Thanks for the super helpful video. I wanted to do it myself before having them mounted to make sure I got the other brakes back. Wasn't going well at all, watched this, and still took about half an hour but got it done. Getting the bottom plate back on was the hold up.

Awesome work man, agreed, never know what happens when you drop stuff off at shops.

I just back out the forward pressure screws so the whole baseplate detaches. Slowly - each side equally. But your way looks less stressful on the arms. Thanks for making this! Maybe you could list each brake length part # in the description, easier than replying

I have a pair of 115mm pivot 14s on the way and a pair of 95mm pivot 15s and want to swap the brakes, do I need to fully disassemble the bindings or can I just unscrew the two forward pressure screws all the way to swap the brakes out? Thanks
@ChrisWhitcomb90
@ChrisWhitcomb90 Год назад
As long as the lower binding assemblies are identical I think you could totally try this. If not swapping the arms like this video shows would be a sure way to get it done.

Is it possible to change the brake on a ski, or would you have to remove the heel piece right?
@ChrisWhitcomb90
@ChrisWhitcomb90 Год назад
You would have to take it off the ski. That’s pretty easy to do; when you remount use 2 part marine epoxy and hand tighten

As long as it’s a pivot style heel then it should work!! Give her a try and let me know.

Do you have a link for 120 mm brakes for this binding? I'm not sure what exactly to buy, I have the same pit viper looks in the video
@ChrisWhitcomb90
@ChrisWhitcomb90 Год назад
Shoot, they only come in a 115mm or a 130mm brake. How wide is your ski? A 120mm ski can usually fit with some bending.
@boydcrumbaugh3362
@boydcrumbaugh3362 Год назад
@Christopher Whitcomb they are 123, so a 130mm would do Thanks for reply!!

Good day kind sir, First of all thanks for the video, I totally bend the brakes on my 15 GW and wanna replace it. Do you think it would be a problem to dismount the whole backplate and put it back on th skis? Im quite concerned about the ski not having the stability it used to have when i first mounted the bindings. Any tips/recommendations are much appreciated! Cheers!
@ChrisWhitcomb90
@ChrisWhitcomb90 Год назад
Hey there, of course, glad you found this video helpful. Back in the day we used to remove and remount bindings as a way to save money by running multiple pairs of skis with the same clamp (binding) #thatskibumlife. Anyways, I think you will be fine do remove your clamps and swap out the brakes. I would recommend that you use a 24h - cure time epoxy like this g-flex epoxy ( link here: amzn.to/3inc0gM) in the holes when you remount. This will ensure the screw hole is water tight and you don't get core rot. Also don't over torque the screws when remounting as you might get a spinner (aka a screw that strips out the hole) if that happens let me know and I can get you pointers on how to fix it. Cheers buddy, working on skis isn't rocket surgery and remember they are tools NOT jewels!

@@ChrisWhitcomb90 Alright, sweet. Appreciate the advice! I got 96mm poachers, would you recommend getting the 95mm brakes and bend them a little in order to fit them on the ski? Or should I get wider ones? I’m pretty sure I fckd my brakes because they were too wide. Thanks again!
@ChrisWhitcomb90
@ChrisWhitcomb90 Год назад
@locknare I’d definitely go with a 95mm brake on that ski. Usually will accommodate 5-10mm larger without an issue!

@@ChrisWhitcomb90 Hey Christopher I might need your advice here again. I dismounted the back pieces of my bindings and realized that on one side, one of the holes is too big for the screws.. dude that originally mounted the skis must've fckd up his job.. any idea on how to fix the issue? I was thinking about making the hole even bigger and putting a thread into the ski which then holds the screws of the binding.. does that even make sense? Anyways, I'd appreciate your help in this case :) Cheers bud!

@@LocknareTake it to a shop and have them install a heliacoil. This is standard practice for stripped screw holes. It’s a pretty common repair. We do it often on junior skis that use foam cores and often get remounted using old holes from previous mounts.

Were you able to buy just the brake? Or did you have to get the whole baseplate? I Was hoping to save some money by buying last years model of the 115mm and swapping it out for a 95, but a whole new baseplate makes it about a wash, and I can only find the entire baseplate replacement. Either way, thanks for the info!

@ChrisWhitcomb90 Год назад
Thanks for the comment; you should be able to actually buy the brakes/assembly straight from Rossi, the part number is FC9F001 for the 95mm brake assembly. Haven’t tried their number in a while but try them at 435-252-3300. Otherwise, ask around or google pivot brake trade. People on newschoolers or TGR are usually looking to trade.

cool video, thanks hello you can make a video on disassembling the dildo - there is a metal pin and as I understand it, in order to safely remove the plastic, you need to pull it out and then unscrew the bolt - there will be access to the spring. I want to lubricate my heels. there were no problems with disassembling the metal toe - I replaced the terrible old ceramic paste, which became more like an abrasive, with a calcium-based synthetic waterproof lubricant (neutral to aluminum)
@Batesey910
@Batesey910 Год назад
you just need to do this exact thing then pry the white plastic piece with the spring in it off, the rest will come apart & then you can lube it all up. watch your eye balls!
@AnonymouSRU
@AnonymouSRU Год назад
@@Batesey910 as I understand it, to disassemble the heel, you need to find a way to pull out a small metal pin-lock that blocks the movement of the plastic part of the heel. In principle, I can unscrew the spring in the heel without removing this shift, but then it is removed very badly and tightly ... in general, I'm still thinking how to do it in the most beautiful way. and yes thanks for the warning I always work in plastic glasses)
