My take on this brake job;
This is one of the most challenging car jobs I've ever done! Thanks to Tom (my buddy) for helping me get through this journey (some of the connectors are very hard to disconnect). Some of the parts are not video because we needed two people, hands-on to get some of the parts in or out. Since we were working at night, so it was hard to record. I try my best to explain the steps better but the lighting is tricky and my buddy hates me recording everything. So I have to be hands-on and put my camera down... It turns out, I love it and looking forward to learning how to fix cars so I never have to deal with dishonest mechanics who tried to rip me off anymore. Over the years, I've had many bad experiences dealing with terrible mechanics. I will learn more about cars and I want to help women how to prevent dishonest mechanics. I will try to do more easier car stuff to help women/people understand how to fix their cars.
This is multiple stages to get this job done, it's a lot of work, please don't attempt if you're a beginner:
1) remove all the components to get to the brake actuator (dismantle 1/2 of the engine)
2) Bleed the brake
3) Bleed the synergy box, coolant bleed
4) I forgot to mention that you needed to get the bubbles out of the coolant system ( please look up the source so you can get your heat back)

Hello, may I have a question, I have damaged the abs on a 2009 Toyota Camry hybrid, can it be repaired, or what part of the unit is being replaced, what car is it suitable for too?

I don’t know how to repair the ABS, I bought a new ones from the dealership and replaced it myself. However, u can call the junk yard and buy used one. It will saves you a lot of money,

Your video...shows very dangerous practices..please learn safety procedures before tackling automotive repairs...when you were removing wheel lugs...you could have hurt yourself very badly.

What is the safety procedure for removing nuts? Removing using criss cross pattern and tighten it to specs are not safe enough? Then what is your professional need to do that I haven’t done and I’d love you to enlighten me. This videos is one of my first videos and I’ve bought the repair manual and followed the specs since. My car is running and in great condition for the last 3 years. All I do is maintenance and I have the disclaimer on RU-vid to warn people to do their own research since I’m not the professional is enough warning don’t you think?

Awesome work! I would have pulled one from a junk yard for $30 or so. Double the work though. If you’re planning to keep the car a while a new part is a good choice. Love how you’re not afraid to tackle something new. This is a pretty involved repair.

Thank you, this is our second repair job that we tackle together, but after this ABS, everything else seems so easy:) I've doing many repair, tune-up since...I love it and will continue to working on cars:)

Love the video! Did the same thing not pushing the HV battery plug down on another repair, caused some crazy stuff! Now doing this on an 05 prius and hoping the used actuator is good! Best of luck on your mechanical adventures!!

Thanks, it’s a lot of work but I enjoyed learning from it and I’m fixing another Hydraulic control unit. It’s much easier than actuator, many things seems easier after actuator for sure!!

Nice thnks for the detailed list of tools needed, this might be my first big project with my '09 prius! Also I agree with your male friend/husband that you would get more views like that 🤣 jk

Just make sure check the brake line before reinstalling everything back, bleed the brakes, get air bubbles out of the coolant system, then you’re good to go… wish u luck with job

Took 2 hours to get in to the actuator and 2 hours to get out. There were two choke point spots were it took 45 min which was lining up the brake lines just right to screw them back in and the orange inverter connector took 30 minutes to remove. Tip: Use a Crows Foot 10 mm flare nut adapter to attach to torque wrench so you don't over torque brake lines on actuator.

One of the orange connector is a nightmare for us too. It took us for a long time to get it out too.

I had to get help to try to get it out, the bracket is a pain in the butt, and the orange connector took awhile to get it out too. But seems like you’ve tackled it and everything will be easier after this job!😅

I changed out the actuator at 210,000 and I’m preventing any future actuator contamination and leak by changing the brake fluid every year to prevent water & old brake fluid plastic tubes from contaminating and making it leak ever again! I think the leak happened because I never changed the brake fluid even once since new.

$3,000 dollars to replace what is the equivalent to a master cylinder on a regular gas powered car? I replaced all my brakes wheel cylinders and master cylinder on my GMC pickup for less than $200 bucks. EVs are not worth the money.

I thought the price for the new actuator is ridiculous when I found out how much it is. I've hag this car for 9 years now and it's still running. It's a great cart but three part is not justify for an old car. The dealership is always overcharged!

I think the brake actuator is more expensive than brake pads. I’ve have this hybrid car for over 10 years, the two most expensive components that I’ve replaced was the hybrid battery and ABS (but I did it myself and only paid for parts not labor). Other than that this car is solidly reliable and got 40-45mpg. It’s a great vehicle and save gas.

Nice work but I thought all hybrid Toyota’s required a scan tool to bleed the brakes properly. Preferably the Toyota software to bleed the brakes. You didn’t run into any issues not using a scan tool ??
@vallynsworld
@vallynsworld Год назад
I bleed manually and it runs fine but I was anal and ask to borrow a friend’s fancy scan tool and bleed it again with the his scan tool. I think u can do without the scan tool. I’m doing my hydraulic control unit now on Ford edge and I’ll do the manual then machine and see how it works or I probably need to program the hydraulic unit with my friend’s fancy diagnostic machine again. I’ll let you guys know if it needs it.

You can bleed Prius 2nd gen brakes by: -Keeping the car off -Having a friend depress the brake pedal or using a pedal depresser on the brake pedal -Loosening whichever brake’s bleeder screw you’re working on (with a tube connected to it that feeds into a reservoir all the way to the bottom with brake fluid at the bottom) The Prius will start pumping pressure into that brake as long as the bleeder is open and bleed the system for you. This method works for all four wheels and can be used to flush the entire brake fluid system!

@@vallynsworld did you end up needing to bleed it using the Toyota tech stream software? I actually just called that same dealership for a quote today in Raleigh - ’m about an hour away from the area.
