Thanks man. People were telling me I had to hire a contractor rip up my hardwood floors upstairs to replace my bathroom fan and after watching this video, got mine out myself.

Your 4 year old video is still helping people. I replace all 3 of my fans. 2 with just new motors and one with a whole new fan and box. Thanks for the video

This fan works very well. ru-vid.comUgkx7yWIKcrbA9KMHkGSfcgxW2lsjHT6B8Sh I replaced my old fan as our radon levels began to spike. When I remove the old fan water poured out of the fan. Must have entered in through the out spout. Replaced with this unit and levels dropped a bit but still over 4.0.Did some more digging and found that we had a small hole under our waste pipe that was allowing some water and radon in.Patched the hole and the levels dropped almost overnight.I really would recommend the radon sensor. It gives real time readings. Without it we would have never known that we had this issue.

I'm stuck at the "pushing the lever away from center of fan". The video didn't show that! What part is that? Thank you!

With the fan mounted in a ceiling (not loose in a panel) you may need to use a pry bar to pry the outside box to release the tab.

Very helpful. I was about to go into my crawl space and try to rewire the whole assembly. Much easier and cost only $30 vs. $130.

Excellent video and FYI, you do not have to turn off any power source because there's no wires to be connected or disconnected. Notice the two power plugs.

My fan is 60yrs old, completely rusted, attic is very shallow and full of asbestos insulation, should I just burn it down and collect the insurance.

Should have mentioned that not all fans are this simple, nor easy to replace from below. Nor do all fans provide an easily removable inside motor assembly. I've replaced a couple of these low CFM volume fans and the process matches what you state, but to replace an existing low CFM noisy fan with one that is quieter (and may be larger) may require MUCH MORE work and effort than this video implies/shows. People who are not really DIYer's may get in over their head quickly if they try to follow this and end up scratching their heads, and/or ruining the existing fan or messing up the fan shroud and/or ceiling.

yeah.. this video is disappointing. I am not trying to replace the noisy crap with another noisy crap. I want to replace with a nice fan that actually moves air. That requires removing the metal box the motor/fan sits in. I am having trouble with that, this video says NOTHING about that.

Great info! I was dreading having to crawl up in the attic amongst 2 ft of insulation. What kind & where do I send you a case of beer?

I am replacing my bathroom room fan. The shaft on the new fan is 1/4 inch longer than the old one and will not fit in the ceiling housing. Any suggestions? Can I just cut it down to size and gorilla glue the fan to the shaft?

Problem I have is my fan works but cold air is pouring through the unit into the half bath. Should there be a flap that opens and closes the duct that I can check and repair?

I was wondering how I was going to fix my downstairs, 22 year old, bathroom fan. It was making a horrible noise every time I turned it on. After watching your video, I was able to take it out, clean it, and use some WD40. Works just like new. Thanks!

WD-40 isn’t really a lubricant. It works like one for about six months to a year and then starts gumming up and instead of lubricating, it instead, acts as an impediment. I would suggest taking it back out and using liberty oil for electric motors.

I can't get the pan out.. its frustrating bcz the motor runs, but the fan isn't working and probably just needs to be cleaned.. but I can't get at it so I'll probably have to call someone to come do it for me.. the inner pan doesn't budge an wen I pull on it , the entire box is being pulled, not just the inner pan and with enough force I might just pull the entire unit out.. so I won't do that just yet.. I'm so close and I want to do it myself.. uhg

I've seen many videos for replacing ceiling fan parts, motors, etc. Shouldn't something be turned off before doing all this? Circuit breaker perhaps?
@abbyshuler5985
@abbyshuler5985 9 лет назад
you can turn off the circuit breaker if you want to, i usually pull the main instead of flipping the breaker because my house is wired funny and i'm a scardey cat. but if the fan is unplugged there is no source of electricity.

Would have loved seeing close up of removing the inside housing tabs to get that out of the main housing. Otherwise gave me the idea I might can replace ours.

You said there was a tray needing to be manipulated for removing the fan, then neglected to provide a closeup of exactly what part was meant.
@KCOber
@KCOber 6 лет назад
I couldn't figure that out either, but found on Broan's website a Q&A that said this, which made it easy to remove: "To remove the fan assembly, find the single tab on the motor plate (located next to the receptacles). Push up near motor plate tab while pushing out on side of housing. Or insert a straight-blade screwdriver into the slot in housing (next to tab) and twist the screwdriver."
@Lacronh
@Lacronh 5 лет назад
I too could not see how he did that since there was no close up and that is where I'm stuck. I cannot figure out how to get that part out.

Just pliers? Yes, you start with pliers, but then the video cuts to a close-up showing you using an adjustable wrench! .... No biggie - just funny.

i have to agree with Cheryl below, unless im missing something, the house wiring that is connected to the fan...the circuit breaker should be turned off and the wiring re-done with the new stuff...again, unless im missing something here...

That’s great when your sitting on a chair , not working at the ceiling cutting enlarging or filling in areas of drywall you start with perfect materials and all new equipment. Just a week video not helpful at all. I’ll use this on my next mock bath fan install with no roof access. The title to this video is completely false and misleading.
