Thanks for this video. We have these tiles on our house and had some broken tiles on a porch. Husband and I watched this vid and decided to deal with it. We used caulk and a pastry comb to create the ridges on our wood tiles. Then we painted. It came out fantastic. We would have never tried this if we hadn’t seen your video.
This is an awesome comment. Although unconventional. This was a solid repair and I’m glad that you are happy with your product. Check out my new home repair e-book. It’s what I’ve been working on and most proud of. Homeowner special :-) and thank you for your support. thehomemenders.com/e-course/
Thank you. Get a prybar and get up behind it and pull the nails without pulling the siding. Easy to break be gentle didn’t slip the new piece up in behind.
I would rather have old asbestos siding than vinyl. Sometimes old stuff is still good. I like keeping with original design, in general and I've seen reno shows clean and paint the old asbestos and it looks wonderful plus is cheaper than new siding. I'm tempted to pull off the vinyl siding in my new purchase of a 1946 cottage.
You probably know this but for those that dont anytime youre working with asbestos on your own then you should atleast wear an n95. As soon as you start breaking up those panels the asbestos fibers get release into the air. I know you only messed with a small area today, but just be cautious buddy. Appreciate the content.
I will do my bestest!!! I think that might be your 2nd motto?? Great idea with the line on the piece of wood for patch...From a distance it will trick your eyes. Dustin, Thanks You again, keep up the good work!!
Great job. The only recommendation I would give you is to wear an appropriate mask made for asbestos removal and to wet the asbestos siding with water and soap.
Question … over here in order to not disturb the asbestos house wrap just goes over it, what I want to know is how do you attach it to the shingles without breaking them. Is there a specific nail I need or it taped up with Tyvek tape?
What do you do with the removed tile? When I spoke with the city about the tiles on my house, I was told they had to be packed on pallets - only so many shingles per pallet and each pallet had to have my name, address, telephone number, and a bunch of other crazy stuff. And then i had to have a special company come and pick them up. And they had to be sealed with plastic.
Hey Troy, that’s a great question… There are proper asbestos removal practices for large amounts… I was only removing one broken one. You can put it in a plastic bag, tie it up and toss it.
I currently noticed some siding drooping off my exterior. I am worried that they wont fit back to their og place when i try to repair them..is it really as simple as pushing them up into place like you did there? Im concerned im going to break them. Idk if i can find a contractor who can fix them without charging an arm and leg
Does having asbestos siding lower the value of the house? Can you take off the boards without replacing it? Someone one told me that it would be cheaper for me to take off the boards myself instead of a company.
Heyhey Mary. Doesn’t bringg the value down but usually a home owner will install siding right over top of it. No one wants to mess with it. I hope this helps.
Do you need RRP certification in Florida? Or, like around here, contractors just blow it off so that they can under bid the guys who are doing it in accordance with the program?
It seems that awful green and or blackish orange stains it looks like shewenella, is on exterior homes all the time now, I'm guessing it's from the constant weather mod and blocking of the sun.
Do you recall the size of your panel? Was it an actual asbestos panel or one of those cement fiber panels made to look the same. I've removed a window on a wall and now have to find a few sheets which is impossible to do. Home Depot offers GAF weatherproof cement fiber panels that look exactly the same but my problem is the size. I bought 12 x 24 (profile12) panels and there too small. The only other size bigger is 14 5/8 L x 32 W. I'm good with the 32 width because I can cut it, but worried about the L. My current panels look more like 16 or 17 in and I can't find anything to match. I'm going to order them anyways and keep my fingers crossed that they work or that I can think of a way to extend them a few inches. Any ideas?
Hey Hoosier . I couldn’t find my 12 x 24 so I created one out of Louan and made it look the same, you can also create one out of Louan any size you want just make sure you waterproof both sides with some exterior paint. These are getting hard to come by
Thick exterior paint with a few coats and a roller. The thick paint actually made it look pretty cool and then I drew a couple lines on it to give the illusion
@@homemend wow, great idea. I wouldn't have known if you hadn't told me. Great illusion effect. I think I'll use the sheets from home depot and use louan or osb templates to fill in if the cement fiber sheets aren't long enough. You won't see them anyways since there overlapped.
Hey Richard it’s the last couple years has taught us anything. Masks don’t work LOL All joking aside you are correct asbestos should have a mask I was outside with minimal repairs so I didn’t feel it was needed. Thanks for commenting
