It killed meto see the careless spilling of fuel twice, but other than that, loved this video! Shown everything clearly, even bonus extra bits. I will be doing this soon to my convertible, thank you!
Thank you for this video, about to do the same this Thursday after my 2014 428 xdrive had been driving like normal 90% of the time and every once in a while shudders and turns off while parked or just turned off while driving. The events became more frequent until finally the check engine light came on revealing codes pOO87 and pO171, lean bank and low fuel pressure. Hopefully this will fix the problem. Btw, for those experiencing the same problem, check if your bmw hasn't already had the fuel pump serviced via recall.
I see other videos where there are tubes to disconnect when taking out the old pump - presumably they go to filter??? YOUR VIDEO was a straight swap - plug and play. What am I missing? I have a 2009 328i X Drive I need help - pump arrives Wednesday. I dont wanna open her up and find an impossible situation. Wa sthere some step missing here? - I can really just pull the old pump straight out and swap?
THIS SEEMS TO GOOD TO BE TRUE. My 09 328i Xdrive either needs a pump or a new control module. Shop wants 1200 bucks. Thinking I may tow it home and take a chance myself. WHAT ARENT WE SEEING HERE THOUGH. What usually goes wrong or hives you trouble? or wa sthis video typical? I dont have a fuel pressure guage but noted you didnt have an issue anyway. DO I need to do anything to create pressure like prime or bleed anything? ANY TIPS? THANKS - definitely subbing here!
Hey man great video . So I own a 535i and my car starts up just fine but once in a while when I’m driving my car will just stop running and the fuel pump will pop up on the screen does that mean I need a new one ?
What were the symptoms? I have a bmw f10 520d. Drive train light came on car just died. Put diesel into it and tryed to bleed it from the rail but not getting diesel to the rail. So I don't no if its the pump or the module.?
Is the fuel pump and fuel filter comes in the same unit ? Or is it two different parts that goes in different locations like old cars ?? Please help !!
Great Video.... Im trying to do some research... I have a BMW 328i 2013 with a bad fuel pump.. This replacement looks fairly doable for homedriveway/garage attempt.. my question is on a 2013 model is there gonna be a computer reprograming necessary for the part to work with the digital odometer - digital gas gauges??? Please any feedback on this would be great!...thanks again for this post
Hello..this seems useful..I have a 2012 x5 and occasionally I can’t turn in my car for a few hours and no service light shows up in diagnostics..I tried changing the green fuel plug/fuse located in the rear of the vehicle..if I perform this replacement shouldnmy probleoms be fixed?!? No engine or better issues present. Thanks
Great video. I just spent 1575$ for this job. The shop told me it needed to be calibrated as well? Can you comment on that? BTW I watched this video because it’s currently leaking gas in the driveway and I wanted to figure out what they messed up on before I took it back in!
"Calibrated". 🤦🏼♂️ Garage scamming again. I need my fuel pump replaced, and some local AA approved garage quoted 1.5 hour work to do this job. How these people look at themselves in the mirror with a conscience like that is beyond me. 🤔
Hello I have a bmw f10 with N57D30A engine replaced two of the injectors as they were no good ,now I have a small problem ,the car vibrates a little on startup and shoes white smoke for 4-5 seconds ,when I hooked up the scanner I get the error message" rail pressure low on engine start " any ideas ? The injectors are all good as they were tested ,could it be hpfp or fuel pump ..?
My BMW 5 series needs a fuel pump. Bought 1 but when replacing the pins on the new pump won't stay on n keeps coming off. The parts are completely useless
No that was not necessary in my case because the fuel pump was not generating any pressure. If you are concerned about pressure in the line you can disconnect the electrical connection to the pump, then start the car. This will use up the remaining fuel pressure in the line.
Hi mate I think I've got the same problem on a X6 it seems to be running on 5 cylinders sometimes is that the beginning of the problem normally when it's warmed up when it's cold it's fine could you let me know please James
Common issue with the BMW i6 motors is a leaking intake manifold gasket. Can do a smoke test on a cold engine to comfirm. Change the intake manifold gasket and install all new pcv components while u have the manifold off.
If you want to reduce pressure in the line you can disconnect the electrical connection to the pump, then start the engine and let it run until it dies. I dont think I bled the pressure because the pump was not working so there was no pressure to bleed.
@@LehewTech my car hesitate during acceleration , car shakes then its smooths out and runs just fine . I am thinking its the fuel pump.. i have changed spark plugs and ignition coil , but the problem is still there.. No codes when i did the OBD II scanning .also one more question is the fuel filter and fuel pump comes as one unit ??
@@moneyfilters8706 yes, the fuel pump and filter are one unit. Before changing the pump it may be a good idea to use a scan tool to check the fuel trims while the car is hesitating. If the fuel trims indicate a lean condition then the fuel pump very well could be the culprit, although a dirty or malfunctioning mass air flow sensor could cause this issue as well. You can also get a fuel pressure gauge and attach it to the shraeder valve at the fuel rail to see if the pressure is within spec.
on my e46 fuel gauge works wrong there is two level sensors how do i know which one is bad? also every time i reset my instrument cluster it shows different fuel level. i have tested cluster seems no problem.
Do you have a scan tool that can display the values? If not you will need a voltmeter. Sometimes I remove the level sensor( if it's easy to access) and measure the resistance as I move the float throughout it's range of motion. You can compare the resistance values measured to a new part or known acceptable values.
Good luck man. I've owned a few cars with inaccurate fuel gauges and it's caused me to not rely on the gauge. I instead reset my trip odometer every time I top off the tank and once I hit 150 miles on the trip I'm back to the pumps.
Instructional videos in what not to do never use a screwdriver always use a non-ferrous metal so you don't create a spark also using power tools there is a spark inside those cordless drills that will send you to the hospital quicker than you can say ... oh shit I'm on fire.. and never do any fuel work inside a building like your garage..( burn down a car okay) (burn down your parents house not okay). 52 year old veteran. Have a safe day
No, any fuel pump located inside the gas tank is a low pressure fuel pump. High pressure fuel pumps are mechanically driven by the engine and are found in the engine compartment. Most HPFPs are bolted to the head and driven by a camshaft.
mouse severed wires to my 2006 bmw x5 3.0i E53 fuel level sending unit wiring connector. I cant re-attach. 1) where can i find part number to this connector 2) where might i get one 3) where is its fuse i cant find it? thanks all!
+Joe Meschke This particular car in the video only has one fuel pump which can be described as a LPFP. Typically, LFFPs are located in the tank while HPFP are located in the engine compartment and are mechanically driven by the engine in some way (most commonly by the camshaft).
A good whack is the best way to remove these things on all vehicles set up this way a good whack is the best plan for anything really it would probably solve the fake global warming problem going on these days as well ..... that or duct tape but a hammer is the tool involved best to suit any job
Let me guess.. youre upset I didnt call the tool truck and have the customer wait while I special order the fuel pump collar tool and use a torque wrench when installing it. The reality is that this crappy aftermarket fuel pump will fail long before any other problems arise from my back alley installation.
@@LehewTech Your the one that is trying to salvage yourself after being set out as a "Alley Grease Monkey". Those tool should be in a tool box since side cutters are a everyday tool for removing those type of clamps. Grease Monkeys like you have favorite tools like Vise Grips, Hammers and Duct taps. Lets not forget the bailing wire. How many time have you went to the owners and told them "they needed something else" after you started a job? I bet it's 85% of the times. Anybody that said "they have learned from this video" have learned the wrong way to do it. So keep on trying to fix cars out of your little tackle box. Someday "not real soon" you will connive somebody to give you some half ass tool better than what you have now. oh yeah a knife is not a screw driver to be used on electrical connections. At least you know your work will not pass the of a OME part and thats why you install jap parts on German cars.
My BMW 330i having the same symptoms ordered the part comes tomorrow I don't have a gas pressure gauge to check to see if it's the problem but I'm sure it's this
