A no-frills step-by-step video showing you how to replace a radiator on a 2005 Pontiac GTO, which is the same as the 2006 model, and similar to the 2004 model. Included in the video are both general and GTO-specific tips that will make the job faster, easier, and safer.

I bought a 2006 GTO because of your channel. I always wanted one but knew I would have to work on it a lot myself and parts could be an issue. I'm glad I bought it because its the most fun I've ever had driving a car. I already replaced the headlight assembly, trunk lifts and interior lights using your videos.

Wow, that's really cool! I never thought my videos would have that much of a decision-making impact on anyone, and I'm particularly glad that decision ended up being a positive one! I definitely need to get mine back on the road. It's been far too long since I've had that driving experience, which is the most fun I've had driving a street car, too. Have you seen the video I made on the top problems these GTOs have? Definitely a few preventative things worth doing to keep the experience from going sour. Glad it's going well for you, and I'll definitely get back to making GTO videos when I get back from the trip I'm on.

@@CarsSimplified yeah I checked out the known issues video before I bought. I spent a good 2 weeks researching before I bought mine to be sure because it wasn't a small purchase. It's also not something I can drive 5 months of the year here in Michigan so I didn't want a headache summer car and an auto loan if it wasn't worth it. I was lucky enough to get mine in mint condition at a classic car dealership in Phoenix AZ. I drove it from Phoenix to MI over 3 days. It was a blast. The car is mint. I looked at the wire harness on the passenger side and its completely fine. I wrapped it in a rubber just in case later on it rubs. I also had the known ignition key issue. I replaced my ignition assembly and it still didn't work. Turns out a magnet fixed it. The magnet keeps the key release disengaged since the parts aren't made anymore. I came up with that one on my own. My ignition is probably smoother than most GTOs now. My springs are shot though. I have a Pedders kit bookmarked to install but I'm gonna have to pay for that. It's beyond my comfort zone. I flushed all fluids, put in Torco diff fluid with the additive and I have zero gear whine now. I have LED headlamps and aftermarket Alpine stereo and speakers so between the engine and my sound system I can't hear anything lol. Appreciate you channel though. It's helped me save a lot in labor costs and hassle of giving my car to shops for 1 to 2 days at a time.

Can you tell me the proper way to get the air out, I have the 06 GTO and I just had to replace the top radiator hose, it got a little too close to the top pully(ouch). Thanks

Oh yeah, I missed a bit, though I think the puddle at that point in the video is a few months old, from back when the GTO first overheated. Good catch, though!

Where is my reservoir for my coolant on my 2005 ? It's not in the same location as the 04 and I would love to know where it's all being stored

I replaced the gto radiator with a denso... I was wondering when it reaches operating temp does the your upper hose get really close to the powersteering pump? Also replace the upper hose with gates if you can give me your feed back it would be great.

Yikes, those are going to be tough, I haven't seen them anywhere. If they are as exclusive to the GTO chassis as I suspect, I would start with the dealer (with low expectations), then try your luck with junk yards (may have to cast a wide net), and the most likely source will be Australia. The Holden version of this car ran many more years and had more affordable engine options, so they are more likely to have a supply available.

Cars Simplified yeah the dealer told me they were discontinued and all the junkyards near me don’t have gtos. I think Holden is my next and last option. They’re definitely impossible to find, i dont know why the previous owner didn’t put them back on. Anyway thanks for the help!

I may have to remove it for a project down the road, so if it comes to that, I'll definitely make a video. Or if it goes bad on mine, which may happen due to it working extra hard every time I started it up with that super dead battery I had in it.

Love your videos man. For real. I’ve watched almost everyone that has to do with the GTO. It helps me out a lot. Especially to get a hands on learning experience to fix & maintain the car. You may not get this a lot from anyone, but I appreciate what you do the time and effort you put into this definitely helps people like me who have the same car. So thank you very much. I just changed the alternator, but it was pretty difficult. Not enough space. I had to lift to radiator fan, and squeeze through the power steering lines. It was quite a bit of work for 2 hours.

The front bumper definitely has a few screws on the bottom and in the wheel well; I just made the bumper removal it's own video so I wouldn't have to film that part every time I take it off.

What was your experience with the Denso radiator?

Fit just like OEM and I haven't had any trouble with it since, but I haven't put many miles on it due to other issues unrelated to the cooling system.

The suspension was in bad shape, and while I've gotten a lot of that fixed, it still needs an emissions test and plates to be able to drive it on public roads.

I wanted to get one of those, as well as their radiator hoses, but I was on a tight budget at the time.
