Just replaced my wife's on the exact same car at 320k. Original starter was on it and I'd been tapping on it for the last 6 months here and there. It's a great Colorado snow car and grocery getter for us being off grid so I just keep it going as long as i can. Same with my 96 Impreza. Both great cars.
After 18 minutes... the suspense is killing me. Did you loosen the lower stater bolt from above or below? Did the starter come out from above or below?
I got it loose from above, it’s a very hard angle to work from underneath the car. I actually broke the starter off of the bolt before that bolt came loose, pretty sure it was held on with some sort of adhesive. WD-40 did the trick in the end. The starter came out the top
@@thewanderingwolf7583 I’m glad you posted this video. I need to change my starter tomorrow and it’s not obvious which is the easiest way to go- top or bottom. I have over 300,000 miles on my 98 and this will be my first starter change. I have a great day!
