Have you struggled attempting to replace and align the input jacks on your classic Fender amp? Well, I did too, until I figured out this easy technique. Simply reverse the jacks, mount on the front panel, wire your components, after soldering, they will have perfect spacing for the normal install. It just hot me that maybe some of you were not aware of this little trick. Lately my watchers and subs have been increasing. That really makes me happy, as I have been at this for quite some time. Thank to all for supporting my shop. It is a good feeling knowing I am appreciated. TD
PS: These jacks and Filter capacitor can be purchased from Amplified Parts. They have excellent customer service and fast shipping. www.amplifiedp...

Some of the best tips are so simple and elegant. Why didn’t I think of that? That input jack tip is great, thanks!

Hello Terry!! That tip about wiring the jacks that way first before permanent install is a great idea!!! that method could also be used to wire potentiometers or selector switches should that need present itself in future projects that have tight internal spaces like these amps do have!!!! Great idea !!!

FWIW .. I like to use RG-174 coax for the shielded cable to the input jacks. It has a small diameter and is easy to dress 😁

As a guitarist of 60 years, I was playing back in the days when not every player had an amp. I am convinced that Leo understood this, and that often, two guitars played through the same amp. Since chords are louder than single note lead lines, it was necessary to reduce the volume level of the rhythm guitar, hence the resistors on the second input of each Fender amp channel. Just my opinion, of course; but since I am a "know it all," you can bet I'm completely wrong!

About 10 years ago, a friend asked me if I could replace the input jacks on his Fender. (as I recall, it was a late90s or early 2000s Concert model). My friend is a very well known guitarist in this area, and knows most amp techs personally. He told me that he took the amp to a few different techs, and none of them would even take the job, so he asked me. I accepted the job, and then found out why no one wanted the job. To access the jacks, the entire circuit board had to come out, which included removing the tube sockets from the chassis. The tube sockets were not soldered directly to the board, but, instead, had short wires between the socket and the board, complicating the process. The labor charge (at that time) would have been around $150.00; to replace two $5.00 parts.

Good to hear you use a guitar to test with. You don't need to know how to play and it's a much better sound source than a signal generator. Nicely done. 🙂

Love the channel. I have sort of a silly question. I've got a ten year old home theater in a box and one of the channels will spontaneously crackle like crazy. Turn it off and on again and the crackle stops... for a time. While I'd love to have the excuse to upgrade, I think that the issue is likely just some dirty or corroded connections. (It sounds like the sound that you'd hear when your guitar pots are dirty and you turn the knobs - but there aren't any knobs - just spontaneous crackle.) What's the proper way to clean connections. The only troubleshooting that I did was to plug a different speaker into the channel with the crackle, and it's the channel, not the speaker. We're not talking lovely vintage gear - just dirty old gear.

I've been using that method for years! (Actually, no I haven't. And I feel like a dope for not having thought if it myself.)

Great idea always curious about speaker jack wiring also this will work the same way for those if you ever get round to it perhaps show how the speaker jacks are correctly wired also. Terry I am trying to reach you via email had a question about voltage at bias board and some other questions. ive followed your other videos about bassman and purchased the same meter to be able to make correct selections in testing voltage and - bias at board and pin 5.. The videos are very helpful.

Hello. Ever since Whites metal detectors have gone out of business, it's difficult finding parts. Is there a part number for the TDI Pro on/off Gain Switch or a generic switch I can use? What is the part called a rotary switch 12 volt with on/off? Can a non tech person do the repair for a switch like that or should I send tbhe whole unit for repair? It doesnt look to hard to do but I havent opened the detector. Thank you so much for any help.

Why would changing preamp plate resistors from 100k to 220k up the gain? Wouldn't a 100k allow more voltage to the plate from the power supply node and 220k limit voltage?
