I like the idea of attaching the awning fabric first to the RV top rail instead of the tube first. Most DIY videos are showing slide the fabric on the tube first, roll it up then slide the fabric and tube on the top slide. I will be attempting this tomorrow using your method.
Before you cut the wire ties, I retract the roller tube at the switch, that way it won’t spring out on you, then run it in and a few times, you can see the picture of him cutting the tie, the fabric is complete hanging down.
Thanks for sharing this video, it's great for all of those that have that model of awning. I have a A&E 9100 power awning, and I'm wanting to replace the fabric, but I have no idea of how to do it. My concern is how does the arms react when the roller tube end caps are removed? In all honesty, I fear breaking something. Would you all have any videos that show how to replace the awning fabric on the A&E 9100 Power Awning ? I need all the help I can get.... Thanks
Kenneth Barnard Well, I couldnt find a good tutorial showing my exact model, So I decided that I'd go ahead and do the job on my own. I will admit that this job wasnt real easy, but then it wasnt real hard ether. I used two real long nylon ropes, and two tall ladders. The ropes replaced the two other men that was needed for this job... LOL Anyway, On my A&E 9100 power awning, The only tension on the roller tube is on the left arm. The drive motor is on the right arm, and there is no tension there at all, just the electric motor. The spooky part of this job was not knowing if there was tension, and if there was, just how much. Well being very careful as I pushed the left end of the roller tub tube bracket up out of the arm, I held onto it very tight. There was only 6 rotations on the spring, not very much at all. Before I done this, I had my ropes over the top of the RV, and tied to the awning roller tube, on both sides. After I done that with the tension side (left side) I then removed the power connector from the motor on the right side of the awning, removed the roller tube from the awning arm and let rope hold it. Whoa ! I jumped the gun here. Befor I done any of this stuff, I used the power switch inside the RV to roll the awning out about 9 or 10 inches, then I placed a real long heavy duty tie strap around the arm near the top of the arm. Done this on both sides. This was to prevent the hydrolic rams pushing the roller tube arms out and away from the RV... Dang this a long story... LOL Try to shorten it up a bit, as the awning was hanging from the ropes, I cut the awning from the track on the side of the RV, Then I lowered the awning to the ground. Cleaned everything up, slid the new fabric on the RV first, Then the roller tube. The I pulled the up using the ropes, the spun the tube until the fabric was all round up. Put the roller tube back on the arms, The I turned the bracket on the left end 6 rotations to ad the tension back to the spring. When I was finished up, Everything worked great.. Now one thin ya gotta remember is, when ya put the fabric on the roller tube, Ya gotta make sure you have the same distance between the fabric and the end cap, on both ends, that way the fabric will roll on up the way it should, and your arms will slip into place they should.... Lordy, I think it better to pay to have this done.... LOL Forgive the long story....

If you have a couple of friends that ya can get to help with the job, By all means, Please do. It'll sure make things easy-rrrrr LOL I wish ya best of luck, If I can do it, so can you.... Be sure to let me know how things go... Oh! if ya want, when it comes to letting the tension off the left end of the roller tube, You can just grasp the roller tube real good, make sure your nands fingers are clear of the bracket that holds the tube to the are, and just bump the tube until it slips up and out. The tension on the spring will make that bracket spin very fast. When you replace it, just give it 6 turns of tension, and yer good to go....
