For daily updates, definitely follow me on Instagram: Instagram.com/ChrisFixit The Dream Car video is coming but because it is a very special video for me, I want to make sure it is amazing, so it is taking a little longer than I thought to film and edit (you will see why when it comes out). In the meantime, I filmed and edited this water pump video to bridge the gap. I actually edited this video during my 2 week long road trip where I had meet-ups for you guys in Cincinnati, Indy, and Chicago! As always thank you for the support and stay tuneeeeeed! P.S. Here is a link to the first every DIY video I did on my channel to help people: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-vTl6UNMKjLc.html
ChrisFix can you help me at all I just wanna know what the sound is coming from so whenever I first start up the car then turn out I hear a weird sound coming when I turn but it only happens the first start up
Funny thing is he exposed his face by accident in that one video of super cleaning his windshield. But that was five years ago so he could look different now And it also goes to show how good cleaning the windshield works 😂
1 year later and this still super helpful! Saved me about $500 I went to a shop and that was the bill. I went and got the pump and a socket set and did it. Super accomplished feeling thanks Chris. Keep it up!
I've probably utilized 5% of the videos he's made with my own vehicles. Watching the rest and every other repair videos just ads a slight amount of understanding of how to fix and diagnose stuff
I'm not a car guy at all, but there is something so entertaining about watching him do this stuff that has always seemed like magic to me. And he's very informative in these tutorials, so hopefully someday I'll actually start doing things myself. He's the best thing on RU-vid.
A little trick I've used in my almost 30 years as a professional factory trained technician is while it's sitting there with your spill proof funnel full, grab the rad hoses and squeeze them quite a few times so the coolant pulsates in the system and it'll almost 100% bleed your system before you've even started your vehicle.. It's so simple and I've never encountered a vehicle this didn't work on.
Excellent video, you have a great down to earth "keep it simple" mentality. I did the pump in my wife's 2005 Yukon. The shop wanted $750 to do it. For $262 total in parts, including new thermostat, upper radiator hose and serp belt, and a few hours (my first time, I wanted to take my time and do it right) it was worth the $490 savings. It's run like a champ since, she's made several long distance trips with it and not a drop of leakage.
"I'd like the ChrisFix please..." "I don't know that drink, but I'm happy to make it. What's in it?" "Well, first you put on your eye protection and blue gloves... All you're going to need is a Highballglass, a shaker, some common ice, a few fluids and a straw! It's_that simple!_ You should always check your recipe book to make sure you know how to make the drink, but this one is very simple, so let's get started! First, you want a double of Soapy Wooder, a dash of Medium Strength Threadlocker, and a half ounce of Blinker Fluid, your gonna want to shake it at 20 FtLbs of torque and make sure you get it nice and shaken up. You go to the dishwasher and find a clean cup... out with the old, in with the new. You pour the drink over rocks in a highball glass and top it with a gasket garnish. That's it! Your done! You just made the ChrisFix drink and saved a ton of money on alcohol and it looks great!
Where has this guy been all my life! Why am I just finding these videos??I feel dumb now! I've junked & sold off good vehicles because I was told by a mechanic that the repairs needed wld cost more than what the vehicle is worth...& the repairs needed were not large at all. Never again! I see that I'm late but Thanks, Chris Fix for all the great videos!
Don’t feel dumb! I’m 4 months behind you! 😂 I hope to this one day and save money this way! We can do it! Chris is our guide! Just got my 1st car at age 45! Wish me luck!
WOW! Jaguar is waaaaay more convenient then some of the Hondas and Ford's I have worked on. That is the most accessible water pump I have ever seen. No shroud fan and clutch removal, no axle removal!
I know nothing of cars. Saw my engine overheating, looked at coolant coming out; guessed it was the water pump based off its looks and google images of them looking similar... using this as a guide, I changed it and it worked!! No more coolant leaks, no more over heating! Thank you so much, ChrisFix!
Same bro. I’ve literally never even changed my own oil and last night I put an ad online looking to buy a fixer to work on. Currently eyeing an 09 dodge challenger that needs a new head gasket.
It's free and I hope it stays free. You do have the option to buy some of his merch to support him financially to keep offering free content if you wish.
Hey Chris! I never comment on videos but I'm making an exception here to say thanks for the awesome high quality videos. You deserve all the respect and recognition in the world. Keep it up!
Take his word about the coolant being scolding hot My father burned himself to the 2nd degree because he didnt wait for the car to completely cool before working on something in engine bay, accidentaly broke a coolant line and it dumped all over his feet, this is very dangerous, save yourself the trip to the hospital and work on a cool engine
@@chrisfix he was very lucky to get out of this with very little complications, espially for a 2nd degree burn, I dont want anybody else to live the same thing
Ehh not really a waste. Just like my car, it’s a 2016 vw gti and it needs a new water pump, which I could easily do myself if it weren’t located deep beneath the intake manifold which has to be takin out to get to the water pump. Unless Chris makes a video on how to tear apart half of the engine, I won’t be doing this one myself.
Its just overheads man. More people in the building, specialized tools, paying a cut to the brand. It's also multiple departments instead of just a few guys and some hoists in a shed.
other than watching a couple of volvo heads on youtube, this channel is my first source for any job i’m doing on my car and hands down the best quality diy mechanic videos on youtube🙌
Dude, you’re the best.... as a DIYer, you’re always the first one I look up for when I’m fixin’ something for the first time on any of my trucks... keep up the great work!
I'm very surprised at how accessible that water pump is! Some pumps that are driven by the timing belt can be a huge amount of work.. great video as always!
I've done water pumps before , sometimes the gaskets don't absorb the tolerance and can still leak, moreso on older cars which might have a slight warp in the mating face. Trick to sort that is a very thin smear of liquid gasket on the paper one, both sides. Stick the coated gasket to the pump and bolt in, it should seal nicely.
Thanks for the tip. If you use RTV dont tighten it down all of the way. You want to hand tighten it and then let it cure for an hour and then tighten it down all of the way. Otherwise it wont work to fill in any of those voids or any warping.
Chris, your videos are so fun to watch and have saved me a lot of money, I have a 99 New Edge Mustang 3.8 (of course I'm always looking for more HP!) and 83 RX-7 that sat under a tree for 20+ years, your videos have helped on both projects. Both cars are running great thanks to you! Thank You So Much!
Jaguar? Try Ford. The Jaguar X-Type is basically a rebadged Ford Mondeo / Ford Taurus. But you're absolutely right about Dealerships being a ripoff. Dealerships make 70+% of their profits from their Parts and Services departments, next is Used Car Sales, and lastly, New Car Sales.
Perfect video, good explaining as always. JesusChrist Cris, you make it easier for everyone, Bravo!, please man, keep doing your great work. Regards from Lima, Peru. Saludos amigo.
Thank you so much for all your effort making these videos Chris. It's perfection at it's best. You must just remember to take a break as well. You go through so much trouble for us, your fans/subscribers and we appreciate it, but we don't want you to burn out. So take that break, go do something that you enjoy, like fishing or so, and when you come back, we will be here waiting 😊 You make such a positive difference in each of our lives, and we see your effort and we appreciate it ❤
I really like the way you say 'good'. It makes me feel like /I/ did something right! Your channel is the only one I've found that makes this stuff look approachable and achievable for a clueless toolless dunce like me, thank you, hope I can put some of your content into practice some day.
It always amazes me, no matter how well explain and detail your videos are people always downvote. I mean chrisfix has save me a lot of money and I have learn a lot. Love this channel keep the videos coming!
You are life saver for those can’t really afford these expensive prices for simple things that they throw at you. Well done 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻God bless you for teaching other human to learn something that will benefit them and help them save money👏🏻❤️🙏
I had to stop my hand from trying to reach through my phone to try and pet your dog. lol Also, I had a drain plug shear off and didn't have an OEM radiator. So I put steel stick in the drain plug to seal it. It stopped the leak, but my engine was still overheating. I did some trouble shooting and some googling. I narrowed it down to either my thermostat or my water pump. After watching your video on the thermostat, I pulled my thermostat and it wasn't bad, in fact it was almost new. (About 1 1/2 years old) So then I watched this video. I'm currently replacing my water pump. I go to your channel for all of my car maintenance questions. A mechanic will tell you is a 3 hour job and needs a bunch of specialty tools. (fan clutch) In reality Joe Smoe (me) can do it with basic tools in 30-40 minutes. Your tutorials are the best. Keep it up.
On a Subaru the waterpump is driven by the timing belt, though. Therefore this job will be a lot harder since you will have to remove the crankpulley, the timing belt cover, and need to make sure that the engine is on time after installing the pump. Might as well replace the belt, tensioner and all the pulleys while you are in there.
ehhhhhh boxer engines are quite different than this. Subaru water pumps are typically timing belt driven, not serpentine belt driven. You have to remove the alternator, move the ac compressor and power steering pump. Then you have to remove the timing covers and remove the timing belt.
Chris on his Instagram: I only had one day to film this video. Me: this video isn't gonna be good because he didn't take his time Chris: hold my coolant
@fenno graas where i come from we call it a kofferbak but i said both because people from england are gonna be saying its called “boot” because trunk is wrong and vice versa but have a nice day/night👍👍👍
Thank you Chrisfix😁 finally u notice my comment im one of your big fan here in the Philippines. Hope you can do a shoutout of my youtube channel on your next video 🙏.
