1) I used to own a 2006 GXL TD Auto 100 series with a 1HDFTE along with a 2006 79 with a 1HZ. Both purchased new. I liked both vehicles and engines. One towny and one worky. They were serviced by Toyota every 10k and by me every 5000km. Never burnt any oil and never broke down. Both were sold at 190k. Today my V8 burns oil and makes the sump oil black very quickly. My 2 old Toyota's referred to above always had golden oil. It's not that I mind buying the oil - It's the fact that Toyota diesels are not supposed to burn oil. We've had diesel cruisers in the family since the 70's and they never used oil. These new V8's burn oil, the filter is hard to get to and the starter motor needs replacing all the time because they don't like dust, mud and water. 2) Hey, one technique I use all the time to take off oil filters is a rag and a steel bar/screwdriver. It's simple as. Just wrap the rag around the filter and put in the screw driver and twist. Proceed as nature intended. Easy. 3) People say Go well Go Shell but I say Go First Class or Stay at Home.

Getting the sump off? A handful of 1200 mm long hard wood 1" x 1" garden stakes (sharpened to a nice chisel point) can help. Let's you swing a decent hammer at a distance from the sump.

Hi there I have a question I have A 94 1FZFE engine engine have a small knock Which sounded like it was coming from the lower end just checked all the rod bearings and they all look good wondering if wondering if there was something else I could be checking.

Got to say I'm pretty shocked with the condition of that last bearing. I wouldn't think that you would get a failure like that within 300,000km of a rebuild let alone sub 100,000km. Surely that has to be some sort of bearing manufacturer issue as Toyota would of had a warranty for longer than 100,000km surely. Would a race bearing like ACL be the best option?? Do you know the origin of the bearings that were pulled out??

Did you guys replace the cap bolts? Or decided to run them again?

So I would have thought that if a bearing has delaminated the crank would be damaged in some way or other??

Great video! I just picked me up a grandpa spec HDJ80R with 342K KMs. Short motor was installed by Toyota at 243K kms due to bearing failure so looking like this is the next job coming up! Did they only replace the bearing caps or bearings as well?

Can the main bearing cap bolts be reused??? Toyota say they aren't reusable and should be replaced but they aren't stretch bolts so can't figure why you'd need to change them....

Sorry mate ,a rookie question. is this same engine as the 1hz ? My 1hz makes a tapping noise while accelerating at high rmp. Could it be the same problem?

Oil type and spec seems to be the issue and cause. Our Oz oil is the cause the info says.

Its not common at all its false information that carried on because a few 91 models had dodgy big ends in them from factory they can be replaced with good aftermarket big ends and later model 1hdts had a new version of big ends put in them
