't an issue as long as the PC is not moved around (the hardened out bond still provides extremly good performance, but if there is stress on it, there might be a crack in the formed alloy -> terrible temps). For instance and extremely high performing air cooler->very heavy cooler. Never heard of that for liquid cooling (i.e. not really a lot of weight on the cooler mounting). Been doing LM for Desktops for a long time now, with Nickel plated and bare copper coolers. Kind of bummed Asus is leaving the GPU with normal paste and no Nickel plated cooler option.....

No friend. Do not use liquid metal on the GPU, as it does not come with factory protection (that white mass and foam that he removed from the CPU), which prevents the liquid metal from flowing. As it is conductive, if it drips onto any part of the board outside the protection it will certainly kill the notebook. The GPU also does not come with the ideal metal for contact, it is made of copper. Copper is more complicated, the first application of liquid metal to copper generates a chemical reaction and a second application must be made. I personally don't understand why he made the decision to remove the factory protections for the use of liquid metal on the CPU (now it will no longer be possible to use liquid metal). And no, that metal in the CPU structure is not aluminum, you cannot use liquid metal on aluminum.
@impaugjuldivmax
@impaugjuldivmax 6 месяцев назад
because he is a complete idiot, just take a look how he touches the motherboard and how unprofessional the whole system was disassembled. every rookie knows that you can not use liquid metal with copper, therefore this gpu can only be covered with a thermal paste. by the way cleaning off the liquid metal out of cpu made it hotter +10C.

@uFixTek
@uFixTek 8 месяцев назад
I made the replacement as per my client's request. Additionally, the liquid metal (LM) in these models tends to dry up quickly, leading to cracked seals and poor temp results. I highly recommend replacing it with Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut Extreme, amzn.to/3LP02bJ You will achieve similar results with only a -2°C difference in temperature, and this thermal paste will last significantly longer than LM. We've extensively tested it in personal laptops and with clients, and the results are vastly superior-approximately 800% better. Moreover, there is no risk of a short circuit or LM spill due to laptop impacts when carrying it in a bag.
