I just bought a used camper from a rv consignment dealership and was told by the parts manager that " The toilet has to be completely removed and disassembled to replace seal so most people just buy a new toilet ". This video just saved me $200 in parts alone. Thanks. It would be helpful if you could tell us how to identify toilet brands and model since they require different seals and replacement procedures. Thanks again for the best video I've seen on this repair.
You are most welcome Chuck! And we'll take your suggestion for a tips on identifying toilet brands and models into consideration for a future video. Cheers! - Tucker Ballister
Man, this is the only video to watch to change this seal. The crazy instructions that come with the seal have you taking the toilet completely off the floor! Since my is in a wet bath and siliconed down not a pleasant option. Just followed your video and it went great. About the only suggestion I have is to have a short or stubby ratchet handle available--not a lot of clearance when taking out those two rather long bolts.
I was all set to replace the seal until I saw this I cleaned it used plumbers grease and bought the conditioner, problem solved. thanks for saving me the job of pulling the toilet.
Lol hmm 🤔 I think what to watch between cooking 🧑🍳 - find this in the cue. Oh perfect 👍 Saturday nite excitement. I shall know whereto go when I need this - thanks.
I replaced the Flush ball seal, it held water for a week and then started losing water again. I’ll try some Thetford seal conditioner, I’ve inspected the alignment with the cup and the seal seems to be fitting fine.
Let us know if the seal conditioner helps! Also, double check that the flush ball itself is retracting completely. Sometimes, TP can get stuck in the track and prevent the ball from sealing the toilet bowl. Hope that helps! - Tucker Ballister
I gave it another Thetford seal conditioner treatment and making sure that the ball returns completely when filling the bowl seems to have done the trick thank you. @@campingworld
One extra thing to be aware of when putting bolts back in just tighten to snug or it will crack the toilet if porcelain an extra 16th of a turn can be the difference in it cracking or not so just be careful
Hmmm, they shouldn't have to be. The only thing you should have to remove are the bolts that hold the bowl to the base. If I said otherwise, I apologize! -Ian Baker
Hey Buzz, Ian Baker here. On most Thetford models you have to remove the bowl. On the most common Dometic models, you can replace it without the bowl removal. Hope this helps! -Ian Baker
