30 cts a blade? Last time I bought Astra blades I paid approx 7 cts a blade. I can get 300 blades for less than $30. I guess the big markup is so you can buy that fancy gown.

Agree I also paid 7-8 cents a blade. No reason to pay $30 for a pack of 100.

Do the blades actually blunt after about 5 uses, or can you strop them to hone the edge and keep them useful for a bit longer?

Quick question: what exactly does flipping the blade in the razor do? How exactly does that extend the life of the blade?

The green Astra blades shown in the video actually last a long time and don't require replacement too often; I'm using them now, and still on my first blade from the pack, I shaved with it for my 12th time this morning and it still shaves well and clean.. Not bad, considering I have a thick and coarse stubble.

They are very aggressive. I suggest running the blade away from the cutting edge along your forearm on each edge. Again in the opposite direction you would shave. It will gently burnish the edge and you won’t get as much burn. Otherwise you’ll see that the first shave with these Astras will always be too aggressive and after a couple shaves they are actually better. Another option is to try Gillette 7 O’Clock blades. They’re a lot better from the start.

Consider an M5 nylon washer between the base plate and the handle of a 3 piece razor; it will protect the razor and more.

Hi Kirby - If you haven't tried it I think you would enjoy Martin de Candre shaving soap. There are some wonderful artisan shave products out there. Off topic question for you - I have a dress shirt that I love and fits me perfectly but it is no longer made. Can you recommend someone that might be willing to take it apart and recreate the cut for me? Also, thank you for you help with Montefortuna. My order arrived a few weeks ago. I ordered a box of LGC robustos that had a box date of Dec. 2017 and are smoking great with 2.5 years on them. All the best.

I too had those same issues shaving. Once I switched to shaving with a safety razor they went away. If you're getting irritation and ingrown hairs, you're probably doing it wrong.

Just a testimony to how cheap the blades are - Astra razor blades are my favourite blades for my DE razor. I live in Poland and this very same pack of 100 blades costs me... $10. That's almost a year of shaving for me!

for a 100 pack of blades? I can only find sample packs for £11-ish from ebay, where do you buy yours from? I know it's only a £2 difference. But per shave you are paying over 18% more.

I just nicked my finger. It slipped when I turned the handle to secure it. Watching this video to figure if I did something wrong. It's fine tho I will learn from this and be more careful next time.

@@kirbyallison Thanks for reply Kirby. After researching this for hours. Some 3-piece razors are designed to bend the blade so that the blade is affixed at a 30 degree angle. If you look at multi-blade razors - they too are affixed at 30 degrees. I found that it did hack my face if I didn’t tighten the razor properly.
