I replaced the old laser (which could read CD games, but not DVD ones) with a new one off from ebay and it would read DVD games, but not CD ones so I just returned it and tried with a new one from Amazon. Sadly I just ended up screwing up one of the ribbon cables attached to the drive mechanism, so rn I am waiting for the new replacement and playing my old games on PC lmao. Hope this thing works with the replacement dawg
I get replacement lasers from Amazon for about $20. They work about 75% of the time for CD and DVD games. If they don’t work I’m able to send them back for a replacement or refund and they only take about 1-2 days with Amazon Prime if that’s available to you.
The solder is touching three different contacts which shorts the laser. Until you remove the solder and separate the contacts the laser will not operateZ
Hi, thanks taking the time to put this together. Nice job and presentation. I followed the steps but I didn't do something correctly. When I tried to test, and powered on, the lense didn't stop moving up on the control bar. It's like the bracket on the right of the lenses isn't connected properly to the control bar or the lenses doesn't detect when it's needs to move back. Not sure if you have experienced something like that before.
Hi, good video. Do you think it's a good idea to replace the ribbon cable at this time? Considering many slim consoles ribbons scratch discs? I just bought a used 90001 series off eBay and it is leaving rings on many of my pristine discs. Thanks so much 👍👍
Thank you for the kind words! You can definitely replace the ribbon cable if you’d like. It’s more than likely scratching the disc because it’s sticking up too far from the surface. You can try taping done the ribbon cable slightly. Make sure the laser can still fully move all the way forward and back however.
Hello my friend, I have a playstation 2, brand scph 77004. I was surprised that it does not play discs, do you think what is the solution, should I replace the lens
@@videogameexpert41 I am from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and there are no stores that sell the PlayStation 2 lens, it must be ordered from ebay. Thank you, my friend 🌹
So I have a question so I want to play a game and all I have been able to get is it says reading disc how long should it take and is that really true for the game disc to take a long time to read
@@videogameexpert41 because I got a new game tmnt mutant Meelee and it says pal what does that mean and wher can I find the game tmnt mutant meele for the ps2 that is in the usa
@@thecrtggamingchannel1727 you can definitely trying cleaning the lens first. Just be very careful and make sure you don’t push down too hard or scratch it at all.
@@hafihashim if it’s spinning but not reading, the laser is going out. There are two different lasers. One reads PS1 and blue PS2 Discs. The other laser reads clear PS2 games. When the lasers go out they usually stop playing one or the other and can still play the others just fine.
@@videogameexpert41 how can i know if the laser is the problem because i could see it blinks when i touch the sensor , but my disc are very old so what do you think the problem is ?
@@hafihashim even though the laser is unable to, it will still try and read the disc. Over time the laser becomes weak and will not read discs any longer.
