Best video for sure. I just changed my DW5600e using this video as a guide. Only tricky part for me was unlocking the battery... maybe I was being too gentle...but I got it eventually. $1 Duracell and a $7 thing of silicone grease and I'm good. The BEST watch in the world to me I'd back in order! I've worn the same watch since my basic training decades ago. My watch repair shop closed this past year (coronavirus) so I had to learn how to it on my own. Toughest watch in the world to me. I never take it off...fresh and salt water, fishing, banging into stuff, mud races, painting (and paint thinner!) And blood, guts, grease, and anything else I get into... this watch shines.
@staypositive301 battery version is mine. Always stayed with what worked from basic training in the 80s. Can't say anything about solar...never had it. Good luck, great watch!
@@Motorcyclewindtherapy oh. Some youtuber mislead it last for only 2-3 yrs depending upon usage. But if this watch uses CR 2016 battery then it should atleast last 7yrs on more... I ll opt for battery version bro!
i just watched a video where you couldn't see the work being done because the straps were blocking the view... i was like, why would you even post a video like that? then i found this video -- the strap flip is genius!
Those rubber gloves would have saved one of my Casio Marine Gear MRT200 when I attempted to change its two batteries. At a giving moment while handling and trying to fit the batteries in their slots I felt a tingling on my finger and I thought it could have been a electric discharge. My LCD display was never the same again. It is unstable, blinks, the numbers disappears and appears when changing functions and the batteries do not last a week. Be careful not to short yours! I did not believe I would!
Awesome tutorial. Only thing I'd add is be very careful of the alarm spring. You can see it clearly at 07:21. Controls all the sounds the watch makes. It can fall out, and good luck finding it 😁
If you take that out the watch doesn’t be able to make any sound no more, until you put that little spring back in its position in the module. If you lose that you can extract a new one from a spring bar for watches’ metal bracelets. Just cut one of the two extremities of the spring bar and collect the spring from its own inside. Than place it on the module of your Casio et voilà, les jeux sont fait: you have your Casio that can make every sound again
Great video. I just replaced my battery thanks to you! Appreciate it very much. You’re very meticulous, I love it. No talking, just your mysterious black gloves and subtitles 👍🏽🙌🏽
These videos where there is no talking are no good. I needed detailed instructions on how to unlock the battery. Seeing him do it is not enough. I run into this all the time with these no talk videos. Thanks anyway.
@@JackyYBT If you want your watch to be as tough as possible, quartz is the way to go. And digital quartz is even better. No moving parts to damage or dislodge.
@@MrPleers Yup totally agreed on that, but if you hate changing battery after few years then automatic and mechanical watch is the way to go. Plus you get those smooth seconds hand.
I think I'll just take my watch to my local watch repairman when I need a battery replacement. I'd be afraid of damaging my watch. But it was still cool to see exactly how the battery replacement is like. Thumbs up on the video!
I have 2 places near my place of work that have very competent watch repairmen. I've had G-Shocks repaired by them and they've been awesome. But I'll definitely keep your advice in mind if I have to get my watches repaired somewhere else.
And I will try to extend the battery life so that it outlives the watch. Use the light sparingly, and don't use alarms often. FYI, my first G-Shock battery is in its 7th year. Only the light does not function.
Toughest watch in the world. Paid $49.00 brand new. Worth MORE than I paid for. Don’t think I took it off once for four years in the Marine Corps. Ate and slept with it 24/7. Girlfriend finally got on to me for NEVER taking it off .lol…Genuine Quality and I still wear one.
That’s a neat trick with the strap! I probably would have taken it off, then most likely sent a spring bar sailing through the living room and spent half an hour trying to find it. Your way is better.
Yea sending my 2 G Shocks to Casio. I know how to change a battery. Not gonna risk losing da water resistant. That right there is worth paying da money for.
I just replaced the battery on mine DW-5600E yesterday after 10 years obviously, I cleaned and applied the silicone grease on the gasket the watch is running like new ready for at least 5 + years on an energizer 2016 battery awesome video.
Great video! It felt hard to find a trusted place to get the battery changed so I was tempted to do it myself but was worried to damage the watch. With this video it made me feel very confident. I was able to change it now in 15 minutes. I skipped the o-ring refurbishment as I do not have the product. I used a needle to unlock the battery and it went well. For the small coil I was careful and it stayed well in place. For the AC reset, I used an old copper wire and could have used a paper clip. I noticed my battery was low because the backlight no longer worked and the digits fading. It now works like a charm. Thank you!
@@faraaz1541 I did not put my watch purposefully in the water since but have used it normally and it works fine. Of course, if you can refurbish the o-ring it will be better.
This guy is a professional who does it so skilfully, diligently, even cleaning the back case, rubber gasket and reapplying silicone. If you go to a watch repair shop to replace the battery, do you think he will bother to other than simply replacing the battery and screwing the case back in place? I wish he would, but I know he wouldn't.
@@Myrslokstok I am sorry to hear that. By my experience, it's best to replace the battery of the watch at its authorised service centre. Only they will clean the internals and reapply silicone for waterproofing. It will cost a lot more, but it is the only way to retain the integrity and well-being of the watch.
James S Yes offcourse but there are no such in Sweeden for Bulova. Considering the ceep price like $250 on sale, it was not worth the $80 for the high end delers at the luxary street of Stockholm. So I whent with the big watch store chain in sweden that only sells watches and it was only 20 then. I liked the look and especially the watch band sollid metall link on the old one. Now both are broken.
@@Myrslokstok I understand. I can see you are sad that your two watches are broken. Then at best, try to find a more reliable watch technician to restore your watches. Hope you get your watches back in good order soon. Good luck!
Sometimes doing by yourself is better than pay at shop. I did pay for replace battery and they forgot put silicone to seal propely then you go for shower and it's foggy. Great vid! Thanks.
Domo arigatogozaimasu! Very detailed, clear instructional video. I couldn’t get the original O ring to fit after cleaning and greasing it, ended up ordering a new one from EBay, which took a few days, but other than that, it went well.
For G shocks yes you do. They’re the most fragile when the back is taken out. I ruined mine for not being gentle enough. So much I get anxiety trying to change my other g shocks batteries. You absolutely need those tweezers too btw
Incredible instructional video and didn't need any verbal instructions. Even I could do this. I have three Casio solar-powered watches so, I know what I'll be watching when it comes time to replace the batteries in these watches. Thank;k you so much!!
jesus, people. why are you so afraid of every little thing you can do yourself? you remove some screws, some rubber, pop the battery in, put everything back, lube a piece of rubber and screw back in. it's literally 5 minutes of work and half of what you do (the battery replacement part) is practically the same as replacing a battery in your digital kitchen scale, it's probably the same one :D
Don't lose the spring guys I got lucky and found mine. Fell off wen struggleing with the battery clip I got lucky and found it lost in the towel I was working on. Second time I replaced battery. Last time was 4 yrs ago
This guy wanted to be a heart doctor He's the assistant cook on the night shift over at Denny's I learned what I needed to know / thanks for posting this
What about the spring that makes the button tone "beep" for the alarms or hour mark? Those usually pop up in the air when you take the back case off the watch. I bought and re-sold a G-shock on eBay and had to change the battery. It popped out. The customer sent it back and I got a spring from the spring bar that keeps a regular watch's strap or bracelet on. I made sure to pick a spring bar that's spring inside of it was very close to the width of the original spring that came with the G-shock. I cut it with needle nose pliers with the sharp cutting tool part near the handle. Replaced the spring. Put the back case back on and the button tone "beep" for the alarms, hourly chime, and button operation "beep" worked properly again and mailed it back to the customer. Are there not these springs on the dw5600? They will pop out of the movement when the back case is removed and fly somewhere and get lost if you're not careful. This customer is how I found out how the button tone sound of a G-shock works. I watched a video on RU-vid on how to replace a lost spring and that's how I fixed the watch. I'm more careful now not to lose the original but because I was a watch dealer who bought, sometimes fixed and resold watches I had to do this a few times and I have lots of extra spring bars from sprucing up watches with new straps and bracelets. I'll also polish the watch but changing the spring in a G-shock, polishing the case, changing batteries and replacing straps and bracelets is all I know how to do. I made decent money at it until COVID-19 left half the country at home wondering how to make money before figuring out what I was doing and it became impossible to make enough money to keep doing it. It's definitely a "it takes money to make money" business.
all those precautions and no rubber or cloth covering on the table to prevent scratches? are you kidding me? other than that, it was as meticulous as surgery
This is the best video that I've found, really good camera work close up. I feel confident now working on my G-Shock. This person's a pro who's probably done dozens of these. Thank you for helping.

Unfortunately, I never found out where the screw that is responsible for adjusting the accuracy of the watch is located. I can't find a video showing it anywhere. The second point is that the display module in the watch is crooked, but the author of the video apparently did not pay attention to this and did not correct it when disassembling the watch. The unevenness can be seen in the frame where the month and date are displayed. The top side of the frame is crooked in relation to the watch frame, which is clearly visible from 10:02.
The display of my watches (5600) sometimes is dim, and not clearly, but when you push one of the buttons or knock the watches it will start to show properly, first i though that battery is low but it was not reasona, could you give me recommendations?
Having the same issues. If I use the backlight it straightens the display out for about a day. Not sure what's causing it. Going to change the battery and see if that helps.
On my first try I didn't seat the O ring back in properly. Water got in. Took it apart and let it dry for a few days. New battery. Bit more careful putting it back together. Seems fine now.
Is in your watch lcd contrast is worse looking straight on dial? In my dw5600 contrast is best in small angel when I am looking from the bottom, and from left. Sorry for my English, I do my best...
Wanted to change the battery for the first time. In my mind it would be pretty easy. Turn out I stuck at the unlock battery part. Found this video, the rest is no brainer.. 🙏 Thanks.
I don't know how it could be in your country, but here, in Russia, you don't have 100% guaranty, that mechanic do it before, so that's why the best- do it yourself )
My 5600 factory battery just died today. ELEVEN years on the factory battery. I’m trying to decide if I should just order another 5600 or risk a battery swap.
Nice and easy to follow. I did not have such nice and tiny tweezers. To unlock the batterie i used a needle and for the AC reset i used a piece of wire. Hopefully the water stays out 😬. Thanks for the video.
